Awards season has crept up once again, ushered in on Sunday evening by the 2025 Governors Awards in Los Angeles, where industry titans Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise, Wynn Thomas and Dolly Parton were honoured for their contributions to cinema.
This year’s red carpet unfolded as a study in understated drama. Dakota Johnson was ethereal in a mint-green strapless Valentino gown, her signature long hair cascading softly over her shoulders.
Elle Fanning swanned in like modern-day royalty, shimmering in blush-pink sequins, while Natalie Portman dazzled in a Dior mini intricately embellished with thousands of minute beads, giving the illusion of a meadow in bloom.
Ariana Grande embraced a touch of soft, knowing method dressing, slipping into Glinda pink via an asymmetrical Fall 2007 Dior gown. At her side, Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo delivered one of the night’s most arresting looks: an impressionistic pistachio Givenchy coat by Sarah Burton, complete with cascading fringe and painterly floral embroidery.
They weren’t the only on-screen duo to turn heads either. One Battle After Another stars Chase Infiniti and Teyana Taylor swept in wearing plumes of tulle and glittering sequins, delivering pure red-carpet spectacle.
Below, discover the standout looks from the 2025 Governors Awards, a refined, quietly daring preview of the season to come.
