The New Year may be behind us, but the urge to reset remains strong. With fresh collections and cultural moments beginning to roll in, January always carries a quiet sense of anticipation.

In the weeks ahead, Melbourne will play host to the Australian Open, bringing with it a wave of tennis-inspired fashion, while global Houses and heritage brands begin to set the tone for the year.

Luxury labels are revisiting their archives, contemporary names are pushing creative boundaries, and the result is a landscape that feels equal parts nostalgic and forward-facing.

From Chanel Beauty’s moody Rouge Noir revival to Fendi’s playful reimagining of the Peekaboo and Van Cleef & Arpels’ cultural collaborations, the month is delivering heritage, innovation and artistry in equal measure.

From retail to the runway, these are the must-know launches shaping January.

Chanel Revives Rouge Noir With A New Makeup Collection

Chanel Beauty revisits one of its most iconic shades with the launch of the Rouge Noir Makeup Collection, created by Ammy Drammeh of Chanel’s Comètes Collective. Rich, sultry and unmistakably Chanel, the collection moves beyond the nail polish that made the shade famous, spanning eyes, lips and cheeks in a palette of deep garnet, magenta, purplish pink and rich brown tones.

Rouge Noir’s origin story is pure fashion folklore. The shade was conceived overnight on the eve of the Autumn-Winter 1994/95 runway show by Dominique Moncourtois, Heidi Morawetz and Karl Lagerfeld, inspired by the dark lining of the house’s iconic 2.55 handbag. What emerged was a near-black red that felt radical at the time, redefining what “classic” beauty could look like.

Launched as a nail colour in 1995, Rouge Noir was initially dismissed as a passing trend. Three decades on, its return proves otherwise. The Rouge Noir Makeup Collection is available now at Chanel.com.

A Peek Inside Fendi’s Most Playful Bag Yet

FENDI is giving its iconic Peekaboo bag a playful new twist for Spring/Summer 2026, and it all began on the Milan runway in September, where models carried their bags slightly ajar, letting colour, sparkle and surprise spill out.

Designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi and first launched in 2008, the Peekaboo has always been about hidden beauty, a wink wrapped in leather. This season, the secret is proudly on display. Clean, minimal exteriors open to reveal jewel-like interiors adorned with paillettes, beads, studs and crystals, all handcrafted by FENDI’s artisans.

From shimmering sequins and floral mosaics to crystal motifs and a pink mink version requiring over 200 hours of work, each bag feels like a small reveal party. The collection is available for pre-order now and lands in boutiques on February 5.

Van Cleef & Arpels Brings Dance Reflections To Sydney Festival

Van Cleef & Arpels’ Dance Reflections program is deepening its commitment to Australia this January with a new collaboration at the Sydney Festival. Following its support of DanceX with The Australian Ballet in 2025, the initiative will present two acclaimed international works: Alessandro Sciarroni’s Save the Last Dance for Me and Eun-Me Ahn’s Post-Orientalist Express.

Sciarroni’s piece revives the near-forgotten Italian folk dance polka chinata, while Ahn delivers a vibrant, high-energy exploration of contemporary Asian identity. Performed across venues including Sydney Town Hall and the Roslyn Packer Theatre, the works bring global choreographic voices to Australian stages as part of the Festival’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Charlee Fraser Reflects On Presence, Purpose, And Time Well Spent https://www.marieclaire.com.au/fashion/accessories/charlee-fraser-omega/ Thu, 08 Jan 2026 00:14:47 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1502104 Holding time

The post Charlee Fraser Reflects On Presence, Purpose, And Time Well Spent appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Charlee Fraser is sitting somewhere in Queensland, cicadas humming loudly enough to puncture the quiet, when she starts talking about time. Not time as a deadline or a schedule or a thing to be outrun – but as something more fluid. Something, as she puts it, that can be “an indicator, rather than a dictator.”

Given she now calls LA home, Fraser is technically on holiday. There is a lagoon in front of her – she mentions it in passing, aware of how idyllic it sounds. She speaks slowly, deliberately, choosing her words with care. It becomes clear, within minutes, that this is not someone interested in racing through life. She has already done that.

A proud Awabakal woman, Fraser was born in Newcastle, on the coast of New South Wales. She grew up climbing trees, riding motorbikes, skating with a single rollerblade, and making potions from flowers, rocks and dirt in the backyard. Her parents were always collecting animals – cats, dogs, goats, sheep, even a peacock at one point – and nature was never a weekend escape, but a constant presence. “We were just always outside,” she says. “With the animals. With the land.”

At 18, she was scouted and thrown into a fashion industry she knew almost nothing about. She joined IMG, rose quickly through the Australian ranks, then experienced a breakout international season at Fall/Winter 2016 that would change everything. Her star-is-born moment came just before Alexander Wang’s New York Fashion Week show, when legendary hairstylist Guido Palau cut her long hair into a sharp bob. American Vogue dubbed her “the new face to know” almost immediately. That season, she walked more than 40 shows – Prada, Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Céline – becoming the first Indigenous Australian model to work consistently with the world’s most powerful fashion houses.

For a while, the pace was relentless. The shows. The flights. The expectations. Fraser talks about her early twenties as a time when she was perpetually running – late, breathless, overstimulated. “I always felt like I was running out of time,” she says. “There was never enough of it. I had lists for everything. I was chasing something we’d created.”

Then came a shift. In her late twenties – a period she links instinctively to her Saturn return – Fraser began what she describes as an inner journey. COVID, she says, accelerated everything. “The last five years have been completely transformative. I’m still me – but I know myself now.” That self-knowledge fundamentally changed her relationship with time. “Time doesn’t exist to me in the way we’ve made it,” she says. “My life exists. So where I put my time is where I’m placing my life.”

It’s a philosophy that now informs everything – from the projects she accepts to the rituals that anchor her days. Fraser meditates, journals, moves her body daily. She eats at least one meal a day in complete silence – no phone, no book, no distraction. “Just sitting. Just eating,” she says. “It’s so grounding.”

She journals obsessively. There’s a dream journal. A feelings journal. A daily record of what she’s done and how she felt. She has notebooks dating back to high school, filled with fragments: crushes, anger, half-formed thoughts. “It’s like a scrapbook of my life,” she says. Stillness, for Fraser, is not emptiness. It’s where creativity lives. “When the thinking part of your brain is busy – washing dishes, driving – your subconscious comes through,” she explains. “That’s where the magic is.”

This attentiveness to the inner world has reshaped her work, too. After more than a decade in fashion, Fraser turned her focus toward acting. In 2023, she landed roles in two major films: Warner Bros.’ Furiosa and Sony’s romantic comedy Anyone But You. For Furiosa, she trained relentlessly – combat, riding, physical conditioning, acting – throwing herself into preparation with characteristic intensity. “If I’m in, I’m 110 per cent in,” she says. “I love being challenged. I love learning new skills.”

She doesn’t romanticise the process. “I didn’t pace myself,” she admits. “I just threw myself into it.” But she also recognises that modelling had prepared her for this moment: the vulnerability of being watched, the ability to take direction, the stamina required to move constantly, the discipline of showing up. “I came into acting with lived experience,” she says. “That’s a privilege.”
Her latest project, Stake Out, sees Fraser starring alongside Brenton Thwaites and Danny Huston in a taut, psychological horror-thriller.

As she’s grown older, Fraser has become more selective. There was a deliberate “yes year” in her early twenties – a personal experiment in saying yes to everything. Then came a phase of almost total refusal. Now, she’s found equilibrium. “If it’s not a fuck yes, it’s a no,” she says, plainly. “Your time and your energy are resources.”

That discernment extends beyond work. Fraser describes herself as introverted, though not rigidly so. She can be magnetic and social – but it takes intention. Solitude, she says, is where she resets. “I’m very independent. I’m used to being alone. I love my solo escapes.”

Her relationship with time has recently taken on a new, tangible form. As an ambassador for Omega, Fraser wears a watch daily – something she never imagined she would do. Specifically, an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 30mm. “The last time I can remember wearing a watch was around the age of four when my grandparents began teaching me about ‘time’,” she says. “At that age, I felt confused and imprisoned by the concept. Avoidant, uninterested, and unnecessary. Why did I need to know how to ‘tell time’? My adolescence was meant for creativity, adventure, and learning.”

Now, she says, the feeling is entirely different. “With everything that has evolved in the world since – technology and social media specifically – putting on a watch now after all these years feels like freedom. Without having to look at a screen or spot a digital clock, a mere peak at my Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 30mm to mark the day has returned much more of my youth and presence than I ever deeply considered over wearing a timepiece.”

She pauses, then adds: “I’m far less distracted, more accomplished, and feel a sense of reclamation. There’s more space for mindfulness, imagination, invention and venture. I feel a step closer to nature and connection – not just with the world, but people too.”

It’s a striking inversion: a watch, long associated with pressure and productivity, becoming a tool for presence. “From someone who’s always felt ‘out of time’,” she says, “to someone who now has ‘nothing but time’.”

The future isn’t something she’s trying to outrun. There are films coming. A video game. Creative experiments she can’t yet name. But more than anything, she’s interested in spending time well – with people who value her, in work that feels aligned, in moments that allow her to feel deeply. “Even crying,” she says. “I love crying. It means I care.” Time, after all, is no longer something she’s chasing. “Time is my life,” she says again. “So what I’m excited to spend my life doing is becoming clearer.”

Odessa A’zion Is Hollywood’s Most Compelling New It-Girl https://www.marieclaire.com.au/fashion/red-carpet/odessa-azion-fashion-outfits/ Wed, 07 Jan 2026 05:38:24 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1501910 A rising star

The post Odessa A’zion Is Hollywood’s Most Compelling New It-Girl appeared first on marie claire.

]]>

With a growing list of screen credits and a rapidly rising profile, Odessa A’zion is fast establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s most compelling young talents. At just 25, the actor has already delivered notable performances in Marty Supreme and I Love LA, earning attention for her grounded, contemporary presence on screen.

A’zion’s career has been steadily building for several years, with earlier roles in series including Fam and Ghosts, as well as film appearances such as Am I Okay? opposite Dakota Johnson.

Raised in a creative household as the daughter of actor Pamela Adlon and producer Felix O. Adlon, she has been immersed in the industry from a young age, developing a clear sense of confidence and presence. A brief cameo in the Jaden Smith dating canon in 2017 also introduced her to public curiosity, well before her career gained momentum.

Alongside her growing body of work, A’zion is also gaining recognition for her considered approach to fashion. Rather than relying solely on established designers, she has shown a willingness to take an active role in shaping her red-carpet image. A penchant for black and oversized tailoring, paired with her now-famous curls (which have their own discourse), has quickly become her signature.

At the New York premiere of Marty Supreme in December, A’zion wore a custom 1920s-inspired black gown that she co-designed with L’Atelier 7474 and Maison Privée in Los Angeles. The look was one of the most talked-about of the evening, reinforcing her view of fashion as an extension of personal expression.

As her career continues to gain momentum, A’zion is proving to be a talent worth watching, both for her performances and her growing presence on the red carpet circuit.

Below, we take a closer look at Odessa A’zion’s most memorable looks to date.

Can Alabama Barker Spark A Pucci Renaissance? https://www.marieclaire.com.au/fashion/fashion-news/alabama-barker-nasty-pucci-outfit/ Tue, 06 Jan 2026 06:44:27 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1501816 Fashion’s most flamboyant house

The post Can Alabama Barker Spark A Pucci Renaissance? appeared first on marie claire.

Do you know what’s nasty? Feathered Saint Laurent heels with a Pucci outfit. At least, that is the verdict delivered by 20-year-old Alabama Barker, daughter of Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and stepdaughter of Kourtney Kardashian.

Pop-punk by lineage and Kardashian by marriage, she occupies a cultural position where luxury is less aspiration than inheritance.

Over Christmas, Barker uploaded a nine-minute haul video that unfolded as a study in insouciant excess. A Birkin from Kourtney, reportedly worth more than $30,000. A Balenciaga City bag from Kendall Jenner, just under $5,000. Fuzzy Hermès slides from matriarch Kris. Enough Chrome Hearts and Cartier to to rival a boutique counter.

Internet accountants quickly crunched the numbers for the entire haul and arrived somewhere north of $300,000.

@alabamabarker

Yes I’m out of breath always, yes my ear is split lol anyways enjoy I love you guys down ! 💗🙈 #fyp #haul #xmas

♬ original sound – Alabama barker

The gifts were classified as either “nasty” or “tea”, which is the kind of compressed language only youth can sustain. But the moment that travelled was not the gifts themselves. It was the reference. Unboxing a pair of Saint Laurent heels, Barker remarked, “Nasty. With a Pucci outfit? Nasty,” and moved on to unboxing her next gift.

By the next morning, her comment section had become a forum for genuine inquiry. Comments included “What is poochie?” and “I don’t get it, what is a Pucci outfit?” Somewhere in Florence, an archivist quietly wept.

Those with even a passing familiarity with the house quickly joined in, posting their own videos, holding up everything from jelly slides and sneakers to their own feathered heels and declaring that yes, these too would be nasty with a Pucci outfit.

For the uninitiated: Emilio Pucci, an Italian aristocrat, founded his namesake house in 1947. It became synonymous with kaleidoscopic prints in the 1960s and 70s, worn by women who moved effortlessly between yachts, villas and cocktail hours. Pucci was expressive, confident, and unmistakable. It was colour with conviction.

Its cultural high point predates TikTok. Marilyn Monroe wore it off-duty. Jackie Kennedy wore it on Capri. Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor wore it as second skin. Crepe caftans, jersey sets and chiffon sheaths in electric hues became signatures of a jet-set glamour that felt both relaxed and, dare it be said, nasty.

By the early 2000s, Pucci had found a new audience. Lindsay Lohan in a mini dress. Jennifer Lopez treating Pucci less as a label and more as a lifestyle commitment. The house slipped in and out of fashion’s focus, as heritage brands often do.

More recently, it re-emerged on Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid and Sofia Richie Grainge, a brief, colourful interruption to quiet luxury’s ongoing reign.

Which brings us back to Alabama Barker, our unlikely oracle. In 2026, Pucci is not about nostalgia or novelty. It is about self-awareness, theatrical confidence, and a clear-eyed understanding of what might be nasty.

Every January, the Australian Open tennis takes over our TV screens, office watercooler conversations and, most notably, our fashion choices.

The Australian Open’s Grand Slam tournament—which is one of four held across the year including Wimbledon, The French and The US Open—sees the world’s best tennis stars compete down under.

It’s not just die-hard fans that descend on Melbourne Park, with the sporting event attracting both the celeb and style set to its sought-after seats. In 2022, a lucky few spectators even caught a glimpse of our boyfriend, Paul Mescal.

Akin to the Formula One or Spring Racing Carnival, the Australian Open has become an event in of itself, with an array of restaurants and VIP marquees set up on site.

What Is The Dress Code For The Australian Open?

As is with any special event, the Australian Open tennis requires a special outfit, and even comes with a particular dress code: No thongs, ripped jeans, sports shorts or singlets are permitted.

Then, there’s the matter of bag restrictions as dictated by both Rod Laver Arena and the Australian Open—these will dramatically influence your accessory of choice. For spectators, handbags must be able to fit under your seat, or only be as big as an A4 piece of paper.

What To Wear To The Australian Open Tennis

Sport-luxe is a given when deciding what to don as a spectator and bonus points are always given to those who keep within the tennis theme.

There’s also the matter of the weather and climate to factor in when deciding what to wear to the sporting event, particularly given it’s mid-summer.

Think: bright whites, workout sets, tennis skirts and dresses, white sneakers, tank tops and hats. Crisp cottons, lightweight linens and loose-fitting, flowy styles are also on point.

Whether you’re heading to Wimbledon, the Australian Open or another glamorous tennis event, scroll on for the best tennis-inspired pieces to shop right now.

Which luxury bag is worth buying in Australia?

The best luxury and designer bags are ones you can use for years because they work with different fashion trends and occasions. Ideally, any bag you buy should add value through its design, with both practical and aesthetic features that suit your style.
So when you’re looking for the perfect bag, there’s a lot to consider. What size do you want? How about the function? Is it a day bag or a night bag? These questions are important, as they will form the basis of your bag quest.
Of course, opting for something made locally is always best, but check the materials to ensure you’re getting something sturdy that will stand the test of time.
Finally, it’s all about choosing the right brand. While international designers like Coach, Kate Spade and Prada are popular choices, sometimes it’s worth a look for a band closer to home here in Australia. If anything, they’ll ship to your house faster than the rest!

The awards season calendar officially opens tonight with the 2026 Critics Choice Awards at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. Now in its 31st year, the ceremony once again sees Chelsea Handler return as host, marking her fourth turn at the helm.

On the film front, Sinners leads the nominations, followed closely by One Battle After Another, Hamnet, Frankenstein and Marty Supreme, bringing stars like Timothée Chalamet, Jacob Elordi and Leonardo DiCaprio firmly into focus.

The acting categories are equally stacked. Amanda Seyfried and Jessie Buckley face off in Best Actress contention for The Testament of Ann Lee and Bugonia, while Elle Fanning and Ariana Grande compete in the supporting category for Sentimental Value and Wicked: For Good.

Before the critics weigh in, however, the red carpet sets the tone. Hollywood’s A-list arrive dressed to impress, offering an early glimpse at the silhouettes and moods poised to define awards season style.

Ahead, our favourite looks from the 2026 Critics Choice Awards red carpet.

Jonathan Anderson Imbues A Whimsical Spirit Into Dior’s Spring–Summer 2026 Bags https://www.marieclaire.com.au/fashion/accessories/dior-ss26-bags-jonathan-anderson/ Fri, 02 Jan 2026 01:30:00 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1501107 Dior ties it all together

As Dior looks towards Spring–Summer 2026, two accessories emerge as defining gestures within Jonathan Anderson’s first season at the House: the introduction of the Dior Bow bag and a considered, playful reimagining of the Lady Dior.

Together, they offer an early indication of how Anderson is approaching the brand’s heritage, with an emphasis on lightness, symbolism and ease.

The Dior Bow bag first appeared alongside Anderson’s Spring–Summer 2026 ready-to-wear collection, where its sculptural form drew attention for its restraint. Shaped as a bow, one of Dior’s most familiar motifs, the design feels gently expressive rather than declarative.

Crafted in grained leather, its clean lines and softly structured silhouette give it a natural versatility that suits everyday wear.

Practical details are integrated with discretion. An invisible closure preserves the clarity of the design, while a removable chain strap, threaded with metal links and subtle bow accents, allows the bag to move easily between shoulder and hand.

The Dior Bow bag is offered in small and medium sizes and appears in smooth, metallic and crinkled leathers, as well as embroidered versions featuring Buttercup Garden and Dior Clover motifs.

The colour palette ranges from classic black to softer, more optimistic shades such as dreamy pink, tourmaline, buttercup yellow, hermitage and latte white, each finished with the familiar Dior logo.

The Lady Dior also returns this season with a renewed sense of charm. Rather than altering its structure, Anderson focuses on surface and detail, treating the bag as an object of personal meaning as much as one of status.

The Mini Lady Dior Clover is embroidered with four-leaf clovers and finished with a small red ladybug, available in green, black and rose soupir.

The Mini Lady Dior Buttercup is scattered with three-dimensional buttercups in vibrant yellow and accompanied by a tiny bee, one of the House’s enduring symbols. Signature “D, I, O, R” charms complete both designs.

Together, the Dior Bow bag and the latest Lady Dior styles feel thoughtful yet whimsical, balancing craftsmanship with a sense of warmth. Both collections will arrive in Dior boutiques worldwide from January 2026.

There are few symbols in luxury that carry the weight and recognition of Louis Vuitton’s Monogram canvas. For 130 years, those interlaced LV initials and delicate floral medallions have graced the arms of style icons, travelled the world in the hands of discerning jet-setters, and remained an unwavering emblem of French craftsmanship. Now, as we step into 2026, the legendary House is marking this momentous milestone with a year-long celebration that promises to redefine how we see this timeless motif.

In 1896, Georges Vuitton created the Monogram canvas as both tribute and strategic innovation. Honouring his father Louis – the founder who transformed travel with revolutionary trunk designs – Georges designed an intricate pattern of interlaced LV initials and floral medallions that served a critical business purpose: protecting the House’s authenticity against rampant counterfeiting. Drawing from Neo-Gothic ornamentation and the era’s fascination with Japonism, he registered a patent for what would become far more than anti-counterfeiting protection – a defining signature that embodied Louis Vuitton’s philosophy of excellence and modernity.

Louis Vuitton has chosen to honour 130 years of the Monogram through bold reinterpretation that speaks directly to today’s luxury landscape, proving that true heritage lies not in preservation alone, but in fearless evolution.

The New Monogram Anniversary Collection

The Monogram Anniversary Collection unveils three distinct expressions of the iconic pattern, each telling its own story of innovation and craftsmanship. The Monogram Origine Collection is perhaps the most emotionally resonant, revisiting the very first 1896 pattern through an entirely new lens. The traditional jacquard weave has been reimagined using a linen and cotton blend, rendered in soft pastel hues that feel both fresh and timeless. The inspiration? An archival client register cover discovered in the House’s extensive archives – a beautiful reminder that luxury is often found in the most unexpected places.

For those who appreciate the poetry of leather, the VVN Collection celebrates Louis Vuitton’s unparalleled leather goods legacy. Crafted from the finest natural cowhide, each piece is designed to develop a unique patina over time – a living testament to the wearer’s journey. There’s something deeply romantic about owning a piece that evolves with you, becoming more beautiful with each adventure.

Perhaps the most avant-garde of the three, the Time Trunk Collection employs sophisticated trompe-l’oeil printing to recreate the textures and metallic details of Louis Vuitton’s historic trunks. It’s heritage transformed into artful illusion – a perfect metaphor for how the House continues to bridge past and present with remarkable ingenuity.

The celebration also honours the Monogram’s most beloved silhouettes: the Speedy (1930), which redefined personal mobility; the Keepall (1930), forever symbolising freedom and effortless travel; the Noé (1932), originally designed to carry champagne bottles and still celebrating life’s joyful moments; the Alma (1992), with its architectural elegance inspired by Parisian sophistication; and the Neverfull (2007), the modern woman’s essential companion.

Each of these bags tells a story not just of design evolution, but of how women’s lives have changed over nearly a century. From the jazz-age flapper needing a chic travel companion to today’s multitasking professional requiring both style and functionality, Louis Vuitton has consistently anticipated and answered these needs.

Under the creative direction of talents like Nicolas Ghesquière for women’s collections and Pharrell Williams for men’s, the House demonstrates how heritage can evolve alongside contemporary design.

Meanwhile, collaborations with artists like Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama, and Richard Prince have shown that the Monogram canvas can be a playground for artistic expression while maintaining its essential DNA. It’s this balance between respect for tradition and openness to interpretation that keeps Louis Vuitton relevant in an ever-changing luxury landscape.

The Monogram’s 130th year underscores how the House continues to evolve a historic design for a contemporary audience, positioning heritage not as something static, but as something that can be reinterpreted and renewed.

These Are The Trends Predicted To Take Over In 2026 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/fashion/fashion-news/pinterest-predicts-biggest-trends-2026/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 05:11:40 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1501217 Pin it: 2026’s trends are here

There is comfort in knowing some pieces will never fall out of favour, but trends are what give fashion its pulse. In recent years, that pulse has been racing. Micro trends surface, peak and disappear at a pace that can make even the most fashion-literate feel one step behind.

Cue Pinterest Predicts. The platform’s annual trend forecast draws on the search behaviour of millions of users to spotlight what is gaining real momentum. Rather than chasing fleeting aesthetics, it captures collective curiosity and has become one of the most reliable indicators of where fashion and beauty are heading next.

Looking ahead to 2026, the mood is unmistakably nostalgic, with escapism woven throughout. Fashion and beauty continue to reach for familiarity, comfort and fantasy, with accessories emerging as the quiet power players that define a look.

With 21 predictions covering everything from fashion to homeware and leisure, the report offers a wide view of what is coming next.

Below, we have narrowed it down to the 10 fashion and beauty trends set to have the biggest impact on your wardrobe and beauty routine for the year ahead.

Glamoratti

Minimalism and ‘quiet luxury’ are taking a back seat in 2026. A distinctly ’80s brand of maximalism is stepping back into the spotlight, with bold proportions and unapologetic glamour leading the charge. Pinterest searches for “80s luxury”, “high collar jacket” and “baggy suit” are climbing fast, signalling a shift toward bolder dressing among Gen Z and Millennials.

Expect exaggerated shoulders, saturated jewel tones and statement gold jewellery that feels intentionally indulgent.

Poetcore

Interest in the poet aesthetic continues to climb, tapping into a romanticised vision of creativity, intellect and old-world charm.

The look is anchored in scholarly staples with a soft edgethink chunky knits, timeworn blazers, slouchy satchels, aged leather and the occasional cape or tie worn with intention rather than formality.

Brooched

Pinterest predicts 2026

Brooches have reasserted themselves as one of fashion’s most versatile accessories. Sidestepping predictable choices, they offer a considered way to introduce character and distinction into an outfit. As the appetite for expressive accessorising grows, from personalised embellishments to vintage-leaning details, the return of the brooch feels both natural and timely.

While a delve into a mother’s or grandmother’s jewellery box may reveal a forgotten heirloom, a new generation of thoughtfully designed brooches is also arriving, offering modern interpretations with enduring appeal.

Laced Up

Lace has long occupied a place within fashion’s visual language, but its current revival feels more deliberate than nostalgic. Once synonymous with bohemian dressing in the 2010s, it has re-entered the discourse through a more considered, luxury lens, resurfacing in recent collections from houses such as Chloé, Chanel and Alexander McQueen.

After lacy tights marked the first phase of its return this year, the trend expands in 2026 with a broader, more expressive application. Lace moves beyond hosiery into collars, bandanas and belts, drawing inspiration from doilies and heirloom embroidery.

The influence moves seamlessly into beauty, where intricate nail art and softly detailed makeup mirror the same ornamental sensibility.

Vamp Romantic

With renewed interest in gothic cinema in 2025, from Jenna Ortega’s emergence as Gen Z’s resident goth girl in Wednesday season two to forthcoming adaptations of Wuthering Heights and Dracula, it comes as little surprise that gothic beauty is set to resurface in 2026.

The aesthetic leans dark and romantic rather than overtly theatrical, defined by inky pouts, softly smudged eyes and nails lacquered in shades of black and oxblood. It is vampy, expressive and unmistakably cinematic.

Cool Blue

Pinterest predicts 2026

Cherry red defined 2025. For 2026, Pinterest predicts cool blue will emerge as one of fashion’s most influential shades, cutting across ready-to-wear, accessories and beauty. The icy palette feels deliberately aloof, appearing in sharply tailored coats, glacial jewellery and frost-toned finishing touches.

It resonates strongly with Gen Z and Millennials, offering a modern alternative to traditional neutrals. From frosted makeup to ice-blue bridal looks, the subzero hue is less about novelty and more about mood, delivering a cool, composed aesthetic poised to shape the year ahead.

Glitchy Glam

Pinterest predicts 2026

“Glitchy Glam” is embracing imperfection with intention. This is beauty that plays with contrast and disruption, from mismatched manicures and two-toned lips to layered eye looks built from clashing shades.

Pinterest data points to a growing appetite for eccentric and avant-garde makeup, alongside asymmetric cuts and deliberately off-kilter styling. The result is a look that feels expressive, experimental and unconcerned with polish, celebrating individuality through beauty that is a little strange, a little playful and entirely deliberate.

Khaki Coded

Pinterest predicts 2026
Image: Courtesy of Pinterest

“Khaki Coded” taps into fashion’s growing fascination with lifestyle dressing, with wanderlust and the palaeontologist emerging as unlikely style muses. For Gen Z and Millennials, khaki becomes a mood rather than a single shade, shaping utilitarian wardrobes that feel adventurous yet considered.

Think Bermuda shorts, pocketed vests, utility jackets, pleated trousers and brown linen shirts that suggest exploration while remaining quietly refined.

Opera Aesthetic

Pinterest predicts 2026
Image: Courtesy of Pinterest

From sumptuous drapery and opulent jewellery to lavish, dressed-up occasions inspired by vintage balls, fashion is embracing a more extravagant mood.

Pinterest searches reflect this appetite for spectacle, with “midnight masquerade” up by 95% and “opera outfits” up by 55%. The return of millinery only amplifies the effect, proving that the desire to dress up, properly, is far from over.

Wilderkind

Pinterest predicts 2026
Image: Courtesy of Pinterest

Wilderkind reimagines animal influence through a softer, more romantic lens. Rather than bold leopard or zebra prints, the mood shifts toward an enchanted forest sensibility, where nature feels whimsical rather than overt.

Fawn markings replace traditional animal prints, while dragonfly nails, bug-like jewellery and fox-inspired silhouettes lend a sense of quiet fantasy. Pinterest searches reflect growing interest in insect motifs and animal-inspired dressing, resulting in looks that feel expressive and playful.

Van Cleef & Arpels Celebrates The Weird And Wonderful World Of Dance https://www.marieclaire.com.au/fashion/vca-dance/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 04:14:26 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1501152 A storied, high-jewellery house like VC&A doesn’t seem like a natural fit for a festival about the weird and wonderful world of experimental dance. So, we travel to South Korea to discover why it makes perfect sense after all

Imagine 1900 Bologna, Italy. In the town square, two young men join hands and walk into the centre of the circle that is forming around them. They turn to face each other, place a hand on the other’s waist, and wait in silent closed position.

Somewhere behind the gathered crowd, a guitar is plucked, an accordion bends, and the music begins. The men start what looks like a ballroom dance, their footsteps so swift and intertwined it’s a wonder they don’t trip each other over.

They move in circles within the larger circle, like a human spirograph. At once, they begin to crouch, knees interlocked and spinning faster and faster, propelled by the force of their partner; centripetal motion.

Slowly they rise: one raises an arm for the other to spin under, then they switch. And so the dance begins again. This is a courtship dance, but these men aren’t courting each other. They’re showing off.

At the Dance Reflections festival in Seoul, Ola Maciejewska’s work Loïe Fuller: Research reinterprets the renowned Serpentine dances of the 1800s. Photography courtesy Van Cleef & Arpels.

In the early 1900s, young men were not allowed to dance with unmarried women, and so the polka chinata, as it’s called, was an opportunity for them to showcase feats of strength – and hopefully impress the young townsgirl they’d had their eye on.

By the time Alessandro Sciarroni, an artist and curator, heard about the polka chinata in 2017, only five people in Bologna remembered the dance. Once men and women were able to dance with one another, the polka chinata became redundant, remembered only by those who’d had it passed down to them from previous generations.

And then came Sciarroni, and Van Cleef & Arpels, who joined forces to revive the polka chinata for Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels dance festival. Gutter credit. Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels dance festival is held twice a year in a different city across the globe.

It launched in 2020 and has been held in New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Kyoto. For three weeks, venues in the chosen city host a variety of international works, new pieces as well as those that honour the history of contemporary dance. This year saw London and Seoul as hosts, the latter in collaboration with Seoul Performing Arts Festival (SPAF), which has been a beneficiary of VCA for the past few years.

“Dance has been a major source of inspiration for Van Cleef & Arpels, and so Dance Reflections was created to support and to give back to this wonderful art form,” says Serge Laurent, VCA’s director of dance and culture programs. “Our intention was to continue writing a beautiful story that started more than a century ago, between a maison of high jewellery and the field of dance.”

Think of the maison’s iconic Ballerina clips, which were first released in 1941 and continue to be made today, as well as less obviously dance-centric pieces, such as transformable necklace-earring sets or watches that have petals that open and close at random or a pair of lovers who kiss at midnight.

“In [VCA] pieces, there’s always movement, which is kind of strange for static objects, especially jewellery,” Laurent says, full of admiration for the maison’s artisans. “[Their] connection to dance is very obvious.”

Along with its twice-yearly festival, the Dance Reflections initiative is also committed to supporting artists, companies and dance institutions across the world. The network currently includes 70 institutions in 17 countries, including The Australian Ballet’s DanceX in Melbourne, which opened a week before Dance Reflections kicked off in Seoul, and the Sydney Festival in January, where it will support two performances.

“Sponsorship is not a strong tradition in the performing arts. Many corporations invest in visual arts … at the core there’s a [tangible] collection,” Laurent says. “But with the performing arts, it has to be pure philanthropy, because after the show there’s nothing left.

So Dance Reflections is a sponsorship program that supports artists to create new works and supports institutions to present the works, but it’s also a way to contribute to the cultural dynamism of the local communities we are connected with.

The sponsorship is continuous, and the festival is a celebration.” It’s also a means of archiving dance for the future. Laurent calls that an act of “transmission”. Throughout history, the only way to preserve a dance has been to teach it to future generations.

Just like the techniques of a high jewellery maison, “you can only maintain them if you transmit them from one generation to the next”, he says. “Think about how today we can still see classical ballets. I wanted Dance Reflections to support creation, but also the recreation of existing works.”

The Polish choreographer Ola Maciejewska is a perfect case in point: her piece literally has “research” on the tin. Loïe Fuller: Research is a 13-year study of the American dancer Loïe Fuller’s Serpentine dances from the late 1800s. With only a circle of silk draped over shoulders (holding bamboo wands that had been stitched to the underside), Fuller swished and swirled, giving the effect of being engulfed by flames or ocean waves.

Last year, Fuller was the subject of a documentary, Obsessed With Light, that makes the case that neither artistic copyright (she confronted many imitators of her Serpentine dances), body positivity or even modern dance would exist without the boundary-breaking Fuller. Even Taylor Swift paid homage, with Serpentine dance recreations on her 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour.

For her study of the Serpentine dance, Maciejewska choreographed Fuller’s movements on Jean Lesca (who performs in very contemporary Asics sneakers). Choosing a male dancer for a piece originally created by a queer woman was less about gender and more about working with someone with whom Maciejewska could have “a dialogue about deconstructing this historical reference”, she says. “That’s something that’s very important in this collaboration.”

Dancers from the Ballet National de Marseille perform (La)Horde and Rone’s dystopic Room with a View. Photography courtesy Van Cleef & Arpels.

Set to a soundtrack of total silence, punctuated only by a stray cough in the audience, Loïe Fuller: Research is a testament to the power of experimental dance: it appears improvised but, as Maciejewska emphasises, the movement is precise and particular.

“This is a focused work that evolves while it’s being performed,” she explains. Sciarroni is another artist who revived an old work for Dance Reflections. His polka chinata is f ittingly titled Save the Last Dance for Me, a nod to the courtship ritual and that it was nearly extinct. “This courtship dance is very strange … I had never seen two men touching each other and dancing like that, and … you also really carry the other person,” Sciarroni says. “You take them and you go down with them, so it’s really a matter of trust.”

Sciarroni collaborated with Giancarlo Stagni, a dance teacher who’d been caretaker of the dance. With Stagni’s permission, the first thing Sciarroni did was change the music. “When I work on a folk dance, I try to respect the shape of the dance. [It’s] not because I don’t like folk music, but because if you remove that aspect, it’s like removing the landscape behind the human beings and you’re able to see something else,” Sciarroni says.

Now, with video and the internet, it’s easier than ever to keep a dance alive indefinitely. Though dance is not merely meant to be watched, it still needs people to move through it. For this reason, Dance Reflections dance festival also contains dance workshops and masterclasses by choreographers and performers.

“These workshops are open to everyone to promote education and raise public awareness of the choreographic arts through practice,” says Laurent. “An anthropologist in Bologna told me that the only way a dance can go into extinction is when no-one remembers it anymore,” Sciarroni says. “If you think about it, [only a few] years ago there were only five people dancing this dance. Now we have many more, and thanks to the workshop there are going to be people in Korea who will remember forever the polka chinata.” Dance Reflections is also about creating something that feels entirely new.

Save the Last Dance for Me by Alessandro Sciarroni with Lisa Gilardino is a revival of a near-extinct Italian courting dance dating back to the early 1900s. Photography courtesy Van Cleef & Arpels.

“I want to push dancers who are researchers, who are inventing, who are finding their own voice because it’s because of these artists that dance is in motion, still evolving,” Laurent says. “In any era, there is always an artist pushing the boundaries.”

The French punk collective (La)Horde – with Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer and Arthur Harel – presented Room with a View, a dystopic dance created with artist and composer Rone and performed with the Ballet National de Marseille.

For 80 minutes, 23 dancers of 12 nationalities in various states of undress (including nudity) perform in an apocalyptic landscape. It’s confronting: there are sexual assaults and fight scenes, but also scenes of protest, rebellion, community and love, all while Rone pumps electronic music from a DJ booth. It’s a story of collapsing structures, of the environment, human rights – but also the collapse of the patriarchy, of police brutality.

It’s ballet like you’ve never seen it before. It ends on a hopeful note (what’s more punk than optimism while the world goes up in flames?), but your heart rate won’t settle for hours. The piece, from 2020 (note the pandemic timing) and performed around the world, found its place at Dance Reflections in 2023 by challenging the very notion of what dance – what ballet – can be.

Brutti, Debrouwer and Harel work in dance, music, cinema and fashion: they choreographed a video for Burberry; they’ve also worked with Sam Smith, Spike Jonze and Madonna. Since 2019, (La)Horde have been directors of Ballet National de Marseille. Their manifesto is to eliminate the idea of class and segregation in dance: classical ballet is here, contemporary dance is there, modern is somewhere else, then there’s TikTok and hip-hop and countless others.

At (La)Horde, all boundaries have disintegrated, as have gender and rank. Tao Ye’s Tao Dance Theater also turns traditional notions of dance on their head. A graduate of China’s Chongqing Dance School, Tao also danced in the Art Troupe of the Political Department of the Photography courtesy Van Cleef & Arpels. Shanghai Armed Police Force.

Military precision is evident in his choreography, particularly in the f irst performance of the double bill he presented at Dance Reflections, 16 and 17. His dance company is one of abstraction: props and set design are removed – even the “costumes” are no-frills black – so that the dancers are the sole focus.

Dancers from the Ballet National de Marseille perform (La)Horde and Rone’s dystopic Room with a View. Photography courtesy Van Cleef & Arpels.

In some of Tao’s performances, there is no music. “Dance is something you feel and something you emphasise with,” he says. “It doesn’t need words.” Inspired by the games Dragon Dance and Snake, 16 sees as many dancers move across the stage in one continuous, mesmerising line. The exploration of movement relies on the body following the head, giving the illusion that the dancers are boneless, like a snake.

The piece feels simultaneously infinite and contained. At a time when the arts are struggling with funding cuts, and the cost-of-living crisis means people are spending less on experiences, as well as the fact everything feels like it’s falling to pieces, patronage of the arts has never been more crucial. “The arts are a way to bring people together, to contribute to the uniquity of the community,” Laurent says.

“It’s part of local culture. But art is also a way to enlarge our vision of the world. Dance is an incredible field of creation, and it can talk to everybody because our bodies are made for movement. Any kind of person can perceive this artform because we share the same thing, the same medium. There is a possible empathy between dancers and the audience because we have something in common.”

Save the Last Dance for Me and Post Orientalist Express by Eun-Me Ahn are at the Sydney Festival from January 8 to 25.

The post Lady DiorTen Years, Ten Artists, One Legendary (Lady Dior) Bag appeared first on marie claire.

To celebrate a decade of the Lady Dior bag, the French maison invited 10 global artists to reinterpret the iconic accessory through their own creative lens. Here are our top three picks.

Few fashion objects carry the weight of both history and reinvention quite like the Lady Dior. Originally named the Chouchou, the bag was created especially for Princess Diana during her visit to Paris in 1995 as a structured design in quilted black leather adorned with Dior’s gold charms. Upon its debut on her arm, it naturally became an instant icon. Launched in 2016, Dior’s Lady Art project took that legacy into a new era, inviting artists from around the world to reinterpret the iconic accessory through their unique perspective. Over the past decade, 99 artists have reimagined the bag, from sculptural experiments and digital abstractions to painterly reinterpretations that blur the boundary between fashion and fine art.

Now, as Dior celebrates 10 years of this collaboration, 10 new artists transform the Lady Dior once more, exploring light, memory, emotion and materiality. Through embroidery, pearls, paint and innovation, they prove that the bag is not just timeless but ever-evolving. To mark the Dior Lady Art project’s milestone, the luxury maison has also released a new book of the same name. Featuring more than 250 reinterpretations of the Lady Dior bag by 99 contemporary artists, the volume captures the dialogue between fashion, art and craftsmanship that has defined the project since its launch and celebrates the bag’s artistic evolution.

Jessica Cannon

Known for her ethereal studies of light and spiritual landscapes, Brooklyn-born painter Jessica Cannon brings a celestial vision to life across three luminous interpretations of the Lady Dior that seem to shimmer between sea and space. Each bag orbits around a glowing focal point – a sculpted sun, moon or planet – rendered in mother-of-pearl and surrounded by delicate beadwork that mimics the rhythm of waves. On one, muted pastels meet flashes of acid blue and iridescent green, giving the piece a vibrant aquatic energy. On another, a pearlescent shell spiral unfurls into lustrous crystals, with all displaying an incredibly intricate level of craftsmanship.

Marc Quinn

British visual artist Marc Quinn returns to the Dior Lady Art project a decade on, pushing boundaries with a collision of science, symbolism and luxury. He has created five unique designs: from Christian Dior’s own fingerprint transformed into gilded reliefs of varying sizes, to AI-generated human irises derived from a program trained on Quinn’s original iris paintings. Two other designs revive his signature orchid motif. Together, they blur the boundaries between craftsmanship and code.

Alymamah Rashed

Kuwaiti artist Alymamah Rashed’s two designs for Dior explore identity through landscapes rendered in intricate embroidery. One mimics the textures of the Failaka Island shoreline on the coast of Kuwait, glimmering with pearls and sand-like beading; while another blooms with Kuwait’s humaith flower. Each piece features an enamel eye and a poem hidden inside the lining – a message visible only to its owner.

Few actors have experienced a rise as swift or as assured as Chase Infiniti.

At twenty-five, she has already made her feature debut under Paul Thomas Anderson in One Battle After Another, secured a Golden Globe nomination for her performance, and established herself as a performer with rare composure and quiet magnetism.

This combination of early acclaim and measured presence has made Infiniti increasingly significant to Louis Vuitton. The Maison has now confirmed her as its newest House ambassador, a formal step in a relationship that has been developing since 2024.

In that time, she has become a consistent presence at Nicolas Ghesquière’s women’s runway shows, including the latest Spring Summer 2026 presentation at the Musée du Louvre. Her red carpet choices have further reinforced the alignment between her aesthetic instincts and the House’s sensibility.

Most recently, she appeared at the 5th Annual Academy Gala in Los Angeles wearing a garment dyed green silk taffeta bustier gown with precise overstitch pleats.

Ghesquière has spoken of her with evident admiration, noting that she carries an authenticity that resonates long after the performance ends.

“I have watched Chase’s debut with genuine delight, I find her totally captivating in the roles she plays. Beyond her remarkable talent, she radiates an authenticity that is truly unforgettable,” he says.

Infiniti now joins an ambassador roster that includes Lisa of BLACKPINK, Zendaya, Emma Stone, Hoyeon and Léa Seydoux, a group that has shaped much of the Maison’s contemporary cultural presence.

Her appointment feels like a natural extension of her emerging fashion identity, defined by refinement, architectural silhouettes and a confident sense of clarity. With awards season approaching, anticipation is already building around how Infiniti and the Maison will continue to evolve their partnership.

The post Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams And Anna Wintour To Co-Chair 2026 Met Gala appeared first on marie claire.

The 2026 Met Gala will kick off the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring Costume Institute exhibition, “Costume Art.” Leading the event are four prominent figures across entertainment, sports, and fashion: Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour.

This year’s gala marks Beyoncé’s first return to the Met in a decade; she last ascended the museum’s steps in 2016 for the “Manus x Machina” exhibition, wearing Givenchy Haute Couture.

Kidman and Williams, by contrast, have remained Met Gala fixtures, most recently attending May’s “Superfine” event—Kidman in sculptural, vintage-inspired Balenciaga and Williams in a custom Lacoste tennis ensemble.

Joining the co-chairs, Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz will lead the 2026 Host Committee.

They will be joined by Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, LISA, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A’ja Wilson, and Yseult, with additional names to be announced.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos will serve as the lead individual sponsors of the 2026 Met Gala, supporting both the exhibition and its major fundraising initiatives. Their participation, as two figures frequently cited in discussions of America’s evolving oligarchic structures, has prompted renewed scrutiny of the Met Gala’s cultural legitimacy.

In light of this, many have questioned why the co-chairs agreed to take on their roles. Pop culture commentator Blakely Neiman Thornton addressed the issue on Instagram, opening his video by saying, “[Jeff Bezos and Anna Wintour] managed to assemble a group of girls and gays that could easily shield the bullsh*t deservedly coming their way.”

He continued, “the person that continues to disappoint me lately to the nth degree is our girl [Beyonce]….It is now clear to see that her understanding of the culture and of blackness are completely motherf*cking surface which ultimately makes them worthless…When it comes to her choices, I’m done.”

Thornton also addressed Sabrina Carpenter directly, asking, “what are you doing boo? You’re more than willing to call the white house evil, and rightfully so. But throwing a party with his financial backers is a go?”

Comments under the video reflected the divide in public opinion. Some echoed Thornton’s critique, with one writing, “Beyonce letting herself be used like this is the disappointment of the decade,” while another said, “Celebrities will always disappoint us at the end of the day. Because you know what they have, that we don’t? Class solidarity.”

Others, meanwhile, celebrated Beyoncé’s return, saying, “beyonce back at the met gala… i used to pray for days like this 😭

Anna Wintour will also co-chair the 2026 Met Gala, her first since stepping down as American Vogue editor-in-chief. Chloe Malle now leads Vogue’s editorial content, while Wintour assumes global content roles.

With summer in full swing, one thing is certain: dresses are reclaiming pride of place in our seasonal wardrobes.

In the city, that shift brings a collective move toward lighter, shorter hemlines and with it the familiar question of just how short is short enough. This year, the answer feels decisive. The mini dress has firmly reclaimed its title as summer’s defining silhouette.

Today’s mini is less about excess and more about ease. The season’s trends reflect a desire for comfort and lightness, without sacrificing polish or intent.

Fabrication is everything here. Breathable natural fibres trump heavy synthetics, which trap heat and are harsher on the environment. Versatility is just as essential, with pieces that adapt easily from work to weekend and into the evening.

Taking cues from the SS26 runways and the street style set, the mini dress proves its enduring appeal across every setting, from long lunches and late nights to beach days and, with the right styling, even the office. Ahead, we show you exactly how to style a mini dress so it always looks considered and put together.

Scroll on for our styling tips and the best mini dresses to buy this summer.

How To Style A Mini Dress This Summer

Over A Shirt

A mini dress layered over a crisp shirt strikes the perfect note of modern preppy. The styling trick offers the best of both worlds, effortless yet considered in a single step. While it is not quite as retro as the dress-over-jeans revival, it is undeniably versatile.

The look can skew sharp and directional when paired with leather or asymmetrical silhouettes, or feel instantly more refined when worn beneath a structured blazer dress.

As the season winds down, even summer-only favourites you hesitate to store away can stay in rotation. A shirt underneath adds warmth and longevity to everything from satin slips to sequined spaghetti-strap styles.

Over Pants Or Jeans

Our Y2K instincts are firmly on board with the mini-dress-over-pants revival. It may sound counter-intuitive, but when styled well, the result is anything but frumpy.

A billowy mini layered over tailored trousers is quickly becoming one of summer’s most directional pairings, striking a balance between ease and intention.

Textural minis add another layer of interest, from chainmail styles over denim to structured dresses paired with matching trousers. To keep the look modern, anchor it with clean lines and a considered palette.

Cinch In With A Belt

During the 2000s, no outfit felt complete without a statement belt. Extra wide, deliberately conspicuous and often worn high on the body, it was less about function and more about spectacle, championed by everyone from Beyoncé and Rihanna to Paris Hilton.

Now, the big belt is returning in a far more refined form. For a modern take, wear it lower than in the noughties at the waist, or let it sit low on the hips for a more relaxed feel. A belt can instantly transform a mini dress, adding structure and intention. It is also an easy way to define the waist, especially when styling looser, more fluid silhouettes.

Pair With A Skirt

For an ethereal summer look, layer a mini dress over a sheer or gauzy skirt to introduce lightness and dimension. Keep the palette restrained with soft block colours to let texture do the talking, or lean into contrast by mixing prints and mismatched hues for a more playful effect.

Finish with barely-there sandals or a sculptural flat to keep the look feeling effortless rather than overworked.

Why This “Outdated” Shoe Style Is Suddenly Everywhere Again https://www.marieclaire.com.au/shopping/comfortable-high-heels/ Tue, 09 Dec 2025 05:29:36 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1283820 Comfort just got cool

Take a glance beneath boardroom tables, scan bar stools around the city, or watch the fashion parade down the aisle at your next wedding—there’s something noticeably absent: the sky-high stiletto heel.

Today, women are stepping away from the impractical heels of seasons past and embracing styles that blend practicality with polish. Think cushioned insoles, micro platforms, block heels, and sculptural wedges. Comfort is no longer an afterthought—it’s a design principle.

The Best Comfortable Heels, According To marie claire:

But what exactly makes a heel comfortable? Contrary to popular belief, not all heels are instruments of pain. A heel under 7cm eases pressure on the ball of the foot, while a block heel offers stability and balance. Materials matter too—quality leather and clever cushioning can make all the difference.

From relaxed kitten heels and tactile mules to reimagined Mary Janes and structured ballet pumps, today’s comfortable heel can elevate both your outfit and your confidence. Whether you’re dressing for a long night out or a long day on your feet, these carefully curated styles prove you don’t need to compromise on style for the sake of comfort.

Textured Mules

Stepping straight off international runways and into our winter wardrobes, the textured mule is having a serious moment. Fluffy, fuzzy, woolly or plush, these statement heels aren’t for the faint-hearted—they’re made for the playful sartorial risk-takers.

With a touch of Sesame Street chic, they’re guaranteed to turn heads and deliver an unexpected dose of elegance when paired with a power suit or mini and tights.

Mary Janes

Is there a shoe that embodies a classic femininity quite like Mary Jane? Universally adored for its girlish charm and understated sophistication, this timeless staple belongs in every women’s seasonal rotation.

If you’ve yet to slip into a pair, you’re missing out on a world of dapper—and delightfully versatile—possibilities. From glossy patent leather to soft suede, with a single strap or double buckle, the humble Mary Jane has cemented itself as a modern it-girl essential.

Ballet Pump

Thanks to influential designer labels like Miu Miu and it-girl endorsements from the likes of Alexa Chung, ballet pumps are enjoying yet another well-deserved revival. Returning to the spotlight every decade or so—with a modern twist each time—it’s clear we can’t get enough of these nostalgic staples.

This year’s take is all about timeless textures and bow embellishments. Both transeasonal and practical, the ballet pump proves once again that style and comfort go hand in hand.

Thong Heel

Minimalist, comfortable and effortlessly chic, the early-2000s thong heel is back—and it’s firmly cemented its place as a modern style staple. This season, the throwback silhouette gets a fresh update with sculpted heels, square toes and a luxe, pared-back sensibility.

Forget the bodycon bandage dress of the Y2K era, today’s thong heel pairs perfectly with a demure midi skirt or slouchy tailored trousers and a bomber jacket for a look that’s both refined and relaxed.

Metallic

Metallic is magnetic—there’s something inherently human about our attraction to all things shiny. And your footwear should be no exception. From sparkly silver and gunmetal grey to dazzling fuchsia and regal golds, adding a pop of metallic to your step is an instant mood-booster.

There’s always a brilliant new pair gleaming from the shelves, but this lineup of comfortable, eye-catching clacks will also lower your cost per wear.

Peep Toe

Once dismissed as a dated trend unlikely to return, the peep toe has clawed its way back into the fashion spotlight—revived with reimagined silhouettes and asymmetrical accents. From Chloë Sevigny stepping out in the Jude Peep Toe Mule a few months ago to the sky-high peep toe clogs on the Chloé runway earlier this year, exposed toes are having a moment.

But choosing the right pair is key: while towering heels may painfully push your toes through the peephole, a lower block heel offers all the style without the blisters.

Gucci’s eyewear has always walked the line between heritage and reinvention, but the Fall/Winter 2025 collection leans into that duality with delicious conviction. Founded in Florence in 1921 and now part of the Kering stable of global luxury heavyweights, the House has spent over a century honing its craft. This season, that craftsmanship meets a distinctly modern mood. The result? Eyewear that feels both nostalgic and sharply future-facing – very Gucci, very now.

Drawing from the languid silhouettes of the ’90s, the collection reimagines retro shapes with contemporary intention. Oversized mask frames enriched with the iconic Double G logo channel a kind of sleek, cinematic armour – angular, bold and built for the woman (or man) who leads with quiet swagger. Alongside them, Gucci introduces a refined take on optical glamour: squared cat-eye frames cut from bold acetate, enriched with six pearls and an Interlocking G motif along the temples. They feel feminine, a little decadent, and unmistakably Gucci.

For those who appreciate refined embellishments, the Interlocking G is also featured within a strass-accented design. Along the temples, the emblematic logo sits between three sparkling strass on each side, creating a linear composition that catches the light with every turn.

There’s also a renewed focus on mask-style silhouettes, reinterpreted with wraparound lines. They reference the House’s fascination with futurism while nodding to the effortless cool of ’90s It-girl energy. Think bike-path chic meets Riviera glamour.

These are pieces designed for real life, not just the runway: modern classics shaped from premium materials, made to move with you. It’s eyewear for those who prefer their luxury lived-in, their statements understated, and their style stitched with confidence.

December is traditionally a quieter month on the fashion calendar, a brief pause before the intensity of fashion week season returns in February and March.

Yet even as the year slows, the industry never fully stands still. As 2025 draws to a close, brands are using the moment to set the tone for what comes next, with major announcements, strategic appointments and headline-making launches arriving just in time for summer.

From acquisitions at legacy fashion houses to the revival of pop-ups, seasonally themed launches and the release of covetable holiday accessories, this month’s news signals both reflection and forward momentum. These are the fashion moments closing out the year and shaping the season ahead.

Max Mara’s New Chadstone Flagship

Max Mara has opened a new boutique at Chadstone Shopping Centre, marking the brand’s latest expansion in Australia’s luxury retail landscape. Located in the heart of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest shopping destination, the store brings Max Mara’s unmistakable Italian elegance to one of Melbourne’s most prestigious fashion precincts, joining an edit of the world’s leading luxury houses.

The new space is defined by a refined balance of materials, light and form. Its sculptural façade is crafted in cocciopesto—an iconic Mediterranean material reinterpreted through a contemporary lens—created by artisans from Reggio Emilia, the brand’s birthplace. Slender rods and linear lighting elements form luminous vertical columns, lending depth, movement and a sense of visual rhythm that draws visitors in from the mall.

Inside, a warm, enveloping palette reflects Max Mara’s signature codes, with Calacatta Gold marble and caramel peach–tinted glass complemented by soft camel fabrics, a nod to the house’s iconic coats. The result is a bright, sophisticated and welcoming environment that celebrates Italian craftsmanship, timeless design and the enduring appeal of the Max Mara aesthetic.

NYE At Olympus

Olympus is set to usher in the new year in full celebratory mode, transforming New Year’s Eve into a high-energy, late-night affair that runs well into the early hours. Midnight in the House of Gods will see the venue reimagined as a modern Athenian amphitheatre, with bougainvillea, sculptural stone textures and dramatic lighting drawing all focus to a pulsing central dance floor. The tone is decadent and immersive, designed for those who want to ring in 2026 surrounded by atmosphere, music and movement.

Guests will be treated to roaming plates of bold Greek flavours from arrival, paired with free-flowing drinks that set the pace for the night—beginning with a Four Pillars cocktail on entry and culminating in a midnight toast of Louis Roederer Champagne. Daimon Downey (Sneaky Sound System) will host the celebrations, while DJ Rich Penny (RÜFÜS DU SOL, FISHER) commands the decks with an all-night set, keeping energy high until 2am. Tickets are $299 per person, including food and a three-hour beverage package, with limited capacity ensuring an intimate, high-impact celebration.

The Prada Group has officially acquired fellow Milan fashion house Versace in a $2.2 billion deal, bringing two of Italy’s most recognisable luxury labels under one roof. The acquisition places Versace’s high-glamour aesthetic alongside Prada’s cerebral minimalism and Miu Miu’s youth-driven edge. The group confirmed the transaction following full regulatory approval.

The move is expected to revitalise Versace after a period of softer post-pandemic performance under former owner Capri Holdings. Prada heir Lorenzo Bertelli will lead the next phase as executive chair.

Following the news, Dario Vitale stepped down as the creative director of Versace after only eight months at the helm.

Dario Vitale Exits Versace After Less Than 9 Months

Dario Vitale’s debut collection for Versace, hailed for its ’80s-inspired opulence and nods to Gianni Versace’s iconic tailoring, was a critical success. However, just months after his appointment in April, Vitale’s tenure came to an abrupt end following Prada’s acquisition of Versace.

With his first collection yet to hit retail, fans are left wondering if his vision for the brand will ever materialise in stores.

Max Mara’s 2026 Resort collection is a study in contrasts — a seamless blend of timeless Italian elegance and contemporary sophistication. Drawing on its rich heritage, the house revisits its roots while looking boldly to the future, producing a collection that feels at once classic and entirely now.

Inspired by the glamour of post-war Italy and the iconic women who defined its style, RE26 channels effortless confidence in every silhouette. From Naples to Rome, the Max Mara woman of 2025 is self-assured, poised, and unafraid to embrace sartorial detail with precision and panache.

The collection’s highlights include monogrammed silk pajamas, delicate embroidered cashmere sweaters, and striped shirts in soft pinks and blues with crisp collars and cuffs. Jackets adopt a lighter construction, drawing from Neapolitan tailoring, while audaciously rolled shorts and full-circle skirts with geometric pockets inject a playful edge. Signature cravat-print designs, first seen in 1951, make a stylish comeback, while strapless dresses, tops with portrait collars, and matching bras nod to Max Mara’s enduring commitment to elegance with intention.

Outerwear is unapologetically timeless. Belts, shawl-collared coats, funnel-necked jackets, and fringe-detailed pieces ensure the line transitions effortlessly from day to evening, while strapless gowns, adorned with crystal detailing and silk gauze, feel simultaneously sculpted and ethereal. The collection is Italian in its essence — designed to look good, feel strong, and move seamlessly through life’s moments.

Accessories also play a starring role. Max Mara introduces new iterations of the Whitney Bag alongside delicately refined silk scarves, available in a curated selection of exclusive models from June 18. Every detail, from tailored collars to rolled hems, speaks to the house’s commitment to refinement without excess.

Anchored by Italian cinematic glamour and the effortless verve of Naples and Rome, the Resort collection is a study in understated drama. Max Mara continues to prove why its style commands a global stage: it is confident, exacting, and unmistakably Italian.

The Gotham Awards, which kicked off the 2025-2026 awards season on Monday, set the stage for what is sure to be a captivating year of cinematic celebrations. With a lineup that celebrated both indie darlings and A-list heavyweights, the event was brimming with dazzling fashion, notable wins, and, of course, red carpet moments that left us all in awe.

For the evening, marie claire’s December cover star Rose Byrne turned heads in a custom Louis Vuitton gown.

The fitted bodice, meticulously hand-embroidered with vertical black sequins, sculpted an effortlessly sleek and structured silhouette that contrasted beautifully with the ethereal fluidity of the skirt.

The A-line shape of the gown was formed by gathered layers of silk tulle, with the inner layer in a softer hue to add sculptural depth. Raw-edge finishes on the frills lent an airy quality, enhancing the gown’s breathtaking movement.

The embroidery itself was a labor of love: 50,000 black “cuvette” sequins, each a mere 5mm in diameter, were hand-crocheted by five artisans over the course of 180 hours.

The sequins, arranged in a “rivière” style, allowed for a seamless flow that was both eye-catching and fluid. A total of 25 meters of silk tulle were used to create the gown’s delicate layers, with the overall design taking 300 hours of painstaking work.

At the awards, Guillermo del Toro was honored with the Vanguard Tribute for Frankenstein, a film that celebrates the human-driven artistry of cinema. It Was Just an Accident by Jafar Panahi emerged as the evening’s big winner, sweeping the awards.

Akinola Davies Jr. took home the coveted Breakthrough Director award for My Father’s Shadow, while Tessa Thompson was recognised with the Spotlight Tribute.

Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman were honoured with the inaugural Musical Tribute, and One Battle After Another won Best Feature, with Paul Thomas Anderson accepting the award and dedicating it to his wife, Maya Rudolph, on their anniversary.

Meanwhile, Rose Byrne’s performance as Linda in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You was a standout of the evening, earning her recognition in the Leading Performance category. In this unflinchingly raw role, Byrne portrays a mother desperate to maintain control as she cares for a child with a mysterious illness.

Add a dysfunctional marriage, a sinkhole in their New York apartment, and a tense feeding schedule at a Montauk hotel, and you have a narrative that is both absurd and heartbreaking.

Byrne, at 46, delivers a performance that is both harrowing and beautifully controlled—an elastic band stretched to its breaking point before finally snapping. It is a career-defining moment, an immense feat of emotional restraint, and one of her most compelling performances to date.

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You earned four nominations at the Gothams in total, including Best Film, Best Director (Mary Bronstein), and Best Screenplay, making it one of the night’s most talked-about films.

Though it didn’t win any awards, its nominations were a testament to the film’s profound impact and a clear indication of Byrne’s raw talent and range.

All Aboard: Chanel’s Couture Commute Arrives In New York https://www.marieclaire.com.au/fashion/runway/chanel-metiers-dart-show-2026/ Thu, 04 Dec 2025 01:19:39 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1499606 Inside the house’s 2026 Métiers d’art collection

The post All Aboard: Chanel’s Couture Commute Arrives In New York appeared first on marie claire.

]]>

New York has not hosted a Chanel spectacle since 2018, when Karl Lagerfeld unfurled his Métiers d’Art collection inside The Met’s Temple of Dendur. Last night, the house returned and, in true Matthieu Blazy fashion, it doubled down.

Fresh off his lauded spring 2026 debut in Paris, Blazy staged not one but two Métiers d’Art 2026 shows in Manhattan. A 3pm presentation was followed by a 7pm reprise. Both unfolded inside a nondescript station at 168 Bowery, where a stationary subway car became the gateway to his latest vision.

Guests lined worn wooden benches as models stepped out of the train and onto the platform, couture unfurling beneath fluorescent light and tiled walls.

The front row was unmistakably New York. A$AP Rocky and Margaret Qualley, Teyana Taylor, Jessie Buckley, Ayo Edebiri, Tilda Swinton, Meg Ryan, Bowen Yang, Dapper Dan and Christine Baranski were among those in attendance.

Many have lived, studied or built careers in the city and remain fixtures within its cultural fabric. Their presence gave the night the air of a homecoming rather than an industry takeover.

For Chanel, it was exactly that. Gabrielle Chanel first arrived in New York in 1931 en route to Hollywood.

Decades later, Lagerfeld returned repeatedly, culminating in his final Temple of Dendur show. Blazy, too, carries the city with him, shaped by three formative years working under Raf Simons at Calvin Klein. If Paris is Chanel’s origin myth, New York is its proving ground.

Blazy traced the anti-hierarchy of the subway, where one fare carries everyone in the same direction — bankers, mothers, students, night-shift workers. The cadence of that collective movement felt stitched into every look.

Slouchy denim opened the show, some crafted from Lesage embroidery disguised as jeans. Sharp tweeds followed, including a leopard print suit that perfectly balanced irreverence and tradition.

The styling felt drawn from the platform itself. Coats draped over bags, knits tied at the waist, shoulder bags tucked close. A camel quarter zip with light wash jeans looked lifted from a downtown morning commute. Nothing felt misplaced.

Yet the Chanel codes pulsed throughout. Little black dresses, flapper silhouettes, pastel flashes, veiled fascinators, opera capes and plunging beaded gowns appeared in steady rhythm, lighter and more fluid than before.

Humour cut through in sequinned terriers, zebra striping and a bedazzled “I Heart NY” tee beneath tweed, a playful nod to Canal Street replication and Lagerfeld’s graffiti era.

Look closer and the whimsy deepened: ladybirds glinted across tailoring, and a Chanel bag embellished with a golden giraffe’s head and stick-like legs emerged as one of the night’s quiet talking points — hidden creatures roaming Blazy’s subway fantasy like an urban jungle in miniature, revealed only to the most attentive eye.

Couture at rush hour should not make sense. Yet in Blazy’s hands, it achieves a kind of metropolitan inevitability.

While much of the world eases toward year’s end, fashion enters one of its most commanding moments. December does not signal retreat, but crescendo. On December 1, the 2025 Fashion Awards reclaimed London’s Royal Albert Hall, drawing designers, models and the industry’s highest echelon of power players into one glittering convergence.

Arriving just weeks after New York’s CFDA Awards, the quick turnaround did nothing to dull the appetite for spectacle.

Presented by the British Fashion Council in partnership with Pandora, the ceremony functioned as both celebration and cultural reckoning.

The awards honour those reshaping fashion in real time, from emerging provocateurs to the titans whose influence continues to set the global agenda. Beyond the red carpet, the evening also delivered tangible impact, raising critical funds for the BFC Foundation and its grant and education programs that nurture the next generation of talent.

Actor and style icon Colman Domingo presided over the night in custom Burberry that nodded with precision to British craftsmanship. Anok Yai arrived already anointed Model of the Year after another season of dominance on the world’s most influential runways. Sienna Miller also revealed she is pregnant with her third child, arriving with partner Oli Green in a sheer Givenchy gown.

Attention soon shifted to the most hotly contested category of the evening. The Designer of the Year race saw Glenn Martens, Jonathan Anderson, Miuccia Prada, Willy Chavarria and Martine Rose go head to head for the industry’s top honour.

Ultimately, Jonathan Anderson claimed the prize for the third year running, while Delphine Arnault received a Special Recognition award for her exceptional contribution to the global fashion industry and longstanding commitment to championing emerging talent.

The programme was elevated by live performances from Tems and Raye, who delivered her hit Where Is My Husband! alongside a rendition of Cry Me a River, as well as a stirring appearance by the English National Ballet. Together, the moments underscored the night’s celebration of artistry across disciplines.

Ahead, the looks that set the tone for the night.

Meet DOTSHOP, The Curated Fashion Destination Quietly Changing How We Shop https://www.marieclaire.com.au/shopping/dotshop-online-shopping-platform/ Mon, 01 Dec 2025 22:07:20 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1499269 A marketplace built by tastemakers

The post Meet DOTSHOP, The Curated Fashion Destination Quietly Changing How We Shop appeared first on marie claire.

Without a doubt, one of the most defining characteristics of shopping today is the feeling of overwhelm. Whether you’re trying to find something online, or you’ve actually journeyed out to explore the shopfloor, the options are plenty, to the extent that decision fatigue often quickly sets in and you decide it’s actually easier to retreat, that you need more time to mull it over. Or worse yet, you impulse buy something you wear maybe once and then never again.

Enter: DOTSHOP, the Australian-founded marketplace that’s aiming to do what others have failed at: restoring the joy of discovery in an era where shopping has become exhausting.

For co-founder and CEO Lisa Ruffle, the idea grew out of a career sitting squarely at the intersection of fashion, retail and digital. As former Buying Director at Moda Operandi and David Jones, and saw firsthand how online shopping had lost its sense of curation. “Discovery in fashion for the modern woman became broken,” she explains. “Endless product feeds, extremely high-priced edits, and very little curation or point of view.”

Working with co-founder Stephen Jensen, with DOTSHOP they’re proposing something more intimate, intelligent, and genuinely stylish than what we’ve come to expect from online shopping. It blends the rigour of old-world fashion buying with the cultural influence of modern tastemakers, creating a platform where curation is not an aesthetic choice but a considered strategy.

The idea is to bring clarity back into the experience. For Ruffle, DOTSHOP is “a place to discover exceptional pieces and the voices behind them”.

Unlike traditional e-commerce sites that rely on volume, DOTSHOP takes a deliberately restricted, premium approach. As a marketplace, it houses a precise edit of fashion, beauty, jewellery and archival vintage, with brands ranging from Christopher Esber and Magda Butrym to Joanna Czech Skincare, Skin Design London, Tove and rare pieces from Prada, Céline and Alaïa

But its real differentiator is the people behind the selection. Ruffle and her team have built a curator-driven model, an ecosystem of trusted style authorities who create their own storefronts, share personal recommendations, and reveal the pieces they genuinely wear and love.

Curators include Lara Worthington, AGMES founder Morgan Lang, stylist Debora Rosa, model Ella Richards and renowned esthetician Joanna Czech. Each curator brings the sensibility of a buyer or editor, filtering the market through their own lens so shoppers can browse not just by category, but by taste.

Ruffle describes the model as an evolution of what modern shoppers are already craving: authenticity anchored in expertise. “We really want to hear from experts when it comes to investing our money,” she says. “Our curators are the modern equivalent of store buyers, tastemakers, editors, and creators who build their own DOTSHOP storefronts. Each brings a point of view, introducing their audience to brands and pieces they genuinely wear and love. We want to shop with real people who have real style.” For shoppers fatigued by endless influencer links and the fragmentation that comes with them, DOTSHOP’s approach offers coherence. As a true marketplace, customers can check out across multiple brands and curators in a single seamless transaction.

Ultimately, it’s about bringing back the element of surprise and delight that used to make shopping feel fun. And about ensuring you find something to buy now, but love and want to wear for years to come. “Australian women are some of the most stylish in the world, so we are really building DOTSHOP for her.”

The Gift Of Time Is Reimagined By Swatch This Holiday Season https://www.marieclaire.com.au/fashion/accessories/swatch-holiday-collection/ Fri, 28 Nov 2025 04:05:47 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1499295 It’s gifting time

Each year, somewhere between the first breath of summer and the soft glow of December, the cultural calendar pivots from anticipation to celebration. Christmas edges into view, Mariah Carey reclaims the airwaves, and the season of giving quietly announces itself.

Against this familiar backdrop, Swatch enters the holidays not with excess, but with restraint, offering a collection shaped by warmth rather than spectacle. Its latest Holiday Collection is presented not simply as an accessory drop, but as a meditation on time itself and how we choose to share it.

Togetherness sits at the heart of the collection. Visually, it speaks in a language of considered contrast, where vibrant seasonal colour meets polished stainless steel. The silhouettes feel purposeful and wearable, designed for the rhythm of daily life rather than fleeting occasion.

Among the highlights, the What If…Green? reinterprets the classic watch form through a sculptural square Bioceramic case and seamless edge-to-edge biosourced glass. A luminous white dial with day-date functionality grounds the design in minimalistic utility.

Swatch Holiday Collection
Image: Supplied

Its counterpart, Essence Of Rose, moves in a different register altogether: bold, shimmering and distinctly feminine, finished in polished stainless steel with rose-gold PVD accents and a matching bezel.

True to Swatch’s Swiss roots, craftsmanship anchors every piece. Stainless steel chronographs sit beside the brand’s signature 47mm statements, while the automatic movement introduces a note of mechanical artistry to a collection defined by accessibility.

In a moment when time has become our most precious currency, there is something quietly radical in gifting it symbolically.

Available from November 6, 2025, online and in Swatch boutiques worldwide, the collection arrives not as a seasonal novelty, but as a considered offering.

Since its founding in 1983, Swatch has consistently operated at the intersection of precision and play, blending Swiss craftsmanship with cultural intuition. From its early embrace of action sports to its ongoing artistic patronage through the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, the brand has always treated time as more than measurement. It is motion. It is rhythm. It is shared experience.

This holiday season, Swatch invites us to spend it where it truly matters.

A few summers ago, a bias midi skirt paired back with a t-shirt was the warm-weather uniform of it-girls everywhere. But, somethings shifted in recent seasons, and that something is our hemlines.

We heralded in a new era of two extremes: micro mini-skirts (the catalyst of which came in the Miu Miu SS22 runway) and floor-skimming maxis. The latter has had a far more subtle return to fashion forefront.

In 2023, it was denim iterations that took over the style set, but this summer, maximalist shapes, soft flowing chiffons and semi sheer long skirts are what we’re coveting. A quintessential silhouette of the boho trend, we’ve seen the silhouette reprised at Chemena Kamali’s new look Chloé in sheer and billowing styles.

On the Spring/Summer25 runways, Alaïa maxi skirts took on dramatic bubble-hemmed forms, while Prada opted for subtle embellishments on silky, straight cuts.

The Long Skirts We’re Buying In 2025

If you’re in the market for a long or maxi skirt to complete your summer wardrobe and nail the above outfit inspo, here are marie claire’s pick of the styles the shop this season.

How To Style Your Long Skirts

When it comes to everyday wearing, the long skirt is to summer, what jeans are to winter: an effortless staple, easily styled.

Not only are they the perfect go-to when you can’t be bothered to shave your legs, the long skirt looks utterly chic on minimal effort—exactly why I’m buying multiples for the season ahead.

Laszlo Badet On Hosting As A Form Of Giving https://www.marieclaire.com.au/fashion/laszlo-badet-hosting-with-georg-jensen/ Wed, 26 Nov 2025 22:37:54 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1498723 Go beyond what you put on the table

The post Laszlo Badet On Hosting As A Form Of Giving appeared first on marie claire.

Christmas can be a magical time, and carefully selecting the perfect gift for your loved ones is a meaningful way to show you care. But beyond what gets wrapped under the tree, the season is really about spending time together and making genuine connections.

To show your friends and family just how much they mean to you, extend the generosity beyond gifts and open your home to them. Paris-based Swiss cook Lazslo Badet believes that hosting goes far beyond what you put on the table — it’s about how you welcome people in by sharing personal traditions, food and heartfelt connection.

Badet explores her connection with hosting, sharing that she “loves showing friends different things — from the produce [she] cooks with to the table setting and art pieces. These moments mean more to me than anything.”

Dinner With Laszlo Badet

Hosting As A Form Of Giving

Before the night arrives, Badet’s to-do list includes a mental rehearsal of the meal to ensure her guests will have everything they need. Her approach to hosting has been shaped by her Swiss upbringing and passion for curating a flavourful seasonal menu.

Badet shares that her “grandmother was a good example — she always paid attention to writing an invitation and cooking something that suited the season or the occasion,” a lesson Badet carries with her today.

The Table Touches

Dressing the table is an art form, and for Badet, each design choice is deliberate. Her holiday table combines white porcelain with textured sterling silver, while vibrant pops of colour come from crimson tapered candles, clove-studded oranges, and her signature radishes cut into floral arrangements — all displayed in the sculptural heritage Georg Jensen Grape bowl.

Badet’s menu consists of seasonal specialities from her home country, including an appetiser of Tête de Moine cheese and wonderfully fragrant red wine poached pears, both served on grooved white porcelain dishware.

Dressing The Part

For Badet, hosting is as much about looking the part as it is about the meal or table setting she’s prepared. She opts for simplicity in her ensemble, pairing an understated outfit with a collection of fine jewellery. The Georg Jensen Offspring Double Earhoops adorn her ears, while the Offspring Brooch elegantly details her coat. The wearable Orb Chain doubles as an intricate drop keychain — one of five designs inspired by the art movements that have shaped Georg Jensen’s history.

21 trending items in this article are currently on sale!

As the flowers bloom and we fall into spring before easing into summer, there’s often nothing better than long meandering days in the sun. That is, until you start to feel an irritable rash start to develop between your thighs.

What’s affectionately referred to as ‘chub-rub’ does not discriminate; across body shapes, sizes, ages and genders, it’s incredibly common for many people to experience the uncomfortable heat of chafing between their legs.

The Best Anti-Chafing Shorts, According To marie claire

Which is why anti-chafing shorts might just be one of the greatest inventions of fashion. Instead of bothering with baby powder or moisturisers that usually don’t work very well, you can pop a pair of these on and you’re set.

Designed to be worn under your regular clothes (and in most cases, over your undies), anti-chafing shorts do exactly as they say on the tin: prevent that rash from developing between your thighs. They allow you to focus on what really matters: Aperols with friends and finding the best prawns to eat at lunch.

Today, there are a huge number of options on the market, but the key to choosing a pair that will be a genuine life-saver is looking at their fabrication, fit and cut. You want them made of breathable, comfortable fibres, to fit well and sit just right on your body so they don’t ride up uncomfortably.

Luckily, we’ve done all of the research for you to make your search as simple as possible. Below, you’ll find our favourite anti-chafing shorts to shop in Australia, with several pairs currently discounted for Black Friday, so your summer is remembered for all the right reasons.

What Are Anti-Chafing Shorts?

Anti-chafing shorts are lightweight, breathable undergarments designed to prevent skin irritation and thigh rubbing, especially during warm weather or physical activity. They’re often worn under dresses, skirts, or workout clothes to provide a smooth barrier between the thighs.

What’s The Difference Between Shapewear And Anti-Chafing Shorts?

Shapewear shorts and anti-chafing shorts may look similar, but they serve different purposes. Shapewear shorts are designed to sculpt and smooth the body, offering compression to shape areas like the tummy, hips, and thighs. They often use firmer materials to contour your silhouette under clothing. In contrast, anti-chafing shorts focus on comfort and skin protection, particularly in the inner thigh area. They’re typically made from lightweight, breathable, non-compressive fabrics and are meant to prevent thigh rub and irritation—not shape your body. While some anti-chafe shorts may offer light smoothing, their primary function is all-day comfort, especially under dresses or skirts in warm weather.

Do Anti-Chafing Shorts Work?

Yes, when made from moisture-wicking, soft materials like cotton blends or performance fabrics, anti-chafing shorts can effectively eliminate friction and keep you comfortable all day. Look for flat seams and tagless designs for extra protection.

What Fabric Is Best For Anti-Chafing Shorts?

Look for soft, stretchy materials like modal, bamboo, or nylon blends. Moisture-wicking technology and breathable weaves are key to keeping skin cool and dry, reducing the risk of chafing.

How Long Should Anti-Chafing Shorts be?

The ideal length depends on your comfort and needs. For inner thigh protection, a mid-thigh length (around 5–9 inches) works well. Shorter styles may ride up, while longer ones offer more coverage.

Can I Wear Anti-Chafing Short Under Dresses And Skirts?

Absolutely. Anti-chafing shorts are specifically designed to be worn under skirts and dresses. They’re typically lightweight and seamless to stay invisible under clothing, offering both comfort and modesty.

Denim trends may shift with every season, yet occasionally a collection arrives that feels like a necessary recalibration.

Guess is making precisely that statement with its new Timeless Denim range, a polished reinterpretation of the brand’s classic Americana spirit that blends conscious design, modern craftsmanship and a whisper of early 2000s nostalgia.

For a label that has shaped the global denim conversation for decades, this latest chapter feels both comfortingly familiar and thoughtfully evolved. The collection centres on clean lines, refined silhouettes and elevated everyday pieces created to live well beyond the constraints of seasonal styling.

The Spring campaign, photographed by Josh Ryan and directed by Paul Marciano, captures the essence of Guess with striking clarity.

The imagery reflects the brand’s distinctive balance of Californian ease and sharp glamour, referencing early aughts style through low-slung cuts, authentic washes and an understated sensuality that Guess helped to define. Every element is considered, from the sculpted fits to the subtle textural detailing that lends each garment a contemporary edge.

At its core, the collection champions longevity. These are garments conceived with intention, shaped by strong construction and meticulous finishing. Guess is presenting wardrobe staples designed to endure, allowing you to return to them season after season without feeling tethered to passing trends.

The result is denim that feels both wearable and transformative.

Beyond its nostalgic charm, Timeless Denim reflects the brand’s ongoing commitment to durability and conscious production. The focus on quality materials and responsible processes encourages a slower and more deliberate approach to dressing, one that values pieces that can be worn, shared and eventually passed on.

Whether you favour a tailored straight leg, a soft flare or a versatile denim jacket, the collection makes a clear promise. This is denim created to evolve with you.

The Guess Timeless Denim collection is now available in store and online at guess.com.au.

The 2025 marie claire Women of the Year Awards set the stage for one of the most powerful and stylish evenings of the year.

Held at Bell Shakespeare and presented by Georg Jensen with support from Volvo, Olay, F5 Collective and Constellation Brands, the event gathered more than 150 of Australia’s most influential women for a night that honoured extraordinary achievement and equally extraordinary fashion.

The guest list read like a pantheon of cultural influence. TV icons Janice Petersen, Melissa Doyle, Lisa Wilkinson and Samantha Armytage mingled alongside advocates Grace Tame, Brittany Higgins and Vanessa Turnbull-Roberts, while Olay ambassador Pia Whitesell brought a quiet sense of sophistication.

Wherever you looked, the room was populated by women who have shaped the past decade – and those who are boldly architecting the next.

As guests settled in, marie claire editor Georgie McCourt opened the night with a line that captured its spirit:

“Our nominees tonight are women whose work is changing the world in big, loud ways and in quiet, essential ways. Their stories will stay with you long after this event, and they’re guaranteed to shift your perspective.”

As the global awards circuit continues its annual whirlwind, from the LACMA Gala earlier this month to this week’s Governors Awards and with the Golden Globes and Grammys now only weeks away, attention often shifts to Hollywood’s biggest stages.

Today, however, the spotlight tilts decisively homeward. The ARIA Music Awards unfurl their red carpet at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, inviting a celebration that feels unmistakably and triumphantly Australian.

Long recognised as the country’s foremost celebration of musical excellence, the ARIAs bring together the full spectrum of Australia’s sound. Across 29 award categories and a vast cross-section of genres, the ceremony recognises chart-dominating powerhouses, bold new voices and the creative architects behind the scenes who have shaped the past year with ingenuity, edge and ambition.

It is a night devoted to the many dimensions of talent: global trailblazers, innovative disruptors and the producers, writers and collaborators who give Australian music its pulse.

Sydney, the creative capital of the country’s music landscape, provides an atmospheric backdrop worthy of the occasion. The city’s vibrant energy, amplified by a warm summer afternoon, bathes the event in a sense of momentum and anticipation.

The Hordern Pavilion, rich with cultural history, once again becomes the centre of Australia’s musical universe, a venue that has welcomed generations of leading performers from around the world.

Tonight’s crimson carpet welcomes a striking lineup of talent, including Olivia Dean, arriving in the glow of a Grammy nomination and the announcement of her forthcoming sophomore album, The Art of Loving.

She appears alongside a remarkable cohort of artists: Alex Lahey, Anna Ryan, Baker Boy, G Flip, Janet English, Keli Holiday, Kita Alexander, Missy Higgins, Neve Van Boxsel, Thelma Plum, Touch Sensitive, You Am I and Young Franco.

Missy Higgins

After being inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame last year, Missy Higgins returned to the stage last night to collect an ARIA for her latest album The Second Act. For the occasion, she stepped out in a vibrant Alemais mini dress featuring a bold, artistic print created in collaboration with Laurence Leenaert.

For her performance, Higgins slipped into a second Alemais look — a floor-length sequin gown covered in painterly patchwork motifs.
