Charlee Fraser is sitting somewhere in Queensland, cicadas humming loudly enough to puncture the quiet, when she starts talking about time. Not time as a deadline or a schedule or a thing to be outrun – but as something more fluid. Something, as she puts it, that can be “an indicator, rather than a dictator.” 

Given she now calls LA home, Fraser is technically on holiday. There is a lagoon in front of her – she mentions it in passing, aware of how idyllic it sounds. She speaks slowly, deliberately, choosing her words with care. It becomes clear, within minutes, that this is not someone interested in racing through life. She has already done that. 

A proud Awabakal woman, Fraser was born in Newcastle, on the coast of New South Wales. She grew up climbing trees, riding motorbikes, skating with a single rollerblade, and making potions from flowers, rocks and dirt in the backyard. Her parents were always collecting animals – cats, dogs, goats, sheep, even a peacock at one point – and nature was never a weekend escape, but a constant presence. “We were just always outside,” she says. “With the animals. With the land.” 

At 18, she was scouted and thrown into a fashion industry she knew almost nothing about. She joined IMG, rose quickly through the Australian ranks, then experienced a breakout international season at Fall/Winter 2016 that would change everything. Her star-is-born moment came just before Alexander Wang’s New York Fashion Week show, when legendary hairstylist Guido Palau cut her long hair into a sharp bob. American Vogue dubbed her “the new face to know” almost immediately. That season, she walked more than 40 shows – Prada, Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Céline – becoming the first Indigenous Australian model to work consistently with the world’s most powerful fashion houses. 

For a while, the pace was relentless. The shows. The flights. The expectations. Fraser talks about her early twenties as a time when she was perpetually running – late, breathless, overstimulated. “I always felt like I was running out of time,” she says. “There was never enough of it. I had lists for everything. I was chasing something we’d created.” 

Then came a shift. In her late twenties – a period she links instinctively to her Saturn return – Fraser began what she describes as an inner journey. COVID, she says, accelerated everything. “The last five years have been completely transformative. I’m still me – but I know myself now.” That self-knowledge fundamentally changed her relationship with time. “Time doesn’t exist to me in the way we’ve made it,” she says. “My life exists. So where I put my time is where I’m placing my life.” 

It’s a philosophy that now informs everything – from the projects she accepts to the rituals that anchor her days. Fraser meditates, journals, moves her body daily. She eats at least one meal a day in complete silence – no phone, no book, no distraction. “Just sitting. Just eating,” she says. “It’s so grounding.”

She journals obsessively. There’s a dream journal. A feelings journal. A daily record of what she’s done and how she felt. She has notebooks dating back to high school, filled with fragments: crushes, anger, half-formed thoughts. “It’s like a scrapbook of my life,” she says. Stillness, for Fraser, is not emptiness. It’s where creativity lives. “When the thinking part of your brain is busy – washing dishes, driving – your subconscious comes through,” she explains. “That’s where the magic is.” 

This attentiveness to the inner world has reshaped her work, too. After more than a decade in fashion, Fraser turned her focus toward acting. In 2023, she landed roles in two major films: Warner Bros.’ Furiosa and Sony’s romantic comedy Anyone But You. For Furiosa, she trained relentlessly – combat, riding, physical conditioning, acting – throwing herself into preparation with characteristic intensity. “If I’m in, I’m 110 per cent in,” she says. “I love being challenged. I love learning new skills.”  

She doesn’t romanticise the process. “I didn’t pace myself,” she admits. “I just threw myself into it.” But she also recognises that modelling had prepared her for this moment: the vulnerability of being watched, the ability to take direction, the stamina required to move constantly, the discipline of showing up. “I came into acting with lived experience,” she says. “That’s a privilege.” 
Her latest project, Stake Out, sees Fraser starring alongside Brenton Thwaites and Danny Huston in a taut, psychological horror-thriller. 

As she’s grown older, Fraser has become more selective. There was a deliberate “yes year” in her early twenties – a personal experiment in saying yes to everything. Then came a phase of almost total refusal. Now, she’s found equilibrium. “If it’s not a fuck yes, it’s a no,” she says, plainly. “Your time and your energy are resources.”
 
That discernment extends beyond work. Fraser describes herself as introverted, though not rigidly so. She can be magnetic and social – but it takes intention. Solitude, she says, is where she resets. “I’m very independent. I’m used to being alone. I love my solo escapes.” 


Her relationship with time has recently taken on a new, tangible form. As an ambassador for Omega, Fraser wears a watch daily – something she never imagined she would do. Specifically, an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 30mm. “The last time I can remember wearing a watch was around the age of four when my grandparents began teaching me about ‘time’,” she says. “At that age, I felt confused and imprisoned by the concept. Avoidant, uninterested, and unnecessary. Why did I need to know how to ‘tell time’? My adolescence was meant for creativity, adventure, and learning.” 

Now, she says, the feeling is entirely different. “With everything that has evolved in the world since – technology and social media specifically – putting on a watch now after all these years feels like freedom. Without having to look at a screen or spot a digital clock, a mere peak at my Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 30mm to mark the day has returned much more of my youth and presence than I ever deeply considered over wearing a timepiece.” 

She pauses, then adds: “I’m far less distracted, more accomplished, and feel a sense of reclamation. There’s more space for mindfulness, imagination, invention and venture. I feel a step closer to nature and connection – not just with the world, but people too.” 

It’s a striking inversion: a watch, long associated with pressure and productivity, becoming a tool for presence. “From someone who’s always felt ‘out of time’,” she says, “to someone who now has ‘nothing but time’.” 

The future isn’t something she’s trying to outrun. There are films coming. A video game. Creative experiments she can’t yet name. But more than anything, she’s interested in spending time well – with people who value her, in work that feels aligned, in moments that allow her to feel deeply. “Even crying,” she says. “I love crying. It means I care.” Time, after all, is no longer something she’s chasing. “Time is my life,” she says again. “So what I’m excited to spend my life doing is becoming clearer.”

As Dior looks towards Spring–Summer 2026, two accessories emerge as defining gestures within Jonathan Anderson’s first season at the House: the introduction of the Dior Bow bag and a considered, playful reimagining of the Lady Dior.

Together, they offer an early indication of how Anderson is approaching the brand’s heritage, with an emphasis on lightness, symbolism and ease.

The Dior Bow bag first appeared alongside Anderson’s Spring–Summer 2026 ready-to-wear collection, where its sculptural form drew attention for its restraint. Shaped as a bow, one of Dior’s most familiar motifs, the design feels gently expressive rather than declarative.

Crafted in grained leather, its clean lines and softly structured silhouette give it a natural versatility that suits everyday wear.

Practical details are integrated with discretion. An invisible closure preserves the clarity of the design, while a removable chain strap, threaded with metal links and subtle bow accents, allows the bag to move easily between shoulder and hand.

The Dior Bow bag is offered in small and medium sizes and appears in smooth, metallic and crinkled leathers, as well as embroidered versions featuring Buttercup Garden and Dior Clover motifs.

The colour palette ranges from classic black to softer, more optimistic shades such as dreamy pink, tourmaline, buttercup yellow, hermitage and latte white, each finished with the familiar Dior logo.

The Lady Dior also returns this season with a renewed sense of charm. Rather than altering its structure, Anderson focuses on surface and detail, treating the bag as an object of personal meaning as much as one of status.

The Mini Lady Dior Clover is embroidered with four-leaf clovers and finished with a small red ladybug, available in green, black and rose soupir.

The Mini Lady Dior Buttercup is scattered with three-dimensional buttercups in vibrant yellow and accompanied by a tiny bee, one of the House’s enduring symbols. Signature “D, I, O, R” charms complete both designs.

To celebrate a decade of the Lady Dior bag, the French maison invited 10 global artists to reinterpret the iconic accessory through their own creative lens. Here are our top three picks.

Few fashion objects carry the weight of both history and reinvention quite like the Lady Dior. Originally named the Chouchou, the bag was created especially for Princess Diana during her visit to Paris in 1995 as a structured design in quilted black leather adorned with Dior’s gold charms. Upon its debut on her arm, it naturally became an instant icon. Launched in 2016, Dior’s Lady Art project took that legacy into a new era, inviting artists from around the world to reinterpret the iconic accessory through their unique perspective. Over the past decade, 99 artists have reimagined the bag, from sculptural experiments and digital abstractions to painterly reinterpretations that blur the boundary between fashion and fine art.

Now, as Dior celebrates 10 years of this collaboration, 10 new artists transform the Lady Dior once more, exploring light, memory, emotion and materiality. Through embroidery, pearls, paint and innovation, they prove that the bag is not just timeless but ever-evolving. To mark the Dior Lady Art project’s milestone, the luxury maison has also released a new book of the same name. Featuring more than 250 reinterpretations of the Lady Dior bag by 99 contemporary artists, the volume captures the dialogue between fashion, art and craftsmanship that has defined the project since its launch and celebrates the bag’s artistic evolution.

Jessica Cannon

Known for her ethereal studies of light and spiritual landscapes, Brooklyn-born painter Jessica Cannon brings a celestial vision to life across three luminous interpretations of the Lady Dior that seem to shimmer between sea and space. Each bag orbits around a glowing focal point – a sculpted sun, moon or planet – rendered in mother-of-pearl and surrounded by delicate beadwork that mimics the rhythm of waves. On one, muted pastels meet flashes of acid blue and iridescent green, giving the piece a vibrant aquatic energy. On another, a pearlescent shell spiral unfurls into lustrous crystals, with all displaying an incredibly intricate level of craftsmanship.

Marc Quinn

British visual artist Marc Quinn returns to the Dior Lady Art project a decade on, pushing boundaries with a collision of science, symbolism and luxury. He has created five unique designs: from Christian Dior’s own fingerprint transformed into gilded reliefs of varying sizes, to AI-generated human irises derived from a program trained on Quinn’s original iris paintings. Two other designs revive his signature orchid motif. Together, they blur the boundaries between craftsmanship and code.

Alymamah Rashed

Kuwaiti artist Alymamah Rashed’s two designs for Dior explore identity through landscapes rendered in intricate embroidery. One mimics the textures of the Failaka Island shoreline on the coast of Kuwait, glimmering with pearls and sand-like beading; while another blooms with Kuwait’s humaith flower. Each piece features an enamel eye and a poem hidden inside the lining – a message visible only to its owner.

Badet explores her connection with hosting, sharing that she “loves showing friends different things — from the produce [she] cooks with to the table setting and art pieces. These moments mean more to me than anything.”

Before the night arrives, Badet’s to-do list includes a mental rehearsal of the meal to ensure her guests will have everything they need. Her approach to hosting has been shaped by her Swiss upbringing and passion for curating a flavourful seasonal menu.   

Badet shares that her “grandmother was a good example — she always paid attention to writing an invitation and cooking something that suited the season or the occasion,” a lesson Badet carries with her today.  

The Table Touches

Dressing the table is an art form, and for Badet, each design choice is deliberate. Her holiday table combines white porcelain with textured sterling silver, while vibrant pops of colour come from crimson tapered candles, clove-studded oranges, and her signature radishes cut into floral arrangements — all displayed in the sculptural heritage Georg Jensen Grape bowl. 

Badet’s menu consists of seasonal specialities from her home country, including an appetiser of Tête de Moine cheese and wonderfully fragrant red wine poached pears, both served on grooved white porcelain dishware.

For Badet, hosting is as much about looking the part as it is about the meal or table setting she’s prepared. She opts for simplicity in her ensemble, pairing an understated outfit with a collection of fine jewellery. There are few handbags that can be traced so precisely to a moment in time, to a single, sculptural silhouette that captures the sensibilities of both fashion and architecture. The Whitney Bag by Max Mara is one of them.

Launched in 2015 to celebrate the opening of the new Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Whitney Bag emerged from a dialogue between Max Mara’s creative team and the Renzo Piano Building Workshop.

It was an unusual yet quietly thrilling pairing: a heritage Italian fashion house known for its rigorous tailoring and devotion to craft, and one of the most revered architectural firms in the world. Now, a decade on, the Whitney Bag has become a mainstay; no longer just a limited-edition design object, but a symbol of enduring elegance.

To mark the bag’s 10th anniversary, Max Mara is releasing a commemorative collection in fresh colours and sizes, alongside a series of immersive installations in global flagship stores. At the centre of it all is Maria Giulia Prezioso Maramotti, Max Mara board member and scion of the founding family.

“The beauty of this long-lasting partnership lies in our shared values,” she tells marie claire, referring to the Whitney Museum’s founder, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, a patron of contemporary art and a visionary woman. “Her support of young New York artists mirrors Max Mara’s philosophy.

We have always championed women: creative women, working women, thinking women.” The bag itself is an ode to the museum’s striking façade: modular and ribbed, angular yet soft. “Architectural elements expressed in rigorous lines – this is what connects the Whitney Bag to the Max Mara DNA,” explains Maramotti. “The same precision you find in our coats, you find in this bag. It is an exercise in harmony.”

Craftsmanship remains key to the Max Mara ethos, and nowhere is that more evident than in the meticulous construction of the Whitney Bag. Each one is produced in Italy, using the highest quality leather, hand-selected and finished with precision.

“It represents everything we believe in as a brand,” says Maramotti. “Design, discipline, and beauty that stands the test of time. Our founder, Achille Maramotti, always believed that clothes should be beautifully made but also beautifully functional.

The Whitney Bag carries that message forward. It is elegant, yes, but it is also made to be worn, to be lived with.” When the bag was first introduced, its status as a limited edition – a collector’s piece – lent it a certain allure. But its lasting appeal was never guaranteed. “We did not expect it to become this enduring symbol,” admits Maramotti.

“But perhaps that’s the beauty of great design. It does not shout. It ages with grace.” Among the anniversary edition’s new hues is a deep burgundy that Maramotti recently wore in Munich, prompting a stranger to stop her and say, “Max Mara is always a good idea.” It’s a telling moment and speaks to the enduring love women have for the brand. “The bag has always allowed us to explore materials and colour in a way that feels experimental, yet true,” she explains.

How To Determine If Gold Jewellery Is Good Quality

There are four terms to know when shopping for affordable gold jewellery that relate the piece’s quality and finish: solid gold, gold filled, gold vermeil and gold plated.
Solid gold is typically the highest quality jewellery you can get. Coming in various grades described as karats—14K, 18K and the highest, 24K—solid gold won’t tarnish.
Gold filled, gold vermeil and gold plated jewellery involves a layer of gold being applied to a cheaper base metal.

What Is The Difference Between Gold Filled, Gold Vermeil And Gold Plated?

Gold Filled Jewellery
Can be either a 925 silver or brass base, gold is pressure and heat bonded (melted or fused) on to the base metal, has a minimum thickness of 3 microns of gold and is water-resistant.
Gold Vermeil Jewellery
Has a 925 silver base, uses electroplating to fuse the gold to the base metal, can be a thickness of 0.1 to 3 microns and is more likely to tarnish over time.
Gold Plated Jewellery
Can be a base layer of nickel, zinc, alloy or brass, uses electroplating to fuse the gold to the base metal, has a micron thickness of less than 0.1 and is quick to tarnish.

Twenty-twenty-five marks a new era of it-bags. Slouchy, oversized totes and office-chic top handles have slowly been taking over the fashion zeitgeist, bringing the days of inconveniently sized mini bags to an end. 

With an emphasis on personal style leading shifting sartorial trends, the dramatic and oversized proportions of 2025’s it-bags fall perfectly in line with the new wave of maximalism. These statement silhouettes, however, are anything but shouty as maximalism is balanced by a desire for timelessness and “investment pieces” spurred on by a cost of living crisis.

A rise in personalisation has also seen bag charms and bags with embellishments–with added courtesy of brands like Miu Miu and Coach–become a trend with staying power. According to Lyst in December 2024, demand for both categories were up 352% month-on-month, a figure we don’t expect to wane into the new year.

I still remember a Saint Laurent Loulou being one of the first designer handbags that stopped me in my tracks as a teenager — worn with the ultimate early 2010’s outfit of skinny jeans, sky-high platform pumps and a statement necklace.

It took a quick search online to find the exact outfit, only to have my eyes water at the realisation that handbags could cost that much.

While my style has evolved since then, I can certainly say that my taste for expensive handbags definitely hasn’t.

Pandora has a new muse. The world’s largest jewellery brand has just announced Australian actress and entrepreneur Maddison Brown as its first official brand ambassador for Australia and New Zealand. 

Brown, 26, is best known for her role as the glamorous Kirby Anders in the CW’s Dynasty, a part that catapulted her into international stardom. But if you thought she was content with just Hollywood lights, think again. After returning home to Australia, she added another television credit to her name with Home and Away.

Now, she’s adding jewellery to her already impressive repertoire. “As a long-time friend of the brand, I’m incredibly proud to continue my journey with Pandora as their first ANZ brand ambassador,” Brown shares. “Pandora’s dedication to individuality, self-expression and sustainability resonates so strongly with me – especially now, as a business owner.”

Her debut as ambassador coincides with the launch of Pandora’s Talisman collection, a striking reimagining of ancient coin-inspired symbols. Designed with texture, storytelling, and a deliberate embrace of imperfection, the collection encourages wearers to “wear the words you live by.”

For the launch of their new high jewellery collections, Van Cleef & Arpels brought their signature sparkle to the Scottish Highlands

If you told me I’d be quizzing King Charles’ head gardener one day on rose and hydrangea hacks in a pair of Wellies, I might’ve laughed. But that’s exactly where I found myself in July: in Scotland, at Dumfries House, the setting for Van Cleef & Arpels’ new high jewellery launch. And yes, I took notes (always ensure you deadhead roses immediately after the first bloom).

The trip marked the global debut of Flowerlace and Fleurs d’Hawaï: two new collections from the Parisian maison that take their cues, as always, from nature. Van Cleef & Arpels doesn’t just like flowers, it obsesses over them. And in this case, the brand brought us to the source: a 2,000-acre estate in Ayrshire, in south-west Scotland, backed by The King’s Foundation, complete with a sprawling rose garden and royal eco-credentials.

Why Scotland? Because Van Cleef & Arpels is now the Principal Patron of The King’s Foundation Gardens and Estates. That includes not just Dumfries House, but also Highgrove and the Castle of Mey. The brand is funding everything from rewilding projects to electric garden tools. It’s luxury with a side of legacy.

“We could have launched these collections anywhere,” Catherine Rénier, Van Cleef & Arpels’ CEO, told me. “But this garden – this very specific rose garden – meant something to us. It’s a way to bring the jewellery garden we’ve created into a real, living one.”

But back to the jewels. Flowerlace is all about lightness: gold petals that look like ribbon, diamonds arranged in soft asymmetry, and a between-the-finger ring that genuinely left me speechless (Van Cleef & Arpels creations tend to do that). The pieces are sculpted using lost-wax casting (read: extreme precision and old-school methods), then polished to an almost blinding shine. It’s the kind of craftsmanship that makes you forget you’re looking at metal and stone – these are works of art.

“Gold becomes the fabric of the piece,” explained Rénier. “That idea dates back to the 1920s and ’30s, when the maison used gold almost like lace to create delicate silhouettes. In Flowerlace, you see that same ribbon effect shaping the flower itself. The inspiration is couture, but the execution is pure high jewellery.”

Each piece in the Flowerlace collection is designed to appear as if it’s moving – petals slightly lifted, pistils shimmering with golden beads and diamonds of varying sizes. The craftsmanship is meticulous. The maison’s gem-setters use prong settings with beaded finishes to create curved, organic lines that catch the light and give each piece a sense of effortless motion. So it’s floral, yes, but also architectural.

Fleurs d’Hawaï, on the other hand, is loud, lush, and full of colour. Think citrine, amethyst, aquamarine, peridot, and rhodolite, cut into generous pear-shaped petals and paired with gold to create tropical-punch florals. They’re big, joyful, and secretly technical. The diamonds in the centre aren’t just there for sparkle: they’re part of a carefully balanced composition that keeps each bloom looking like it grew that way.

Image courtesy of Van Cleef & Arpels. Inspired by the lush vibrancy of a tropical garden, the Fleurs d’Hawaï collection bursts with colour. Gemstone petals, diamond centres and gold foliage come together in pieces that sparkle with organic, blooming energy.

“In Fleurs d’Hawaï, the goal was to make the gold disappear,” said Rénier. “We wanted the petals to look like they were floating. So all the work – setting, protection, structure – is hidden behind the scenes. You only see the colour, the light, the movement.”

For each collection, the maison’s stone department spends months selecting the finest stones – not only for colour but for uniformity and cut – so that each appears completely harmonious. The pistils, composed of seven precisely placed diamonds, are set at the perfect angle to reflect light from every direction. The result? A bloom that looks like it’s swaying in the breeze. The collection also includes three secret watches, where a floral motif pivots to reveal a mother-of-pearl dial surrounded by diamonds.

Of course, nature has long been a source of inspiration for Van Cleef & Arpels. Since the maison first opened its doors in 1906 on Paris’ Place Vendôme – following the marriage of Estelle Arpels and Alfred Van Cleef – flora and fauna have been an enduring wellspring of inspiration. From the wings of a butterfly to a petal in bloom, the brand’s design language is rooted in capturing the vitality and rhythm of the natural world.

Naturally, with that reverence comes technical daring. Van Cleef & Arpels is known for its artistry, but also its innovation. Take the legendary Mystery Set, a signature technique developed in the 1930s that allows gemstones – rubies, sapphires, emeralds, even diamonds – to be invisibly slotted into tiny gold rails with no visible metal. The result is a flawless, velvety surface of colour where stones appear to float in seamless formation. Achieving this effect requires extraordinary skill: each stone must be cut to exact specifications, and completing a single clip can take upwards of 300 hours. Only a handful of artisans in the world are trained in the method, making each Mystery Set piece not only dazzling but very rare.

Or consider the maison’s use of mirror polishing – another signature – where gold is worked to such a high shine it reflects like lacquered glass. It’s a technique that amplifies the light and enhances every angle.

The collections aren’t just pretty (although they are very pretty). They link directly to Van Cleef & Arpels’ heritage. From a 1907 Daisy brooch to the legendary Passe-Partout pieces of the ’30s, the brand has always been about making flowers wearable.

What’s different now is the sustainability story growing around it – literally. The new Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Garden (yes, it has been renamed) is the result of this partnership. It’s free to access, loved by the local community, and now backed by serious sparkle.

“For us, it’s not just about celebrating nature; it’s about protecting it,” said Rénier. “Whether we’re working with gardens, dance, or craftsmanship, the values are the same: creativity, transmission, and legacy. This partnership with The King’s Foundation is about ensuring that beauty – real, living beauty – is preserved for generations to come.”

The gala dinner that night? A floral fever dream. Colourful round tables, botanical arrangements that mirrored the gemstones (yes, really), and a menu with, thankfully, no haggis in sight.

Van Cleef & Arpels could have launched these collections anywhere: Paris, New York, Venice. But bringing us here – to gardens they’re actively helping nurture – was something special. Not just because it’s beautiful (though it is) but because it proved a point. That is, if you’re going to be inspired by nature, you’d better invest in it too.

And Rénier is clear that this isn’t a one-off initiative. “We go where we know,” she said. “Gardens, dance, education: these are areas where we already have a deep connection. Our role is to support and amplify them in a meaningful way. This isn’t a marketing moment. It’s a long-term vision.”

As I left, I looked back at the Rose Garden and realised that this launch wasn’t just about jewellery or a pretty setting. Rather, the famed jewellery house was making a statement. And that is: craft, care, and sustainability aren’t buzzwords. They’re the future of luxury.

Born to Glow

Let’s talk about Fred Samuel. The original sun-chaser. He opened his first boutique in 1936 on Rue Royale (casual), aged just 28. His vision? Less royal tiaras, more Riviera cocktails. He didn’t care for jewellery that sat in safes. He made pieces for women who wore them – on boats, at parties, under the stars. Pearls, colour, and a dash of rebellion. Last Fashion Month, Marie Claire reported how the maximal accessories across the circuit signaled a style shift; fashion was entering an era of accessorizing like heathens. Models toted two bags at once, belts were doubled, and chunky bangles click-clacked in stacks of three.

But the bag charms and random trinkets attached to handbags perhaps represented the industry’s new age of excess best: Fendi dangled leather lollipop holders from baguette bags (perfectly sized for a Chupa Chup), Prada secured colorful button-like mirror compacts to briefcases, Dior leant into good fortune with their talisman-led Lucky collection and Coach clipped ‘I Heart NY’ coffee mugs to carryalls—just in case the models needed a quick caffeine fix as they neared the end of the runway.

The bag charms trend has been percolating for a little over a year. Fashion editors and street style stars first took interest following the July 2023 passing of Jane Birkin, who famously adorned her namesake Hermès bag with various knickknacks, a styling ethos also used in Miu Miu’s charm-heavy Spring 2024 show.

To quantify the bag trend, searches for “bag charms” have spiked 240 percent on Pinterest since 2023 and are currently the highest they’ve been in a decade on Google. But Fall 2024’s indulgent stylings reminded folks that accessorizing handbags doesn’t have to end at charms and keychains—that’s just the beginning. The whole world, including your junk drawer, jewelry box, and shelf of souvenirs and knick-knacks, is yours to play with.

On TikTok, creators call it “Jane Birkinfying” a bag—search the phrase on the platform, and you’ll see videos of women tying scarves to vintage Louis Vuitton Neverfulls and affixing loose Chanel pearl necklaces to purses. Scandi show-goers at Copenhagen Fashion Week Spring 2025 secured rose-motif hair clips and plushy stuffed animals to their handbags. And if you ask the Substack’s style cohort, they’ll tell you that a beaded bracelet belongs just as much on your Bottega Veneta Andiamo bag as it does on your wrist.

For Jalil Johnson, street style swan and author of the fashion-focused newsletter Consider Yourself Cultured, adding jewelry to his handbags is about controlled chaos. “I actually follow Coco Chanel’s famous fashion advice to remove one accessory before leaving the house, and more often than not, that’s a necklace,” says the jewelry aficionado and accessories curator. “To keep [the necklace] close at hand, I use my bag as a catchall. This allows me to incorporate the necklace into my outfit without disrupting the jewelry stack I’ve planned for the day.” How clever?

Primarily, though, Johnson says the styling choice is a window into his unique fashion sense. “First and foremost, the bag charms trend is deeply connected to personal style and remains very much in vogue,” he says. And it makes sense that a more-is-more movement encouraging customization is resonating with the masses. Consumers are feeling increasingly inundated and bored by the fashion trend cycle and seeking out personal touches that help them stand out from the pack—and a felt corgi on a calfskin lanyard certainly does the trick (Interested? Loewe’s is $490). For the crafty DIY-ers, the trend inspires them to pull out the beading kit that they bought during the pandemic and likely haven’t touched since.

There’s also an emotional aspect to a bag charm. As Johnson shouts out, it “evokes a sense of nostalgia, especially since this trend has a distinct Y2K feel” that calls back to the days you tied a Tamagotchi to your tote. And nothing helps fuel a trend more than a dose of style sentimentality (see, for reference, how The Row’s PVC glove flats inspired the great jelly sandal trend revival in the year of 2024).

Plus, embellishing a handbag with trinkets of your choice is an opportunity to carry personal mementos with you throughout your day. You can clip on a charm bracelet that your daughter made at summer camp, or, if you’re really feeling nostalgic, attach an animal-motif keyring that reminds you of your favorite childhood stuffy. Alternatively, you could splurge on a designer bag charm and clip it to your trusty work bag as a moment of in-office joy. The beauty of personalizing a handbag is that the power is in your hands.

Back in 2022, Ariana DeBose gave the world a masterclass in owning a moment. The performer had just won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her breakout role of Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake. Not only had she won, she made history by becoming the first Afro-Latina as well as the first openly queer woman of colour to collect an Academy Award.

Clutching her Oscar, she seized the day, reaching out to the global TV audience with a passionate speech about acceptance: “To anybody who has ever questioned your identity – ever, ever, ever – or you find yourself living in the grey spaces, I promise you this: there is indeed a place for us.”

It was no coincidence that on that Oscar night, along with her custom three-piece Valentino outfit, DeBose was wearing a very specific timepiece, from Omega’s Constellation collection. Known for its celestial motifs and star-inspired design, the Constellation watch served as a fitting metaphor for the star on the rise.

Of course, DeBose is more than just a performer. In an era obsessed with smartwatches, Piaget is having none of it. The maison has made a bold return to a much-loved silhouette that was a cult favourite back in the 1960s. They don’t beep loudly. Or interrupt you mid-conversation. The only distraction is their undeniable beauty. The new series of trapeze watches returns to the wrist with the Sixtie collection, launched at Geneva’s Watches and Wonders in April.

The year 1969 marked a turning point for Piaget and the wider watchmaking world. Staying true to the family vision to “Do what has never been done before”, the original trapeze watches emerged during Piaget’s golden era of audacity, when the family unveiled its boundary-shattering 21st Century collection. Under designer Jean Claude Gueit’s visionary direction, timepieces transcended functionality to become wearable sculptures.

Among these avant garde creations, the trapezoid shape quickly established itself as a cult design. This iconic shape defies convention, mirroring the famous trapeze dress by Yves Saint Laurent. Now, nearly six decades later, the Piaget Sixtie collection resurrects this heritage, and each piece that emerges from Piaget’s Ateliers de l’Extraordinaire channels the rebellious spirit that defined an era when rules existed primarily to be broken. “At Piaget, a timepiece is first and foremost a piece of jewellery,” Yves Piaget famously said, and the Piaget Sixtie collection clearly honours this approach.

Its interlaced trapeze-shaped links gently drape over the wrist, while finely chiselled gadroons on the bezel pay homage to the iconic Piaget timepiece once worn by Andy Warhol (that’s art appreciating art for you). The satin-finished dial is a lesson in restrained elegance. Golden hour markers and baton hands complement Roman numerals.

As always with Piaget, nothing here is accidental and everything is considered. The asymmetrical rounded shape makes Sixtie instantly recognisable across a crowded room.

These timepieces offer something increasingly precious: silent elegance. No vibrations, no alerts, no demands for attention – just exceptional craftsmanship that measures moments rather than managing them.
