A few summers ago, a bias midi skirt paired back with a t-shirt was the warm-weather uniform of it-girls everywhere. But, somethings shifted in recent seasons, and that something is our hemlines.
We heralded in a new era of two extremes: micro mini-skirts (the catalyst of which came in the Miu Miu SS22 runway) and floor-skimming maxis. The latter has had a far more subtle return to fashion forefront.
In 2023, it was denim iterations that took over the style set, but this summer, maximalist shapes, soft flowing chiffons and semi sheer long skirts are what we’re coveting. A quintessential silhouette of the boho trend, we’ve seen the silhouette reprised at Chemena Kamali’s new look Chloé in sheer and billowing styles.
On the Spring/Summer25 runways, Alaïa maxi skirts took on dramatic bubble-hemmed forms, while Prada opted for subtle embellishments on silky, straight cuts.
