I’ve always been intrigued by a fringe, but hesitant to commit. The appeal is obvious; the permanence less so. A haircut you can’t quietly grow out without entering an awkward, forehead-dominating phase.

Enter: the long, lived-in fringe, a style that feels less like a declaration and more like a suggestion, and one I’ve already seen everywhere in 2026.

Miley Cyrus debuted hers at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Ariana Grande followed at the 31st Annual Critics Choice Awards. Daisy Edgar-Jones is currently wearing a soft, sweeping version on set of her upcoming heist film Here Comes The Flood. Consider this less coincidence, more quiet consensus.

Long, lived-in and deliberately undone, this fringe is effortless, feathered and quietly transformative.

The length and density can be customised to suit most face shapes, and it works just as beautifully on fine hair as it does on thicker textures. In other words, it’s forgiving, flattering and refreshingly low-commitment – the holy trinity of modern hair decisions.

Tempted? Here’s what you need to know.

What Is The Long, Lived-In Fringe?

The extra-long fringe may be enjoying a moment, but it is hardly a novelty. In truth, it is one of fashion’s most reliable sleights of hand: a way to recalibrate your look without committing to a full aesthetic overhaul. For decades, it has been quietly favoured by those seeking a considered shake-up rather than a dramatic reinvention. Subtle, yes, but never accidental.

So what defines a long, lived-in fringe? Think of it as a modern offshoot of the butterfly fringe, designed to frame the face without feeling overly considered. It is not boxy or immaculate, never so precise that it looks styled within an inch of its life.

Ideally, it is cut to fall in soft, delicate sections, skimming the forehead and cheekbones rather than forming sharp lines or rigid structure. The emphasis is on texture, movement and air.

The result is framing rather than covering, movement rather than structure, and a finish that feels deliberately undone.

What Face Shape Suits A Long-Lived In Fringe?

The appeal of this style is in its flexibility, with density and length tailored to suit almost every face shape.

It softens the forehead on heart-shaped faces, creates balance on longer face shapes, and introduces movement where it’s needed most. Better still, it works across hair types, sitting just as naturally on fine strands as it does on thicker textures.

How To Style A Long-Lived In Fringe At Home

Styling should be minimal. A quick round-brush blowdry or even air-drying with a touch of texture spray is often all this fringe will need.

For a more separated finish, prep the hair with something lightweight, like Living Proof’s Restore Perfecting Spray before building texture with Living Proof’s Full Dry Volume + Texture Spray to give definition and hold without stiffness.

Rhode Beauty Is Launching In Australia—Here’s When & Where To Buy It https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/makeup/rhode-beauty-australia-shop/ Thu, 08 Jan 2026 22:00:00 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1497704 Powered by glazing milk and hope

Since the very first peptide lip treatment hit shelves complete with matching phone case holder, Australians have been asking when Hailey Bieber’s cult brand Rhode Beauty will launch here.

Now, we finally have our answer with Mecca and Rhode confirming the brand will finally be available to shop here as of February.

When Is Rhode Beauty Coming To Australia?

Rhode Beauty has announced “our complete collection on rhodeskin.com will ship to both countries” that being Australia and New Zealand, from February 12th at 6am AEDT.

A selection of products will also be available to shop exclusively at Mecca. In an Instagram announcement, the brand revealed: “on February 12th, you’ll be able to shop rhode online and at MECCA’s bourke street and george street flagship locations, followed by most stores on February 13th.”

Fans first became convinced that Rhode Beauty would launch in February 2026 following the announcement that Bieber is set to visit Australia.

The 28-year-old revealed she’s coming to our shores in 2026, appearing at the Sydney Opera House for Vogue’s Forces of Fashion talk, making for the perfect opportunity to also launch her label here.

The most viral hint came from beauty creator@livingluxwithmeredith, whose track record for predicting Mecca launches is notoriously strong.

In a video posted late last year, she teased that a “very, very big brand” is coming to Mecca in early 2026, then cheekily added that she’d “forgot her lip peptide” while eating a glazed doughnut.

A felt a little too on the nose? Perhaps. Within hours, TikTok and Reddit were convinced she was talking about Rhode.

Will Rhode Launch Into Sephora Australia?

Following the sale of Rhode Beauty to e.l.f Beauty for US $1Billion earlier this year, the brand launched into Sephora stores as part of its expansion. Does that mean Sephora will house the brand when it finally lands here?

At this stage, Rhode confirmed Mecca as the “exclusive” stockist here in Australia.

Separately, however, the retailer has openly acknowledged the possibility of future expansion. When asked by 9Honey, Sephora confirmed that Rhode is not yet available locally, but added that they “aim to be available in additional countries in the future.”

Why The Most Luxurious Fragrance Flagships Now Feel Like Homes, Not Stores https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/solferino-paris-fragrance-flagship/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 03:02:24 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1501265 Less counter, more character: the new era of fragrance.

The post Why The Most Luxurious Fragrance Flagships Now Feel Like Homes, Not Stores appeared first on marie claire.

There’s a quiet revolution happening in luxury fragrance. Gone are the days of bright, intimidating counters and rushed decisions. Today, discovering a perfume is about slowing down, taking a moment, and letting your senses do the talking. It’s less shopping, more experience and, surprisingly, it can feel a lot like walking into someone’s home.

In the heart of Paris, this philosophy comes to life. Solférino Paris has opened its first flagship boutique at 310 Rue Saint-Honoré, inviting visitors into a world where perfume discovery feels less like shopping and more like stepping into a private Parisian apartment. The Maison’s debut collection of ten eaux de parfum and two candles is designed to be explored at leisure, capturing he city’s energy and its quieter, intimate corners alike — from bustling boulevards to hidden gardens.

Feels Like Home – Parisian Style

Step inside and the boutique immediately feels approachable yet luxurious. Designed by architects Bismut & Bismut, it takes inspiration from the historic mansion at 10 Rue de Solférino, the Maison’s creative home. Parisian cut stone, decorative mouldings, and a chequerboard floor give the space architectural elegance, while warm lighting and plush textures make it feel like a lived-in apartment rather than a store.

At the centre, an elongated fragrance testing counter displays the debut collection like little works of art on a coffee table. Ceramic diffusers and testing strips encourage you to play, explore and find what feels right for you, unhurried. Every detail, from golden lacquer niches to the four-metre mirror creating the illusion of bottles suspended in light, feels considered, comfortable and quietly elegant.

An Invitation To Stay A While

Solférino’s boutique reflects a bigger shift in luxury fragrance, where experience is as important as scent. Perfume is personal, tied to memory, mood, and identity, and today’s fragrance spaces are designed to let that connection happen naturally.

One of the boutique’s most charming features is the Table de Paris, a sculptural map of the city where miniature Parisian landmarks sit among the Maison’s scents. It’s a playful, almost whimsical way to explore Paris through fragrance, and it’s easy to imagine spending longer than intended just wandering through the space, like you would an apartment, taking it all in.

Beyond the main space, a softly lit, deep green velvet lounge area offers a private setting for personalised guidance from Solférino’s fragrance consultants. It’s here that the boutique’s “home” feeling comes into its own: a calm, considered space that encourages you to take your time, linger longer and connect with each fragrance at a personal pace. Turning a quick visit into a slow, sensory experience.

In a city synonymous with perfumery, Solférino Paris’ Rue Saint-Honoré flagship feels both timely and timeless. By blurring the line between home and boutique, it embodies a new vision of haute parfumerie — one where luxury fragrance is discovered slowly, intentionally, and with a sense of personal indulgence.

How To Get Longer, Stronger Hair https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/hair/hair-loss-treatments/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 23:08:32 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500854 Your new growth strategy

The post How To Get Longer, Stronger Hair appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
The hair growth category is surging, as hair loss evolves from a taboo topic into a booming business. In Australia, the hair restoration market is projected to reach $400 million by 2030, growing around 10 per cent a year. Once dismissed as a concern solely for men or post-partum women, thinning hair is now being recognised among younger generations.

“Up to 90 per cent of men and nearly 50 per cent of women will experience some form of hair loss in their lifetime,” says Dr Michele Squire, scientist and founder of Qr8 Mediskin, adding that the emotional impact can’t be underestimated. “In one study, 40 per cent of women reported marital problems and career difficulties they attributed to hair loss.”

Christopher Chu, Aveda’s head of education, says, “Frequent heat styling, tight hairstyles and chemical processing can weaken hair.” Pollution, hormones and even weight loss can also play a role.

All that considered, it’s safe to say that the hair-growth industry will continue to, well, grow. Here’s what’s new and what’s next.

Scalp In Focus

“Think of the scalp as the soil from which your hair grows,” says Chu. “Supporting the scalp’s health with revitalising treatments helps create optimal conditions for healthy hair growth.” Brands like Aveda, Nioxin and Typebea are using biotech-powered complexes and actives to fortify and aid hair strength.

Try: Aveda Miraculous Oil High Shine Hair Concentrate, $64. Nioxin Hair Booster Serum, $121, at adorebeauty.com.au. Typebea G1 Overnight Boosting Peptide Hair Serum, $80.

“More than 50 per cent of hair can be lost before thinning becomes visible”

Daily Dose

Supplements aimed at supporting strand strength are increasingly popular, helping to tackle deficiencies linked to excessive shedding. While not a quick fix, they can work to address underlying issues such as low iron, zinc or vitamin D – all linked to poor hair quality and increased breakage. Many formulas include collagen to support growth from the inside out. “Nutritional deficits are a major contributor, particularly for women,” says Squire. However, she adds, “prevention lies in early identification and consistent, evidence-based treatment”.

Try: Bouf Flouf Factor Growth Supplement, $39.95. Always read the label and follow the directions for use.

Aveda Miraculous Oil High Shine Hair Concentrate, $64. Calecim Professional Advanced Hair System, $550. Nioxin Hair Booster Serum, $121, at adorebeauty.com.au. Typebea G1 Overnight Boosting Peptide Hair Serum, $80.CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet, $1159. Bouf Flouf Factor Growth Supplement, $39.95

Let’s Get Clinical

For those wanting professional support, in-clinic options are evolving rapidly. Microneedling and platelet-rich plasma treatments can help stimulate dormant follicles, while prescription platforms like Qr8 Mediskin offer personalised formulas supported by doctors. “It’s a luxury- medical hybrid,” Squire explains of Qr8. “Precision care, plus safety and convenience.” She also emphasises the importance of early intervention. “More than 50 per cent of hair mass can be lost before thinning becomes visible, so seeking help as soon as possible is essential.”

Try: Qr8 Mediskin hair regrowth; qr8mediskin.com.

Turn On The Lights

As Chu notes, hair health is now viewed as an extension of self-care, as technology offers more options. Light therapy has moved from the clinic to at-home devices for skin and, more recently, hair and scalp, with LED helmets and combs using low-level light therapy to stimulate follicles and improve hair density. But while a high-tech device for daily use is appealing – particularly for the time-poor – results rely on consistent use, so be realistic about your time commitment.

Try: CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet, $1159.

Hormone Shifts

Shedding can ramp up during life stages such as perimenopause and menopause. “A decline in estrogen and progesterone can make hair follicles more sensitive to DHT, a hormone known to shrink and weaken follicles,” says colourist Simon Bright of Sydney’s Jonny & June salon. Bright uses the six-week Calecim Advanced Hair System program, which employs stem cell ingredient PTT-6.

Try: Calecim Professional Advanced Hair System, $550.

The post Renowned Makeup Artist Isabella Schimid On Her Journey With Vitiligo appeared first on marie claire.

Renowned makeup artist Isabella Schimid talks about staying confident in an industry driven by looks, her journey with vitiligo, and how pink hair became her identity. Here’s her story,

Skin has always fascinated me, the way it responds to products, to touch, the way it can glow in a photo. At 19, I was already working as a skin therapist. I had found my calling.

But I also loved makeup.

In The Beginning

My first boss was Nerida Joy, now one of the most celebrated facialists in Los Angeles. Nerida had moved to LA from Sydney, so I went over and worked in her spas. It was a great way to gain a deep knowledge of skin and how it responds.

Nerida knew how much I loved makeup, so she encouraged me to lean into it more. Her encouragement changed everything.

I did a makeup course and started working in film and television. I loved the alchemy of transformation, and how makeup could help bring a character to life. The importance of continuity; it all really thrilled me.

But film and television demand your life: the hours are very long and you have to be available all the time. When I had children, especially once I had my younger son, I knew I couldn’t keep working the way I once did; I wanted to be more present for them.

The Move Into Editorial Makeup

Editorial makeup came to me almost by accident. A photographer friend, Nick Scott, suggested we “test” together. Testing is an industry term where you get a team together – photographer, stylist, hair and makeup – to create images for your portfolio. The process allows you to be more creative. There are no clients and no briefs so you can push things more. Then I went with Nick and his girlfriend to Hong Kong to build our portfolios. I came home with this amazing book and got my first agency contract. Just like that, I had stepped into the world of fashion.

I’ve now been in this industry for more than 25 years. And through all of it – the shifts in technology, the changing faces – one thing has remained constant: I’m still obsessed with skin.

Isabella Schimid at work as a highly in-demand editorial makeup artist. All pictures supplied by Isabella Schimid,

A Beauty Junkie At Heart

I am, unapologetically, a beauty-product junkie. My garage is full of creams, serums, foundations, powders, lipsticks and palettes. Some of it I’m gifted, but much of it I buy myself. Curiosity has always been my driver. I want to know what’s out there, what’s working. I want to touch it, work with it and see how it performs on skin. Some products that I swore by 10 years ago would never make it into my kit now. Technology and ingredients improve, formulations adapt and expectations shift. Lighting and cameras have changed too, and there is a demand for skin that looks like skin, not like makeup.

Embracing Change

You have to evolve in this job. That’s what I love about it; it’s definitely never boring. I love a beautiful model and I love being part of creating a beautiful image. I’m still obsessed with making sure the skin looks the best I possibly can make it.

People ask me if being surrounded by perfect faces makes me feel insecure, but it doesn’t. Maybe when I was younger I may have compared my face or my body. But age and experience have given me confidence.

You can be working with the most beautiful woman you’ve ever seen, but her insecurities can still be there. Sometimes you can touch a person, and it starts to come out. In many ways, I don’t feel uncomfortable because these people rely on me so much in that moment.

Becoming A Mother

Motherhood has taught me resilience, too. My daughter is now 23, my son is 15. In the early years, it was a constant juggle of shoots, travel and looking after the children. My parents helped me in those years and were always so supportive of my career. We have found a new rhythm now. My husband has stepped into the role of stay-at-home parent – I supported him for years and now he is happy to support me.

It has helped me push my career forward. I’ve already worked in six countries this year alone. I get to travel, to work, to do what I love, then come home to a family that loves and supports me.

Going Pink

I’ve had pink hair for 14 years now. After I had my son, I started going grey. I thought, “Why not bleach it? Why not have a little fun?” At first the pink was just playful, but then the colour started to become part of me. It softened my complexion, distracted from my vitiligo, and gave me an edge. Honestly, it also made me feel a bit cool.

Over the years, the pink has become part of my identity. Sometimes I wonder if I should go blonde again or let the greys grow out, but then I look in the mirror, see the pink and think, no, this is me.

Living With Vitiligo

My vitiligo arrived after my first pregnancy. I already had Hashimoto’s, a thyroid condition, and pregnancy triggered another autoimmune reaction. That trauma created these tiny white patches all over my body.

Vitiligo is when the melanin in your skin stops producing, so your normal skin colour starts to lose the pigment. Over time, it spreads. My hands are now completely white. Other parts of my body are mottled; interestingly, the patterns on my legs and arms are almost identical.

It was a shock at first. With this disease you just don’t know how it will progress. Looking in the mirror, I just saw all this discoloration and unevenness. But I realised it wasn’t going to kill me. It wasn’t dangerous. It was just part of me.

I started to accept it. Then I began to embrace it. People even tell me it suits me, which used to make me laugh. It’s unique and a point of difference, almost like a tattoo.

Loving The Skin We’re In

I do have to be cautious. I wear SPF every day and can’t use harsh actives. Instead, I focus on glow. I use LED, microcurrent, massage, good skincare and an at-home laser that helps my skin look healthy. I can’t restore the pigment, but I can make my skin look alive – that works for me.

The key is to listen to your own skin, find ingredients to answer your concerns, and be diligent. And prep is everything. I never prep two models the same way. Skin is individual. It deserves to be treated that way.

Looking back, I’m grateful I studied skin therapy. It’s the best foundation I could have had. Understanding skin at its core, knowing how to treat it, how it behaves – that knowledge has shaped everything I do.

How To Fake 8 Hours Of Sleep https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/skincare/fake-8-hours-of-sleep/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 22:53:59 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500773 (Even when you have had much less.)

It’s called beauty sleep for a reason. But if you can’t always get what you want (or need), here are some other ways to look like you’ve just bounded out of bed

Look After Your Skin

Actual sleep will help get skin glowing. But if you have burnt the midnight oil, the next best way to look fresh come morning is to get gleaming with skincare. Here are fast fixes and sustained complexion strategies for radiant skin.If you’ve burnt the midnight oil, the best way to look fresh is skincare.

Right Now

Wash Your Face With Cold Water In The Morning.

Just as effective as rubbing your face with ice cubes, “this improves blood circulation and lymphatic flow, whilst reducing inflammation, puffiness and redness”, explains Jocelyn Petroni, facial advisor for La Mer Australia. “It feels like a mini facelift every morning, refreshing without freezing.”

Her tip: keep a jug of water on standby in the fridge.

Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream, $94. Lanolips 12 Hour Overnight Lip Mask, $19.95;

Layer On Lip Balm.

Apply a generous amount and let it soak in overnight. Then when you wash your face the next morning, “submerge your lips in water for a few seconds before gently rubbing away the excess – the balm rolls off with all the dead skin cells for smooth, pink and bright lips.”

Jump In The Ocean.

“A sunrise swim cures even the worst sleep deprivation as the ocean’s minerals and salts holistically rejuvenate your skin and being,” says Petroni. Not seaside? “Splash your skin with a hydrating toner that contains all the goodness of the ocean.”

The Long Game

Invest In A Shiatsu Facial

Inspired by the Japanese massage, the facials “stimulate energy paths and acupressure points on the face, neck and head, helping release tension, improve circulation and detoxify skin for a more radiant and youthful appearance”, says Petroni. No pain, all gain.

Repair Your Moisture Barrier

The easiest way to do it: layer a lipid-rich or deeply calming formula over the top of your AM/PM moisturiser.

“Sounds simple, but physically retaining water and super-saturating your skin with compatible oils is the quickest way to repair and strengthen your hydro-lipid skin barrier,” says Petroni. “The long-term benefits are endless – and glowing skin is inevitable.”

Face Gym Multi-Sculpt Gua Sha, $96; La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+, 100ml, $42.95.

Pre-party prep

Whether the invite arrived a month ago or landed in your inbox just last night, here’s how to put your best face forward.

Two Weeks Before

Sylfirm X Advanced RF Needling at Silk Laser Clinics, from $449

Straight from South Korea – a nation forever doing cool things in skincare – this next-gen microneedling device utilises dual-wave technology, with both continuous and pulsed radio-frequency (RF) energy, so it can tackle pigmentation and tightening at the same time, and deliver results in fewer sessions.

The ultra-fine needles have an adjustable depth and can go as shallow as 0.3mm, making it ideal to treat delicate areas, like around the eyes; plus, they’re gold-tipped, which can help disperse the RF energy more evenly for better results, and makes it more suited to sensitive skin types. If you weren’t already sold, it also promises less discomfort and downtime.

This product is only available in clinic and is not available for purchase by the general public.

One Week Before

Mesoestetic Perfect Day Treatment, from $280 (60 minutes)

The accumulation of dead cells on the skin’s surface interferes with the reflection of light and dulls your glow. But this peel makes quick work of that.

It features the usual double-cleanse, mask, moisturiser and sun protection, but it’s the second step that does the work: a professional-strength pre-treatment solution and treatment ampoule is customised to your skin and goals, so the therapist will either apply and leave alone for a bit (beginner), rub in with gauze (intermediate), or rub in with gauze and add some microneedling (advanced).

Post-facial day peeling is not unusual, so ensure there’s enough time before your event. After the shed, expect hydrated, plump skin.

Day Before

Vanessa Megan Golden Hour Facial, from $260 (75 minutes)

Fun fact: as a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, gold can help soothe stressed skin and stimulate circulation – a win-win for luminous skin.

Following a double cleanse and gentle exfoliation, the brand’s Auric 24k Gold Serum and Nature’s Elixir Oil are layered on, before sheets of gold leaf are placed over the top (open your eyes at this point and sneak a peek, it’s so luxe!), and the whole thing is worked in with a face and décolletage massage. Heaven.

On The Day

Don’t underestimate the power of a sheet mask to impart instant dewiness. Kick things up a notch and double mask: apply an eye mask before layering a face mask over the top, then hang tight for five while they do their thing.

The Modern Way To Wear Glitter https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/how-to-wear-glitter-adult/ Wed, 17 Dec 2025 06:03:13 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500755 It's glitter, but grown-up

The post The Modern Way To Wear Glitter appeared first on marie claire.

Forget festival sparkles and chunky, unforgiving flecks, glitter has officially grown up – and it’s now the shimmering crown of the season’s makeup statements. Here’s how to wear it

Wet-Look Lids

Glitter reads as chic rather than childish when placement is strategic. “A soft, subtle sparkle through the centre of the eyelid or in the inner corner can create a wet, multi-dimensional effect,” says Ocea McKenzie, MAC education manager for Australia and New Zealand.

Her trick? Press loose glitter on with a firm, dense brush, then lock it down with a setting spray. McKenzie rates the MAC Reflects Glitter in Pearl, as the shimmer looks glossy instead of glitzy (yes, there’s a difference).

Inner Light

If you want to test-drive glitter, start subtly. “Choosing just one feature will make it a highlight without overpowering the entire look,” says Make Up For Ever Pro Collective Artist Karyssa Leigh.

Her go-to is a dusting of ultra-fine pigment over the tear duct for an almost imperceptible glint. Leigh suggests the brand’s Star Lit Diamond Powder in white silver or white gold are flattering across skin tones for a refined twinkle.

Graphic Glitter

For those who favour a classic cat’s eye, swapping black liner for glitter is an updated twist. “Glitter winged liner is modern and wearable – pick a focal point and commit,” says Leigh.

Use a liquid glitter formula for precision, tracing just above the lash line and finishing with a flick at the outer corner. It’s playful yet elevated, and perfect for the party season, especially in gold or champagne tones.

“I’m a more is more kind of girl, so you’ll never have to twist my arm about glitter”

MAC’s Ocea McKenzie.

Make Up For Ever Artist Color Crayon Multi-Use Stick in Starfire Gold, $57, at Sephora. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Ruby Shimmer, $59. Chanel Les 4 Ombres Boutons in Boutons Baroque, $144. Mecca Max Eye Max Shimmer Gel Eyeliner in Bronzite, $25.

Twinkle Tips

According to McKenzie, “Glitter on the skin feels more festive, but a glittery nail can look effortlessly cool and elevated.”

Whether it’s a sheer shimmer veil over neutral polish or dense sparkle delicately placed across every tip, there are a multitude of sophisticated ways to add dazzle to your digits. For a trend-led take, consider negative-space glitter tips or a glazed manicure layered with ultra-fine shimmer.

All-Over Glimmer

Glitter needen’t stop at the eyes. “Grab your favourite liquid or powder highlight and wash it over collarbones and shoulders,” Leigh suggests.

Mix pigment into body oil or moisturiser to transform any hydrator into a luminous veil, or tap the same shimmer onto cheeks to dial up the glow. For a more natural finish, choose balms, sticks or creams to create a dewy sheen rather than full sparkle. Make Up For Ever’s Color Crayons are a no-brainer if you’re after mess-free application for eyes and cheeks.

Soft Shimmer

Yes, minimalists can still play with glitter. “A fine glitter can catch the light in the most delicate, unexpected way,” says McKenzie.

Leigh is partial to Make Up For Ever’s Star Lit Diamond Powder dusted over a soft brown shadow – “a magical moment,” she says. Apply sparingly with finger or fluffy brush for an incandescent finish that feels polished and wearable for any occasion.

Morphe Python Code Eyeshadow Palette, $26, at Mecca. Half Magic Glitterpuck Multi-Use Pressed Fairy Dust in Dopamine Sparkle, $51, mecca.com. Dior Addict Lip Maximizer in Sunlit Amber, $65.

High-Key Sparkle

From smudgy metallic lids to full-impact reflective pigments, glitter is swinging back towards fearless expression.

“Personally, I’m a more is more kind of girl, so you’ll never have to twist my arm when it comes to glitter,” says McKenzie with a laugh.

Leigh notes the resounding impact of brat summer on party makeup.

“We’re seeing more ‘unpolished’ makeups in the spotlight – smudgy liner with washes of colour, including glitter, especially metallics.”

Whether it’s a single saturated shade or a complex, multidimensional finish, this look is unapologetically party-ready.

During the Holiday season is the perfect moment to change up your makeup routine. Whether that is with a hit of high-drama colour, some glow-making glossiness or a sprinkling of sparkle, these looks using Dior Beauty’s Holiday Makeup Collection will add all the right amounts of glamour to the festive season.

Turn Up The Heat

Burnished shades of red and terracotta give the festive season instant frisson. Work them on eyelids and extend under lashes in a soft block of colour to give the smoky eye a warm and elevated feel. A subtly sparkled lip will add just the right balance and definition.

Turn Up The Heat: All makeup by Dior Beauty. Diorshow 5 Couleurs Limited Edition eyeshadow palette in Fiery Circus, $127; Rouge Dior Sequin Liquid Duo Limited Edition lipstick in Spectacular Nude, $79; Diorshow Overvolume 24-Hour Extreme Volume mascara, $69. Leo Lin top, $649; Reliquia Jewellery earrings, $159.

Silver Linings

Twinkling metallics and sheeny texture are so appropriate for a night out during the party season. Make a statement of it with gleaming eyes that look elevated but smudged and artfully placed to avoid appearing contrived.

Silver Linings: All makeup by Dior Beauty. Diorshow 5 Couleurs Limited Edition eyeshadow palette in Plum Parade, $127; Rouge Dior Limited Edition lipstick in Circus fini satin, $79. Christian Dior blouse, $3800, and Tribales earrings, $1100.

Fire Starter

Nothing says festivities better than a statement red lipstick, perfectly applied. Dior Beauty’s iconic 999 shade gets a seasonal update with embedded sequins, which come to life when you press your lips together. Because who doesn’t want a little magic for the holidays?

Fire Starter: All makeup by Dior Beauty. Rouge Dior Limited Edition lipstick in 999 fini velours, $79; Dior Vernis Limited Edition nail polish in Gold Circus, $51. Christian Dior dress, $23,000, Tribales earrings, $9700, and Lumière de rose ring, $1100.

Ready For Romance

Dusty shades of rose feel both feminine and festive – and oh so perfect if love is in the air. Keep eyes, lips and cheekbones in the same rosewood tone and blend to a blurred prettiness.

Starry Night

For a clean, fresh look, try a hint of pearly sheen on lids and lips, and a dusting of gold-flecked highlighter on cheekbones for warmth. It’s perfect for a sunset soirée.

Starry Night: All makeup by Dior Beauty. Dior Forever Glow Maximizer Limited Edition highlighter in Abracadadior, $83; Rouge Dior Limited Edition lipstick in Crystal fini sparkle, $79; Dior Forever Glow Luminizer Limited Edition in Dior Star, $112.

Sugar Plum

If ever there was a moment to extend yourself in the colour stakes, it is now. Notes of purple, plum and silver add fun and drama in equal measures. Sweep the shade out to the edges for a soft and smoky winged shape that’s defined at the inner corners with flecks of shimmering metallic.

Is Our Skin Really Smart? https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/skincare/cle-de-peau-beaute-at-david-jones/ Wed, 17 Dec 2025 05:40:27 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500613 One luxury beauty brand believes our skin has the ability to learn, adapt and thrive.

The post Is Our Skin Really Smart? appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
There’s a luxury beauty brand that believes our skin has the ability to learn, adapt and thrive – and it has just landed here with some serious A-list backing.

We investigate whether it lives up to the hype

Skin Intelligence

Beauty devotees who once generated thousands of flyer points to get their hands on Clé de Peau Beauté can now add to cart here. Previously, they’ve had to stock up in Tokyo, Paris or New York, but this month the luxury skincare and makeup line launches exclusively at David Jones (starting with Chatswood in Sydney and Bourke Street in Melbourne), bringing with it its signature philosophy of skin intelligence.

Confused about how skin can have inbuilt smarts? The brand invites us to think of it like this: our skin has the ability to learn, adapt and repair itself when given the right tools in the way of ingredients.

Owned by Japanese powerhouse Shiseido, Clé de Peau Beauté (French for “the key to skin’s beauty”) is built on innovation surrounding research into skin intelligence. Rather than seeing skin as a passive surface, scientists at Clé de Peau regard our outer organ as capable of not only recognising stressors but also distinguishing between good and bad stimuli.

“We believe the skin is very clever,” says Kiyoshi Sato, chief technology officer of the company’s lab. “It has the innate ability to distinguish negative conditions to maintain optimum conditions for itself and thrive. We take luxury and we combine it with disruptive science to help the skin cells self-optimise.”

Cle de Peau Le Serum is the brand’s cult favourite product.

How To Train Your Skin

It’s this duality of a highly scientific approach paired with sensorial luxury that sets Clé de Peau Beauté apart. “Think of it as your complexion’s personal trainer,” says Nancy Thong, regional brand director at Shiseido for Clé de Peau. “It awakens your skin and conditions it to its best performance so it can protect itself and boost that defence mechanism.”

The Serum, the brand’s hero product that acts as a prelude to all other products in the collections, is a good example of this. The clear, featherweight formulation is rich in ingredients such as lily concentrate, lemon myrtle and a kelp complex to help awaken the skin’s innate potential, improving moisture levels and supporting barrier function in as little as seven days, all while feeling like a deeply luxurious moment of self-care.

Feel The Luxury

“Every detail of our products, from the texture to the packaging, reflects the highest standards of craftsmanship, beauty and luxury,” says Mizuki Hashimoto, Clé de Peau Beauté’s chief brand officer, who sat down with marie claire in Los Angeles. “It’s a harmonious celebration of science and luxury.”

Makeup Artists love the Cle de Peau Concealer.

Its unique DNA stands the brand in a category of its own. “It blends the French elegance, with its global language of luxury, together with a strong heritage of Japanese culture, which encompasses science, meticulosity and attention to detail,” says Nicolas Baudonnet, chief marketing and business officer. “Those two things together create a brand that is special.”

Enlist An Expert

Experiencing a brand is key to truly leaning in, and Clé de Peau Beautés arrival promises not only decadent product but also luxury service. David Jones will host extensively trained Clé de Peau Beauté specialists inside high-spec treatment cabins to deliver indulgent facials. These treatments, one for radiance and renewal, the other for lifting and sculpting, combine lymphatic massage, micro-circulation stimulation and cutting-edge skincare (of course).

Fronting the global campaign is Nicole Kidman, a longtime fan of the brand who says the alignment was simple: “I use it,” Kidman tells marie claire at the Maybourne Hotel in LA. “I use the La Crème and I use The Foundation. My makeup artist put me onto it. My skin has completely changed.”

Cle de Peau Beaute La Creme is a favourite of Nicole Kidman.

A-List Backing

Says Baudonnet, “Radiance is not just what you see on the surface, it’s what comes from within. Nicole embodies the philosophy that we have on radiance, not only how she looks but how she is as a person. She is confident, she is elegant, but she has also championed meaningful causes that help women.”

Kidman is a goodwill ambassador for UN Women, a role that aligns perfectly with Clé de Peau Beauté’s long-standing partnership with UNICEF, which supports girls’ education in STEM and encourages young women to find confidence through learning.

Of course, no luxury line would be complete without striking packaging. The crystal-cut jars, luminizing palettes and gem-lidded serums are the stars of the collection, all refillable and designed to be as sustainable as they are beautiful. From the newly reformulated La Crème night treatment – a jewel in Clé de Peau’s crown, formulated with more than 60 ingredients and what Sato describes as his career’s work – to the cult-followed The Foundation, this is tactile product to covet.

Above Nicole Kidman became global ambassador for Clé de Peau Beauté in July.

Skin intelligence makes sense when you drill down to the meaning behind it: giving skin the best environment for it to feel strong, make good decisions and flourish. Just like the girls supported by UNICEF can do when given the right support. As for Australian beauty lovers? We too are about to gain a new way to glow from within.

Katy Perry knows how to look killer when she steps out (we just have to think back to those date-night pictures of the pop singer and Justin Trudeau when they hard-launched their romance). And her latest campaign with Dolce & Gabbana just confirms it.

We talk to the singer, entrepreneur, philanthropist and Dolce & Gabbana Beauty ambassador after her shoot in Capri about her favourite scent memories, her devotion to her daughter, and paying it forward with music.

On working With Dolce &Gabbana

“I admire the work of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. I love their creative boldness, unmistakable style and connection with their roots, which is evident in everything they do. They built this brand from the ground up, and it has evolved so magnificently over the decades.”

On Capri

“Its beautiful topography is the perfect setting for the most incredible parties, romances, celebrations. There’s so much life and authentic Italian vibes, it’s like the whole of Italy on one small island. I brought my mum and her friend [as I shot the D&G campaign].

“The scent of ocean and salty crisp air take me back to Santa Barbara, where I was born. And the scent of vanilla, which I’ve been wearing since I was 15.”

On What’s Important

“My daughter, Daisy Dove, love and music. First of all, being a mother. And secondly, music changed my life, and I try to pay that forward through the work of my Firework Foundation, which empowers children from under-served communities by igniting their inner light through the arts.

“Music changed my life, and I try to pay that forward.”

Dolce & Gabbana My Devotion eau de parfum Intense, 100ml, $285 is available now at David Jones. Picture: supplied.

On The New Dolce & Gabbana My Devotion Intense

“It’s very luscious and sweet. I’m very particular about my scent, and I’ve never really strayed far from certain ingredients. Devotion is my new elevated version of that cocktail. It felt so authentically me. I felt cosy and sweet and young and delicious. It felt like flirting and falling in love for the first time.”

Ask Sally: Do I Really Need A Primer? https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/makeup/do-i-need-a-primer/ Wed, 17 Dec 2025 05:18:56 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500569 Our beauty director answers your burning beauty questions.

The post Ask Sally: Do I Really Need A Primer? appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Admittedly, I’ve always been a bit hit-and-miss with primer. Some days I reach for it like my life depends on it; others, I skip straight from skincare to a tint or foundation, putting primer in the too-hard basket.

Lately, though, with a crop of new hybrid formulas that blur the line between skincare and makeup, I’ve been wondering: could the primer replace a skincare step or two to help streamline my routine?

Primers Are Back In The Limelight

I only need to flick to my work inbox to know that primers are becoming a regular in beauty routines. And where these skin smoothers were once chock-full of silicons to add a filter-like finish, the new breed firmly adopts the “skincare first” approach. Take the two primers from local brand Go-To. Both the glow-making and mattifying options bridge the gap between skincare and makeup by adding helpful ingredients like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.

Primers are becoming a regular in beauty routines. But do we really need them?

Skin-Smoothing Primers

British brand Isamaya, meanwhile, uses clinical-grade ingredients in its featherweight Microbial primer, which helps support the skin barrier with hyaluronic acid, prebiotics and calming botanicals, while adding skin grip to help set your makeup for the day.

For those seeking to smooth the look of pores and fight blemishes, Glow Recipe’s Strawberry BHA Pore-Smooth Blur Drops ($55, at Mecca) helps even tone and mop up excess oil for a matte finish, while Tatcha’s famed Silk Canvas is a must-have of celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin, who says the added silk powders and extracts help create smoother, glowing looks that last. He regularly does Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s makeup, so he’s not wrong.

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Primer, 40ml, $76. Chanel La Base Matifiante Perfecting Moisturising Primer, $84. Tatcha The Silk Canvas, $93,

Skincare-Dosed Primers

If you drill down, you don’t have to wear a dedicated primer. But you do have to prep your skin before you add makeup, because a tint or foundation (even with added skincare ingredients) on unprepped skin is not going to give thosered- carpet results we see on our feeds. A sheet mask (if you have time), serum and a good moisturiser can prep skin well, no primer needed. Where primers come into their own is when you want a specific outcome: to mattify maybe, minimise the look of pores, or make your base last.

For staying power, L’Oréal Paris Prime Lab 24-hour Matte Setter controls shine without dulling glow. And Chanel’s popular La Base Matifiante mattifying primer uses hyaluronic acid and annatto seeds to help smooth the look of pores and add a satin finish.

For a runway-ready finish (luminous but not shiny), take a cue from makeup artist Filomena Natoli, who used Hourglass’s mineral-based primer (60ml, $129) to create the soft-focus skin seen on Christopher Esber’s S/S 2026 runway. Equally, formulations that feel more cream than primer, such as Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base (50ml, $105) and Glossier’s Priming Moisturizer ($48) help to prep drier skin types so that they feel radiant, hydrated and smooth.

Dior Forever Glow Veil Radiance Primer, $92. Go-To Very Mattifying Primer, $48. Prada Refine Blurring Extending Primer, $110.

Primers That Highlight And Glow

Then there are primers with highlight included. Take Dior’s Forever Glow Veil, which comes with luminous-boosting hibiscus extract to get skin looking so radiant I’m often tempted to skip foundation altogether.

You can also use primer as makeup. Top artist Rae Morris swears by what she calls “reverse highlighting”. Instead of applying primer before foundation, she adds a little afterwards to overly shiny areas. Prada Beauty’s Lynsey Alexander does something similar, patting in the brand’s excellent mattifying primer to add a blurred look to areas that need smoothing. It’s an effective trick that requires little product and helps matte everything down without losing your glow.

So, where do I stand? I’m primer agnostic. Most days, I’m happy to let my skincare do the work. But for a special event, or when I’ll be out from very early until very late, I’ll add in a primer to make my makeup sing.

These Seriously Chic Razors Are The Secret To Your Silkiest Shave Yet https://www.marieclaire.com.au/shopping/best-razors-for-women/ Tue, 16 Dec 2025 03:28:19 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500403 They're turning heads (and legs)

The post These Seriously Chic Razors Are The Secret To Your Silkiest Shave Yet appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
It was not all too long ago that hair removal was the bane of my existence. The realisation that I needed to shave my legs was met with a groan and pondering whether I could survive just one more day before needing to shave.

These days, I’ve felt a switch. Not because of advances in treatments like laser hair removal—although that is an option if you prefer something more long-term—but because brands are launching hair removal kits that feel less like a chore and more like self-care.

The Best Razors For Women, According To marie claire:

From sturdy safety razors to luxe stainless steel sets, today’s razors are as thoughtfully designed as they are functional—while also looking effortlessly cute in your bathroom.

The result? These chic new razors have turned shaving into an indulgent evening ritual—one I genuinely look forward to.

So, we’re here to tell you that it’s officially time to say goodbye to disposable razors and step into a smoother, chicer shaving routine this summer.

Billie Malibu Razor Starter Kit

The Billie Malibu Razor Starter Kit was designed to remove the ‘pink tax’ that women frequently experience when purchasing personal items. This five-blade, ergonomic razor offers the same quality as a men’s razor—while still looking undeniably chic on your bathroom shelf. It features a curve-hugging pivoting head and is dermatologist-tested, making it ideal for sensitive skin, with an aloe surround that ensures a close, comfortable shave.

Bambaw Double Edge Safety Razor

Bambaw offers a Double Edge Safety Razor for both men and women, that is rust-proof, built to last and delivers a smooth, comfortable shave. As this is a metal safety razor, you won’t need to replace the handle—simply repurchase the safety blades as needed. It’s worth noting that safety razors don’t have a pivoting head like most cartridge razors do, meaning there’s a small learning curve. With shorter strokes and the included user manual, the Bambaw Safety Razor will guide you to the perfect shave.

Leaf Shave Razor

The Leaf Shave Razor is a premium razor that allows for a smooth, comfortable shaving experience. Designed to glide effortlessly over the skin, its innovative construction helps minimise skin irritation and razor burn. With a pivoting head, adjustable closeness and triple-blade shave, it’s expertly engineered for a closer, longer-lasting result. One thing to note: the Leaf Shave Razor does not come loaded; however, clear instructions and step-by-step videos are available to show you how to prepare it before first use.

Gem Skin-Loving Shaving Kit

I’ve personally tried and tested the Gem Skin-Loving Shaving Kit, and can confirm it’s a true game-changer. Infused with hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and vitamin E, this five-blade razor is designed to nourish and hydrate the skin while you shave, leaving it feeling soft and smooth with minimal irritation. The weighted handle is also exceptionally comfortable to hold and allows for precision and ease. Hot tip: use with the Gem Skin-Loving Shaving Gel for the ultimate self-care routine.

Nära Shaving Starter Kit

The Nära Shaving Starter Kit contains everything you need to upgrade to a high-quality safety razor experience. Crafted around a solid brass safety razor that’s both durable and stylish, this kit helps reduce plastic waste without sacrificing performance. It includes a rose and geranium scented shave oil with jojoba and castor oils to prep the skin for a smooth shave, plus a blade bank for safe disposal, and fresh stainless steel blades to get you started.

OneBlade Hybrid Razor

Combining the precision of a single-edge shaving tool with the comfort and convenience of a cartridge razor, the OneBlade Hybrid Razor is the best of both worlds. With its ergonomic handle and compatibility with a range of blade types, this razor offers a close, smooth shave while remaining comfortable in hand.

Florie Shave Starter Set

The Florie Shave Starter Set is one I have loved and gone back to time and time again. Featuring a weighted stainless steel handle for precise control, this set included blades that are designed to deliver a close, irritation-free experience. The Silk Shaving Cream is also a standout, with a gorgeous pistachio and caramel scent—the perfect first step for layering your scents and fragrance.

LUI Razor

The LUI Razor by Rebecca Harding is crafted for those who want both performance and elegance in their shave. With five diamond-sharp blades cushioned in vitamin E-rich hydration, it gently glides over skin to help minimise irritation and boost comfort. Its ergonomic, soft-touch grip and weighted handle feel delightful in hand, making each shave feel smooth and controlled.

VIVRE The Premium Razor Kit

Designed with sensitive skin in mind, Vivre’s Premium Razor Kit features five ultra-sharp blades and a smoothing strip infused with chamomile, aloe, vitamin E and other skin-loving oils for a consistently smooth, full-body shave. Finished with a weighted stainless steel handle, it offers effortless control and precision with every use.

What Is The Best Razor For Women?

The best razor for women ultimately depends on your skin type, hair texture and shaving preferences. Multi-blade cartridge razors are a popular choice for their ease of use, while safety razors are a great option for those with sensitive skin thanks to the single blade, which can help minimise irritation and ingrown hairs.
Ultimately, it’s best to look for razors with sharp, high-quality blades, a comfortable grip and features that suit your routine.

What’s The Difference Between A Regular Razor And A Safety Razor?

A regular razor typically refers to a disposable or cartridge-style razor with multiple blades and a pivoting head, designed for convenience and a quick shave. A safety razor, on the other hand, uses a single, replaceable blade housed in a protective guard. This design offers more control and reduces the number of passes over the skin, which can make it a gentler option—particularly for those prone to razor burn or sensitivity—while also being a more sustainable choice long-term.

Louis Vuitton creative director for makeup Pat McGrath talks about launching the makeup collection La Beauté, her dreams coming true, and working as an artist with global phenomenon Lisa, the Blackpink star and Louis Vuitton ambassador

Blackpink’s Lisa for Louis Vuitton La Beauté

When you heard you had been appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton, how did you feel?

That moment will remain one of the most profound and heartfelt emotions of my life. It wasn’t just a career milestone, it was the realisation of a long-held dream. Becoming the creative director for a house as deeply symbolic as Louis Vuitton is something I could never have imagined. From the very first conversation I had with Nicolas [Ghesquière, artistic director for women’s collections at Louis Vuitton] and the LVMH executives, everything felt so natural yet utterly magical. We shared the same creative language, rooted not in chasing trends but in craftsmanship, intention and creations born of the soul. Now, I’m surrounded by a passionate team who inspire me every day, and the fact that I’m trusted completely to create freely makes this journey truly extraordinary. It still feels miraculous.

Within the world of Louis Vuitton, what kind of beauty do you envision?

Louis Vuitton Beauty is not merely about decorating the surface, it’s an experience that evokes emotion and reveals authenticity. I define beauty as “the beauty of emotion”, “the beauty of craftsmanship”, and “the beauty of passion”. Every texture and every hue in our collection must embody innovation, excellence and artistry. To me, beauty is not a tool of perfection but a companion on your life’s journey – something that exists beside you, for you, and within you. True beauty should live not only in appearance but also in feeling and everyday life.

Please introduce the products in the first collection, titled La Beauté Louis Vuitton…

When preparing Louis Vuitton Beauty’s debut collection, I wanted to return to the very essence of beauty. So we focused on two main categories: lips and eyes. The results, LV Rouge, LV Balm and LV Ombre, are not just products but declarations. They embody the timeless elegance and natural, sincere beauty that Nicolas’ designs communicate, beauty that feels effortless yet deeply refined. We thought deeply about how to translate that philosophy into makeup. For us, makeup completes a look, yes, but more importantly it captures the total emotional expression of a face. A soft lip or a powerful gaze – each can tell its own story, or even exist in contrast to one another. The collection itself is a language of beauty that reflects the individuality and modern femininity of today.

What message did you want to convey through this first collection?

This collection is not simply the beginning of Louis Vuitton Beauty, it is about opening a new chapter in the maison’s story. I wanted there to be the same conversation as Louis Vuitton’s garments, bags and perfumes – to be a beauty that lives with that universe. Every texture and the play of light on the model’s skin had to be connected by intentionality and emotion. My hope is that these creations become an effortless part of daily life, natural yet timelessly special, a modern heirloom that endures.

You’ve had a long creative partnership with Nicolas Ghesquière – did that influence this launch as well?

Working with Nicolas always feels like being in the flow of destiny. Our two creative worlds collide and harmonise at once; it’s almost alchemical. Every season, he comes to me with mood boards, sketches and silhouettes, and from that moment the magic begins. I interpret with makeup that doesn’t exist yet, conducting moments that visualise stories until we imagine the ultimate look. What we create together goes far beyond the runway; La Beauté Louis Vuitton extends into a shared emotional experience that reaches far more people.

How did the house codes of Louis Vuitton translate into makeup?

Reflecting the maison’s codes doesn’t mean simply reproducing its symbols or monograms. I wanted to reinterpret Louis Vuitton’s spirit – travel, transformation, and the beauty of adventure – through colour, texture and light. Everything had to feel modern yet timeless, luxurious yet deeply personal. Movement, freedom, discovery – into the language of makeup. The lipstick, for instance, expresses that constant movement and transformation, the freedom to embody your own energy. To me, that’s the purest reflection of Louis Vuitton’s philosophy. We studied the archives, deeply analysed Nicolas’ runway universe, and built a bridge connecting tradition with the modern era. Every texture and colour was crafted with meticulous intention and obsessive precision.

“A single lipstick or eyeshadow isn’t just a product, it’s a chapter that blends into your story, creating an emotional connection that goes beyond visual change” – Pat McGrath

Louis Vuitton has always had a deep connection with beauty. How did that influence this collection?

Louis Vuitton has long understood that beauty is part of a woman’s journey. Back in the 1920s, the maison designed vanity cases – not just practical objects but symbols of elegance and independence. I wanted to carry that same spirit into the present day. So from the lipstick trunks to the eyeshadow palettes and cosmetic pouches, every element of this collection honours that legacy of beauty. It’s not about nostalgia, but reinterpretation, blending functionality with emotion and crafting something that satisfies both the heart and the hand.

In what moments do you think Louis Vuitton beauty products fit best?

I believe makeup is an expression of emotion. It’s not just a tool to complete a look, but a language of feeling. That’s why this collection was designed to resonate with the moods and desires that everyone experiences. With a bold lip colour and a smoky eye, you might feel ready for a dramatic evening, or with a soft tint and neutral tones you might find comfort at the end of a long day. Every product was crafted to glide seamlessly with the rhythm and emotion of its wearer, enhancing their natural authenticity. This, to me, is the true meaning of modern beauty.

“A single lipstick or eyeshadow isn’t just a product, it’s a chapter that blends into your story, creating an emotional connection that goes beyond visual change” – Pat McGrath

Pat McGrath Labs is know for its experimental and extraordinary textures. Can we expect the same from La Beaute Louis Vuitton?

Absolutely. Boldness, experimentation and inclusivity are, to me, the essence of beauty. This collection includes 14 nude lip shades and eight eyeshadow palettes, each designed around three easy-to-use core colours paired with a contrasting accent shade. From matte velvet finishes to golden glitters, there are six textures that can be freely layered and mixed. I was inspired by Louis Vuitton’s Roman numerals, incorporating the number “55” into the packaging, a nod to timelessness. Every element carries layers of meaning, completing a world of deep, sensory beauty.

Blackpink's Lisa for Louis Vuitton La Beauté
Blackpink’s Lisa for Louis Vuitton La Beauté

Many see you not just as a makeup artist but as an artist in the truest sense. How do you define what it means to be an artist today?

Today’s artist is someone who imagines without fear, who refuses to settle in the present and who constantly reinterprets the way we see the world. I’ve never viewed makeup as mere “decoration,” but as a medium – like painting or sculpture – that evokes emotion and transforms reality. True artistry begins with intention. Sometimes the subtlest gesture can be the most powerful, and at other times bold maximalism creates the most striking harmony. What matters most is that your art becomes a true expression of who you are.

What kind of emotion do you hope people feel when they experience La Beaute Louis Vuitton?

I hope people feel that through La Beauté Louis Vuitton they’re not just becoming more beautiful, they’re revealing themselves. It might feel like transformation or a quiet confidence. A single lipstick or eyeshadow isn’t just a product, it’s a page that blends into your own story. This is about creating emotional connection beyond visual change; a dialogue between self-expression, authenticity and timeless beauty. That, I believe, is the true power of beauty.

If a favourite perfume has ever left you wishing for greater longevity, it may be time to consider the quiet overachiever of the fragrance world: the extrait.

Often regarded as the most luxurious form, an extrait contains a significantly higher concentration of perfume oils than a standard eau de parfum, resulting in a scent that is richer, more enduring and noticeably more nuanced on the skin.

Although many fragrances are chosen for their olfactory profile, whether warm, fresh, floral or gourmand, concentration is an equally important factor. Perfume houses classify formulations by the percentage of oil within the blend.

A higher concentration directly enhances intensity, projection and wear time, which is why an extrait is the most compelling option for those who prefer a fragrance that lingers long after they have left the room.

How Do Extraits Differ From Other Perfumes?

The distinction lies in strength. Eau de toilettes are the lightest, often containing around 10 percent perfume oil, occasionally less.

Eau de parfums offer greater impact, typically reaching concentrations of up to 20 percent. An extrait stands apart from both, delivering the most potent and long-lasting interpretation of a scent.

Once you understand what an extrait can do, it becomes difficult to settle for anything less.

The Affordable Moisturiser Beauty Influencers Can’t Stop Talking About https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/skincare/olay-super-collagen-peptide-moisturiser/ Fri, 12 Dec 2025 04:11:23 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500603 Hello, hydration

The post The Affordable Moisturiser Beauty Influencers Can’t Stop Talking About appeared first on marie claire.

Every so often, a beauty product cuts through the noise — not because it’s new, flashy or exorbitantly priced, but because it works. In 2025, that product appears to be Olay’s Super Collagen Peptide Moisturiser, a quietly powerful cream that has gone from pharmacy shelf staple to full-blown beauty phenomenon.

The numbers alone tell a compelling story. The moisturiser has officially claimed the title of Australia’s number one best-selling facial moisturiser, with one jar selling every four minutes. In an industry dominated by prestige price tags and luxury branding, Olay’s rise feels refreshingly disruptive — and beauty influencers have taken notice.

So what’s behind the hype?

At the heart of the formula is 25 times more collagen peptides, engineered with a micro molecular mass designed to penetrate deeper into the skin. The result? Visibly firmer, more lifted-looking skin in just 28 days. Add 99 per cent purity niacinamide, known for strengthening the skin barrier and boosting hydration, and you have a moisturiser that delivers 24-hour moisture while actively targeting sagging and deep wrinkles.

What makes the buzz louder is how confidently this cream holds its own against products priced well into the hundreds. That tension between performance and price is exactly why influencers are rallying behind it. Pia Whitesell, Lindy Klim, Eleanor Pendleton and Lana Wilkinson have all shared their love for the moisturiser online, praising its visible results and lightweight feel. In Australia’s often unforgiving humidity, texture matters — and Olay’s ultra-light formula absorbs quickly, sitting comfortably under makeup and sunscreen without slipping or pilling.

The most compelling part? The price tag. At $69.99, Olay’s Super Collagen Peptide Moisturiser offers results that rival creams ten times the cost, making it a rare crossover hit — beloved by dermatologists, influencers and everyday users alike.

The Head-To-Toe Guide To Firmer, More Radiant Skin https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/skincare/head-to-toe-guide-to-firmer-skin/ Fri, 12 Dec 2025 04:08:54 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1497586 Your all-over rejuvenation routine

The post The Head-To-Toe Guide To Firmer, More Radiant Skin appeared first on marie claire.

From the age of 25, your skin gradually loses suppleness and elasticity. Many studies have shown a significant decrease in collagen production year on year1. While this sounds daunting, there are plenty of ways to help keep your skin looking and feeling plump and firm.

A key factor in creating that fresh, firm skin is hydration. If your skin is dehydrated, it won’t look healthy, firm or bright. And we’re not just talking about the skin on your face; we’re talking about keeping you hydrated, supple and firm from head to toe (all without hitting the gym). Here’s a simple three-step approach to fresher, firmer skin.

Feel Firmer Head To Toe

Plumped Up Skincare Routine

olay regenerist serum and moisturiser

When it comes to keeping your skin fresh, firm and rejuvenated, most of us focus our efforts on facial skincare. Though you may have your daily skincare routine sorted, adding in an ultra-hydrating duo is bound to benefit your routine.

When applying your skincare: the golden rule is to begin with the most lightweight option, then layer thicker, creamier products on top. So, in an ideal routine, start by applying a serum-like product, such as Olay’s Ultra Firming Serum ($69.99 from Chemist Warehouse), perfect for supporting your skin in your plumping endeavours thanks to the inclusion of ingredients such as P coumaric acid (PHCA’s), bakuchiol and collagen peptides.

Once your firming serum has sunk in, layer it with the innovative hexapeptide-formulated Olay Super Collagen Peptides Moisturiser ($69.99 from Chemist Warehouse). Not only is this an ultra-hydrating moisturiser, but it’s also gone viral, and is now Australia’s number one selling facial moisturiser*. And for good reason, with skin lifting benefits like this one is, you’ll want to slather yourself in it morning and night.

Using this power-packed duo can help to visible increase your skin’s firmness and isn’t bouncy hydrated skin what we’re all after?

Refreshing Shower Essentials

olay regnerist firming body wash

To see all-over skin-plumping benefits, switch to a targeted body wash and add a few extra steps to your shower routine.

If you’re not already dry brushing or doing a regular physical exfoliation, this is your sign to start. Both techniques work to boost your circulation (known for being fantastic for supporting skin elasticity and oxygenation levels), along with shedding dead skin (a great way to promote skin cell turnover).

Once in the shower, opt for products that aim to deliver results. Olay’s Niacinamide Body Wash ($24.99 from Priceline) not only washes away the day but, with a niacinamide-rich formula, it will work to hydrate and nourish your skin.

Post-Shower Body Care

olay niacinamide firming body lotion

The key to keeping your skin firm and supple is head-to-toe hydration. Hot or warm showers can strip your skin of its natural oils. So, to keep those hydration levels up, you’re going to need to add a lotion into your post-shower routine.

Similar to your in-shower routine, you want to find a lotion that offers not only incredible hydration but targeted skin-supporting ingredients as well. Olay’s Niacinamide Body Lotion ($34.99 from Priceline) offers a hydrating formula of pro-glycerine, lipids and a vitamin B3 complex (where you’ll find that nourishing niacinamide). And with a lightweight, fast-absorbing formula, this lotion promises to not leave you feeling greasy or sticky.

Take Note Of Atmah Caron Perfume https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/body/atmah-caron-perfume/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 05:32:08 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500174 A fresh take on vanilla

The post Take Note Of Atmah Caron Perfume appeared first on marie claire.

Take Note is your guide to the latest fragrance launches. We unpack the scent, who it’s made for and why it’s worth adding to the collection already on your beauty shelf.

If you think you know vanilla, Caron’s new fragrance Atmah is here to gently (and chicly) prove you wrong. Forget cupcakes and cozy candles; this is vanilla that has gone off-grid.

Artistic Director Olivia de Rothschild looked to the sweeping steppes of Kyrgyzstan for inspiration, imagining a scent that feels like clean air and open horizons. Atmah is vanilla, yes, but lighter, freer, and surprisingly modern. Think silk scarf in the wind rather than sugar in your latte.

The Scent

Atmah’s magic comes from its reimagining of vanilla as something crystalline rather than creamy. Perfumer Louise Turner built the fragrance around a mineral, airy vanilla, supported by Ambrofix for warm radiance and grounded with salty vetiver and woody akigalawood. Pink pepper brightens everything, ambrette adds a soft hum of musk, and touches of tuberose and jasmine give a hint of texture without turning the scent floral. The result is a vanilla that breathes: clean, luminous, and quietly expansive.

The Mood

If you prefer clear skies to crowded rooms, or at least like to smell as if you do, Atmah is your match. It is serene without being shy, perfect for people who move with grounded elegance. Think early-morning walks, soft tailoring, unbothered energy. It works in every season, airy enough for summer and warm enough for winter.

The Shelf

In a curated fragrance wardrobe, Atmah fills the elevated everyday slot. It is the scent you reach for when you want something polished but not performative. It layers beautifully with woods and musks, and even with light florals if you want a bit more softness.

But honestly, it does not need help. It is worth buying because it is the rare vanilla that feels truly new: refined, modern, and quietly unforgettable. Consider it the scent equivalent of finding inner peace, but make it chic.

]]>

Ahead of Chanel’s Couture Métiers d’Art Show in New York, Angèle — Belgian singer-songwriter, House Ambassador, and the face of Chance Eau Splendide — settles in for a beauty transformation focused on bold opulence.

It begins with prep that focuses on hydration. A sweep of La Crème Main melts into her skin, leaving hands soft and poised for the night ahead. A swipe of Sublimage L’Extrait Huile Lèvres follows, cushioning her lips with a veil of hydration that will deepen every shade that comes after.

A radiant base anchors the look. Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation Hydration And Longwear blurs effortlessly across her complexion, while her cheekbones gain soft sculptural dimension using Joues Contraste Intense In Beige Éclatant, applied with the gentlest hand for just a touch of warmth.

It’s the eyes, however, that define the mood: bold, celestial, quietly dramatic. A palette of molten bronze, cosmic plum, and smoked black from Les 9 Ombres In 849 The Space Traveler transforms her lids into an orbit of shadow and shine. Layers of Le Volume De Chanel In 10 Noir finish and thicken the lashes, lifting and framing her gaze.

Her lips are finished in the satiny rose-pink precision of Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue In 174 Endless Pink, a shade that feels both timeless and modern, soft yet assured.

As a final gesture, Angèle reaches for a signature fragrance. A cloud of Chance Eau Splendide Eau De Parfum settles, leaving the skin bright with citrus and airy florals.

Complete, it’s a look that’s elegant, magnetic, unmistakably Chanel — exactly what the Métiers d’Art show calls for.

Jordan Mylius: “Resilience And Mindset Are Everything” https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/jordan-mylius-hairification/ Thu, 04 Dec 2025 10:06:10 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500841 Jordan Mylus, founder of Hairification shares how he created a multi-million dollar company in under two years.

The post Jordan Mylius: “Resilience And Mindset Are Everything” appeared first on marie claire.

]]>

With runs on the board working in the self-tanning industry, Jordan Mylius saw a gap in the haircare market two years ago. He has turned it into a global winner.

He shares with Marie Claire his insights into the beauty business and what it takes to be successful.

Where It Began

When I started Hairification in 2023, my vision was clear: bring the science and results of premium skincare into haircare, and make it accessible to everyone. Accessibility and efficacy are our brand ethos.

Skincare had gone through a revolution: consumers could access proven, active-rich products at all price points. But haircare was lagging. It was confusing, often overpriced, and lacked the kind of efficacy people were starting to expect. I saw a clear opportunity to create a results-driven, science-first haircare brand that belonged on everyday supermarket shelves without compromising on performance or design.

The Brand’s USP

What sets Hairification apart is our ability to merge clinical-grade efficacy with mass accessibility. We use active ingredients at percentages backed by clinical studies and we build efficacious formulations that are free from sulfates, parabens and silicones.

Our H24 Mask became Priceline’s #1 performing hair mask in three months, and we’ve ranked in their top 10 shampoo and conditioner brands in under two years. Consumers trust us because they see faster growth, stronger hair and better scalp health.

Standout Moments

There have been so many pinch-me moments. Launching Hairification nationally in Coles from day one was huge – I went into the meeting with
a concept and samples, and left with a deal. Another highlight is seeing Hairification surpass $20 million in revenue in under two years, making us the fastest-growing haircare brand in Australia.

As was expanding into the UK, Ireland and South Africa, with Europe and the UAE on the horizon. Those moments remind me why the early grind was worth it.

Hairification H24 Complex Hair Repair Blonde shampoo and conditioner, $25 each.

What It Takes To Be A Beauty Founder

Resilience and mindset are everything. Every day I wake up and tell myself Hairification will be a huge success. That mindset keeps me moving forward, no matter the challenges. I’m also naturally curious. It’s that mix of discipline, optimism and constant learning that fuels me.

Best Advice

The best advice is to nail your fundamentals: know your cost of goods, your wholesale margins, your RRP. Without a commercially viable model, it doesn’t matter how good your branding is, you won’t scale. That discipline has shaped every decision we make at Hairification.

I’d tell my younger self to back himself more. At 22, I bought my first salon, and while I was ambitious
I didn’t always realise how much I was capable of. I’d say: take the risk, trust your gut and don’t worry about not having celebrity ties or big financial backers. Hard work, creativity and resilience take you a very long way.

Lessons Learnt

I’ve discovered that I thrive under pressure. The early days were a race against time to hit retailer deadlines, and even now, with global expansion, the stakes are higher than ever. But I’ve learned I can balance calculated risk-taking with resilience, and that
I genuinely love the challenge.

What’s Next

In the immediate future we’ve just launched an H24 Complex Hair Repair Blonde shampoo and conditioner with Priceline exclusively. We’re also extending our hugely popular H24 Complex Repair range with a new conditioner.

The post Is This Silk Pillowcase The Chicest Travel Essential? appeared first on marie claire.

I’ve always believed myself to be a “good sleeper” because I can sleep just about anywhere. And yet, there’s something about sleeping on a pillow that isn’t mine that never feels quite right.

So when I heard about Latravla’s PillowWrap, a travel-friendly silk pillowcase designed to turn any pillow into a clean, luxe sleep sanctuary, my curiosity was piqued.

And after trying it? I’m officially converted.

What sets the PillowWrap from Latravla apart is that it isn’t just a silk pillowcase you toss over a pillow and hope stays put. It has an inbuilt elastic wrap, which grips pillows of all sizes securely—no slipping, no sliding, no waking up with it halfway off your pillow. It transforms even the saddest hotel pillow into something that feels comfortably yours.

Then there’s the hygiene factor. Infused with antimicrobial silver technology, the Latravla PillowWrap actively fights bacteria—a blessing if you’re someone who travels often, deals with allergies, or just can’t stop thinking about how many faces have hit that hotel pillow before yours.

The silk itself is premium 22-momme mulberry, which my skin and hair immediately thanked me for. No morning face creases, and my hair stayed smooth and frizz-free, not matter how often I tossed and turned. It also feels cool on the skin, which is perfect when you’re sleeping in overheated hotel rooms.

LATRAVLA
PillowMask

What really surprised me was how lightweight and compact it is. It rolls smaller than a T-shirt and weighs next to nothing—an easy yes for anyone who likes to travel chic but light.

If you’re the type who packs sheet masks “just in case” or wipes down your tray table the moment you sit down, the PillowWrap feels like the natural next step. It adds a layer of calm and control to the chaos of travel—like bringing a tiny slice of your nighttime routine with you.

And honestly, in a world where good sleep is already hard to come by, why not make it feel this soft and effortless?

In addition to the PillowWrap, Latravla also offers the PillowMask—a luxurious eye mask that blocks out light so you can truly rest. Bundle it with your PillowWrap for a seamless set, or mix and match if that’s more your vibe.

Christmas Nail Art Inspiration

Take Me To…

Subtle, Minimalist Festive Nails

If you prefer a low-key holiday touch, minimalist designs offer just the right amount of cheer. Think soft nude bases with micro-glitter, whisper-thin gold lines, single stars or a tiny accent nail. These styles feel polished and wearable for everyday December dressing

There’s not a makeup brand on the market with more celebrity fans than Charlotte Tilbury. Nicole Kidman has used Charlotte’s Magic Cream to prep her skin for awards shows, Miranda Kerr mixed Matte Revolution shades on her wedding day, and Cynthia Erivo even tapped the brand’s emerald eyeshadow as her signature Elphaba shadow shade on the Wicked press tour.

Not to mention that the cult-classic Pillow Talk pinky-nude lipstick has been buffed into the lips of everyone from Lily James and Amal Clooney to Penelope Cruz and Kate Moss.

Top Picks In The Charlotte Tilbury Black Friday Sale, According To marie claire:

However, whilst rave reviews from celebs may be all too common for Charlotte Tilbury, sitewide sales are not. That’s why when we got word of the 25% off everything Black Friday offer, we knew we had to equip you with a guide to exactly which products need to make it into your repertoire.

It’s what Kidman, Kerr and Erivo (in addition to their many other fellow Charlotte Tilbury fans) would want…

The Charlotte Tilbury Black Friday sale is actually a rather unique offer. Not only does it include 25% off everything (including Charlotte’s Magic Cream, Beauty Light Wands and endless Pillow Talk products), but the brand’s Christmas gift sets are even included.

We’d bet glistening skin, bronzed cheeks and pinky-nude lip tints are all on your summer makeup moodboard, and Charlotte Tilbury’s picks are essential for mastering the glossy, fresh makeup aesthetic that our favourite celebrities keep coming back to.

The Velvety Vitamin C-Enhanced Concealer You Need In Every Bag Just Went On Sale For Black Friday https://www.marieclaire.com.au/shopping/eye-of-horus-black-friday-sale/ Mon, 24 Nov 2025 23:24:18 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1498477 Take it from a frequent purchaser: this is rare

The post The Velvety Vitamin C-Enhanced Concealer You Need In Every Bag Just Went On Sale For Black Friday appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
If you (like most of us) count concealer as one of the things you can’t leave the house without, there’s a certain formula (and sale) you desperately need to know about. We don’t mean that you can’t leave home without wearing concealer, either. We mean you’ve got a tube of it packed into every handbag alongside your cards and keys.

Not because of a lack of longwearing benefits (the one we’re about to tell you about stays smooth and crease-free all day), but because it’s a security blanket for skin. Carry a quality concealer in your bag and you’ll always be assured that you can touch up any makeup mishap on the go.

In an era of skincare-powered makeup, however, we expect our concealers to do more than just temporarily brighten. That’s why we count ourselves as fans of the Eye of Horus Triple C Concealer, which just so happens to be part of a pretty giant Black Friday sale right now.

If you’re not across it yet, Eye of Horus is an award-winning Australian beauty brand designed in Byron Bay, and as anyone who’s scoured the site for a sale previously will know, price drops are rare. Naturally, up to 60% off beauty is especially rare.

But back to the concealer…

As the name may have given away, the Triple C Concealer actually contains three natural forms of potent vitamin C to visibly brighten the skin over time. The coverage is smooth, comfortable and fairly full, with a formula designed to gloss over any visible fine lines rather than settle into them.

Of course, when you prefer to pack a product in every purse, your cart can add up quickly based on quantity. That’s why this specific sale is so well-timed.

Ahead of the summer season, during which we can often be found sporting nothing but a little concealer and a lip combo, we’re advising taking full advantage of the current sale price. The trusty concealer has come down from $45 to $27, which means you’re getting a luxury-level product for a pharmacy find price. It’s the exact excuse we needed to secure multiple tubes.

The concealer may be exceptional, but it isn’t the only Eye of Horus product worth adding to your cart during the sale. The Goddess Pencil and Lash Lift Mascara will make smoky eyes a three minute process, and the high-shine, non-sticky Lip Elixir is beautiful layered over a hazy application of the Lip Liner.

Now you just need to remember to make any Black Friday purse purchases wisely. In other words, ensure your new favourite concealer can fit in all options you’re considering, because once you try it, you’ll never leave it at home again.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, particularly for beauty lovers. Not only does it offer the chance to have your beauty cabinets restocked with the help of loved ones, but the holiday season also brings about some of our favourite buys: Christmas beauty gifts and special release sets.

Each festive season some of our favourite beauty brands drop limited edition sets from makeup to skincare and even perfume, that are only available once a year.

Why do we go a little crazy for a beauty gift set, you may ask? For one, they’re usually great value, we’re partially to their cute wrapping and they often come in the perfect travel-friendly size.

Whether it’s a new perfume or a trusted favourite that needs replenishing, great Christmas beauty gifts never go unappreciated or exchanged.

Below, we round up marie claire’s favourite beauty Christmas gifts for 2025.

Take Note Of Electimuss’ Vesper Reverie https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/skincare/electimuss-vesper-reverie/ Mon, 24 Nov 2025 03:39:56 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1498606 Luminous, mysterious

The post Take Note Of Electimuss’ Vesper Reverie appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Ever wish you could capture that fleeting magic of twilight — the moment when the world softens, and your senses feel sharper than ever? London-based niche fragrance brand Electimuss has done exactly that with Vesper Reverie, crafted alongside master perfumer Arturetto Landi.

Think of it as the scent of day slowly melting into night, where juicy fruits meet elegant florals and a warm, woody base that lingers like a whispered promise. It’s dreamy, seductive, and utterly hypnotic — the kind of fragrance that feels like a little luxury for the soul.

The Scent

Vesper Reverie is all about contrast in the most elegant way. The top notes are a juicy, slightly gourmand mix of blackcurrant, mango, peach, blood orange, star anise, green tea, and a hint of marine accord. These juicy, sparkling tones settle into a heart of hibiscus, champaca, jasmine, lily of the valley, rose, magnolia, and iris—florals that feel both bold and soft at the same time. Finally, the base unfurls with Madagascan vanilla, sugar cane, amber, oud, sandalwood, leather, and musk, creating a warm, almost hypnotic finish. The result? A fragrance that feels like twilight captured in a bottle: luminous, mysterious, and lingering.

The Mood

This is the scent for the twilight dreamer, the person who thrives in moments of quiet elegance and understated allure. Perfect for evenings out, late-night cocktails, or cozy dinners where you want to leave a lasting impression without saying a word. Vesper Reverie pairs as effortlessly with autumn’s crisp air as it does with a sultry summer evening—think of it as your signature sunset scent.

The Shelf

If you’re a fragrance collector, Vesper Reverie deserves a spot front and center. Its rich, layered composition works beautifully alongside lighter florals or even a touch of smoky oud from your cabinet. It’s the kind of scent you’ll reach for when you want to feel enveloped in mystery, sophistication, and just a hint of playful seduction. Worth every penny—and then some.

How To Add Colour Into Your Makeup

Marie Claire: Colour feels right at this time of year. What are some shades you recommend?
Victoria Baron: “Colour is such a simple and easy way to express mood, personality and festivity. When experimenting with colour, I always recommend starting by slightly adjusting shades or shapes of your current makeup bag or routine.

“If you usually accentuate your eyes, trade your usual shades out for something a little different. Instead of a neutral palette, try a deep smoky grey-blue or shimmery purple. It gives definition and dimension but still feels wearable.”

MC: If we want to focus on lips?

VB: “If you love to keep your lips in focus, try a colour like the Chanel Rouge Allure Laque Liquid Lipstick in Nébuleuse, a pearly crimson purple matched with glowing skin and a coat of mascara for definition.”

“The holiday season has always been a time where makeup becomes less serious and every day and leans into a more celebratory and expressive place. It’s about having fun, feeling renewed, and welcoming change as the year comes to an end and a new one begins”

MC: If we want baby steps, what can we do?

VB: “Even a small change, like exchanging a black (or brown) eyeliner for a coloured one, can completely transform the feeling of the makeup. I particularly love the bluish-grey CHANEL Noir Allure Mascara in ANTHRACITE. It still defines the lashes beautifully, but it feels softer and more subtle than a traditional black. A slight variation in tone of a mascara can really play with the tone of your eye colour and diffuse into or pick up unexpected tones in the eyeshadow.”

A Good Place To Start

MC: If we’re colour-shy, where on the face do you recommend we start: lips, eyes, or cheeks?
VB: “Experimenting with colour can feel daunting, especially if you’ve tried it before and it didn’t quite work out. But colour can suit everyone, it’s all about how you apply it. It’s easiest to start with the feature that you are the most comfortable with and go from there.”

Eyes: “For eyes, I like to keep the colour close to the lash line and resist the urge to go too big with the shape. A soft wash of coloured shadow or a touch of eyeliner as an accent, perhaps a flick on the outer corner or a hint of brightness along the lower lash line, can offer a fresh perspective without overwhelming it.”

LIPS: “For lips, if a bold bright lip is overwhelming, use a cotton tip to diffuse the edges, stain the lips with your finger or blot down the colour with a tissue. The beauty of a CHANEL Beauty collection is that everything is designed to work in harmony. If you’re drawn to a new eyeshadow palette, the coordinating lipsticks and nail colours have been created as part of that same story, so the guesswork is taken out of it.”

NAILS: “Leaning into colour doesn’t have to mean a total transformation. It can be as simple as an unexpected nail shade like metallic orange Le Vernis Alchimiste or a slightly unexpected tone on the lips like CHANEL Rouge Allure Laque Incandescent that creates a multi-coloured dimension to the lips. It’s about small, confident steps that don’t feel like a departure and still feel like you.”

“A pigmented bold lipstick will always feel modern and timeless, it never goes out of style. The modernity comes from how you wear it.”

Take Inspiration From The Classics

MC: What in your mind is the most classic holiday makeup look, and how can we change it up and make it modern?
VB: “When I think of a classic holiday look, I instantly think of a red lip or a light reflecting gold eyeshadow. Those two elements have always seemed to define the season. There’s something about sparkle, warmth, and light that we are all drawn to at this time of year.”

“A pigmented bold lipstick will always feel modern and timeless, it never goes out of style. The modernity comes from how you wear it. Pairing it with luminous, natural skin or a softly diffused eye keeps it feeling fresh and effortless rather than overdone. It’s less about chasing trends and more about shifting the attitude, keeping it relaxed, confident and lived-in.”

MC: Can you talk us through Chanel’s Holiday 20925 Collection?
VB: “What I love about the CHANEL Holiday 2025 Collection is that it captures that festive spirit but does it in a more unexpected way. It’s not the predictable reds and golds. Instead, it’s inspired by the night sky, with blues, violets and subtle shimmer that feels romantic and reflective, combined with accents of metallic oranges and luminous hues. It still celebrates creativity and playfulness, but with a sense of quiet elegance.”

How To Get That Holiday Glow

MC: We all want flawless, glowing skin, but how do you achieve an editorial-worthy complexion?
VB: “Skin preparation has always been such an essential part of any makeup application for me. It sets the tone for the entire look and creates a moment to pause, connect, and do something for yourself. Makeup isn’t just visual, there’s intention behind it, and that begins with how you treat and prepare the skin.”

“When skin is well-prepared, your foundation can be minimal. It’s less about coverage and more about the natural health of the skin. Before any makeup, I start with a simple cleanse with CHANEL L’Eau Micellaire for a quick and easy refresh or a deeper cleanse with CHANEL L’Huile Cleansing Oil to remove any impurities.”

“I follow with a hydrating serum, eye cream, lip balm, and a moisturiser suited to the skin’s needs. Massage is one of the most transformative steps. It moves any stagnant fluid, brings vitality and glow to the skin, reduces puffiness, and helps the skin absorb product beautifully.”

MC: If we want to highlight but we’re worried about accentuating lines. How can we get around this?
VB: “Traditionally, highlighting means adding an iridescent, light-reflecting powder to the tops of the cheekbones, but that can sometimes draw attention to fine lines or texture. The key is all in the placement and the texture of the product. If you want that luminous finish without the shimmer sitting on the skin, I’d reach for CHANEL Baume Essentiel in Transparent. It gives a fresh, healthy glow without emphasizing lines because it melts with the skin rather than sitting on top of it.”

MC: Is placement important?
VB: “Highlight doesn’t always have to live on the cheekbones either. Think of it more as playing with light. You can bring radiance to the inner corners of the eyes, the bridge of the nose, or the top of the brow. And if you’d prefer to keep the focus away from fine lines, shift the attention elsewhere. A beautiful lip or illuminated eye can create that same sense of glow and vitality.
Essentially, highlight what you love most about your face, not what you’re trying to disguise. It’s about celebratory, clever placement and drawing attention to other areas and features.”

Chanel Holiday 2025 Collection

MC: This time of year brings joy. What makes you feel joyful and look your most radiant?
VB: “These days I’m much more considered about what I buy. I don’t like mindless purchasing. I’d rather invest in pieces that feel meaningful and intentional. That’s something I love about the CHANEL Holiday Collections. There’s always a story behind each creation; a sense of artistry and purpose that makes every product feel special.”

“I also find so much joy in lipstick. Because I spend my days perfecting makeup on others, there’s something very personal about my own small ritual. A lipstick in my bag, a colour I reach for when I need to lift my mood or signal the end of a long day. That small act of putting on a vibrant lip feels like a moment just for me.”

The sun can be relentless, the saltwater unforgiving and the humidity can turn even the best blowout into a frizzy pouf. Summers in Australia are supposed to be relaxing, but for your hair, they can be a marathon of damage. Every dip in the ocean or pool, and every hour spent under harsh UV rays, can strip away proteins and moisture your hair might vitally need.

Luckily, there are many things you can do to help your hair’s health. You can get trims every few months. Add more protein, iron, fatty acids and vitamins to your diet. And you can give up or limit bleaching and using damaging hot hair tools. Another thing you can try to maintain healthy, strong strands during summer is a hair growth product. Here, we’re highlighting some of our favourite, from serums and creams, to ingestibles.
