There’s nothing more striking than glorious curls or a bold wave, and a diffuser is the key to defining them. Madison Voloshin, celebrity stylist and hair director for Shark Beauty, tells how to get them and keep them. “Starting with Oribe Curl Control Silkening Crème, I worked with the natural texture of Soleil [pictured left] by diffusing it using the Shark FlexStyle with the diffuser attachment. For Summer’s hair [right], I used the diffuser again then ran my hands through the lengths to keep her natural curl looking effortless.”
Beauty note: Nothing says party like a statement lip. Apply a bold shade, keeping the rest of the face clean and fresh. Brush blush over cheeks and nose to up the pretty stakes.
Statement Curls

To really amp up curl volume, Voloshin recommends using the Shark FlexStyle tool twisted into hairdryer mode without an attachment. “I blew in some air to get more volume at the roots – I worked the hair backwards and forwards to really get air in there.” He then popped on the concentrator attachment to “stretch out the hair to make it as big as we could”.
Natural Attraction

Enlist a Mason Pearson brush for this look, then add heat at the root. “We brushed out her hair with a Mason Pearson brush, then I used a little bit of styling cream – the Oribe Featherbalm Weightless Styler,” explains Voloshin. “With the FlexStyle and the concentrator attachment, I added a minimal amount of air to smooth down the roots to keep it as natural as possible.”
Bounce To It

To create big, voluminous curls, targeted heat is required. “I used the Shark FlexStyle with the auto-wrap curler attachment,” says Voloshin, who worked from left to right pinning the curls as he went to keep their volume and hold. “Then I used a little bit of Oribe Superfine Hair Spray to lock it in. When I pulled out the pins, I brushed out the hair with a paddle brush to smooth.”
Chic Sweeps

To comb out Soleil’s curls, Voloshin enlisted the FlexStyle’s wide-tooth comb, which is part of Shark Beauty’s BYO (build your own) FlexStyle range. “I went through using the wide-tooth comb attachment to brush Soleil’s hair as straight as possible.” Beauty note: Add a cream shimmer to your lids, sweeping the colour up towards the brows.
Textured Waves

“Start with a bit of texture spray – I used the Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray,” says Voloshin. “I work with the natural hair, but then mess it up a little by using the Shark FlexStyle with the paddle brush attachment.” Then it’s all in creating volume. “I brushed her natural wave before using the diffuser on the hair and adding more product to give it a lived-in texture so it’s a bit gritty.”
Shine On
Natural waves look so chic paired with styling designed to celebrate. Voloshin rakes his hands through curls to give an air of effortlessness. “After using the diffuser on the FlexStyle on both Summer and Soleil, I added heat at the roots using the concentrator attachment to smooth.”
