Since the very first peptide lip treatment hit shelves complete with matching phone case holder, Australians have been asking when Hailey Bieber’s cult brand Rhode Beauty will launch here.

Now, we finally have our answer with Mecca and Rhode confirming the brand will finally be available to shop here as of February.

When Is Rhode Beauty Coming To Australia?

Rhode Beauty has announced “our complete collection on rhodeskin.com will ship to both countries” that being Australia and New Zealand, from February 12th at 6am AEDT.

A selection of products will also be available to shop exclusively at Mecca. In an Instagram announcement, the brand revealed: “on February 12th, you’ll be able to shop rhode online and at MECCA’s bourke street and george street flagship locations, followed by most stores on February 13th.”

Fans first became convinced that Rhode Beauty would launch in February 2026 following the announcement that Bieber is set to visit Australia.

The 28-year-old revealed she’s coming to our shores in 2026, appearing at the Sydney Opera House for Vogue’s Forces of Fashion talk, making for the perfect opportunity to also launch her label here.

The most viral hint came from beauty creator@livingluxwithmeredith, whose track record for predicting Mecca launches is notoriously strong.

In a video posted late last year, she teased that a “very, very big brand” is coming to Mecca in early 2026, then cheekily added that she’d “forgot her lip peptide” while eating a glazed doughnut.

A felt a little too on the nose? Perhaps. Within hours, TikTok and Reddit were convinced she was talking about Rhode.

Will Rhode Launch Into Sephora Australia?

Following the sale of Rhode Beauty to e.l.f Beauty for US $1Billion earlier this year, the brand launched into Sephora stores as part of its expansion. Does that mean Sephora will house the brand when it finally lands here?

At this stage, Rhode confirmed Mecca as the “exclusive” stockist here in Australia.

Separately, however, the retailer has openly acknowledged the possibility of future expansion. When asked by 9Honey, Sephora confirmed that Rhode is not yet available locally, but added that they “aim to be available in additional countries in the future.”

Renowned makeup artist Isabella Schimid talks about staying confident in an industry driven by looks, her journey with vitiligo, and how pink hair became her identity. Here’s her story,

Skin has always fascinated me, the way it responds to products, to touch, the way it can glow in a photo. At 19, I was already working as a skin therapist. I had found my calling.

But I also loved makeup.

In The Beginning

My first boss was Nerida Joy, now one of the most celebrated facialists in Los Angeles. Nerida had moved to LA from Sydney, so I went over and worked in her spas. It was a great way to gain a deep knowledge of skin and how it responds.

Nerida knew how much I loved makeup, so she encouraged me to lean into it more. Her encouragement changed everything.

I did a makeup course and started working in film and television. I loved the alchemy of transformation, and how makeup could help bring a character to life. The importance of continuity; it all really thrilled me.

But film and television demand your life: the hours are very long and you have to be available all the time. When I had children, especially once I had my younger son, I knew I couldn’t keep working the way I once did; I wanted to be more present for them.

The Move Into Editorial Makeup

Editorial makeup came to me almost by accident. A photographer friend, Nick Scott, suggested we “test” together. Testing is an industry term where you get a team together – photographer, stylist, hair and makeup – to create images for your portfolio. The process allows you to be more creative. There are no clients and no briefs so you can push things more. Then I went with Nick and his girlfriend to Hong Kong to build our portfolios. I came home with this amazing book and got my first agency contract. Just like that, I had stepped into the world of fashion.

I’ve now been in this industry for more than 25 years. And through all of it – the shifts in technology, the changing faces – one thing has remained constant: I’m still obsessed with skin.

A Beauty Junkie At Heart

I am, unapologetically, a beauty-product junkie. My garage is full of creams, serums, foundations, powders, lipsticks and palettes. Some of it I’m gifted, but much of it I buy myself. Curiosity has always been my driver. I want to know what’s out there, what’s working. I want to touch it, work with it and see how it performs on skin. Some products that I swore by 10 years ago would never make it into my kit now. Technology and ingredients improve, formulations adapt and expectations shift. Lighting and cameras have changed too, and there is a demand for skin that looks like skin, not like makeup.

Embracing Change

You have to evolve in this job. That’s what I love about it; it’s definitely never boring. I love a beautiful model and I love being part of creating a beautiful image. I’m still obsessed with making sure the skin looks the best I possibly can make it.

People ask me if being surrounded by perfect faces makes me feel insecure, but it doesn’t. Maybe when I was younger I may have compared my face or my body. But age and experience have given me confidence.

You can be working with the most beautiful woman you’ve ever seen, but her insecurities can still be there. Sometimes you can touch a person, and it starts to come out. In many ways, I don’t feel uncomfortable because these people rely on me so much in that moment.

Becoming A Mother

Motherhood has taught me resilience, too. My daughter is now 23, my son is 15. In the early years, it was a constant juggle of shoots, travel and looking after the children. My parents helped me in those years and were always so supportive of my career. We have found a new rhythm now. My husband has stepped into the role of stay-at-home parent – I supported him for years and now he is happy to support me.

It has helped me push my career forward. I’ve already worked in six countries this year alone. I get to travel, to work, to do what I love, then come home to a family that loves and supports me.

Going Pink

I’ve had pink hair for 14 years now. After I had my son, I started going grey. I thought, “Why not bleach it? Why not have a little fun?” At first the pink was just playful, but then the colour started to become part of me. It softened my complexion, distracted from my vitiligo, and gave me an edge. Honestly, it also made me feel a bit cool.

Over the years, the pink has become part of my identity. Sometimes I wonder if I should go blonde again or let the greys grow out, but then I look in the mirror, see the pink and think, no, this is me.

Living With Vitiligo

My vitiligo arrived after my first pregnancy. I already had Hashimoto’s, a thyroid condition, and pregnancy triggered another autoimmune reaction. That trauma created these tiny white patches all over my body.

Vitiligo is when the melanin in your skin stops producing, so your normal skin colour starts to lose the pigment. Over time, it spreads. My hands are now completely white. Other parts of my body are mottled; interestingly, the patterns on my legs and arms are almost identical.

It was a shock at first. With this disease you just don’t know how it will progress. Looking in the mirror, I just saw all this discoloration and unevenness. But I realised it wasn’t going to kill me. It wasn’t dangerous. It was just part of me.

I started to accept it. Then I began to embrace it. People even tell me it suits me, which used to make me laugh. It’s unique and a point of difference, almost like a tattoo.

Loving The Skin We’re In

I do have to be cautious. I wear SPF every day and can’t use harsh actives. Instead, I focus on glow. I use LED, microcurrent, massage, good skincare and an at-home laser that helps my skin look healthy. I can’t restore the pigment, but I can make my skin look alive – that works for me.

The key is to listen to your own skin, find ingredients to answer your concerns, and be diligent. And prep is everything. I never prep two models the same way. Skin is individual. It deserves to be treated that way.

Looking back, I’m grateful I studied skin therapy. It’s the best foundation I could have had. Understanding skin at its core, knowing how to treat it, how it behaves – that knowledge has shaped everything I do.

The Modern Way To Wear Glitter https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/how-to-wear-glitter-adult/ Wed, 17 Dec 2025 06:03:13 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500755 It's glitter, but grown-up

The post The Modern Way To Wear Glitter appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Forget festival sparkles and chunky, unforgiving flecks, glitter has officially grown up – and it’s now the shimmering crown of the season’s makeup statements. Here’s how to wear it

Wet-Look Lids

Glitter reads as chic rather than childish when placement is strategic. “A soft, subtle sparkle through the centre of the eyelid or in the inner corner can create a wet, multi-dimensional effect,” says Ocea McKenzie, MAC education manager for Australia and New Zealand.

Her trick? Press loose glitter on with a firm, dense brush, then lock it down with a setting spray. McKenzie rates the MAC Reflects Glitter in Pearl, as the shimmer looks glossy instead of glitzy (yes, there’s a difference).

Inner Light

If you want to test-drive glitter, start subtly. “Choosing just one feature will make it a highlight without overpowering the entire look,” says Make Up For Ever Pro Collective Artist Karyssa Leigh.

Her go-to is a dusting of ultra-fine pigment over the tear duct for an almost imperceptible glint. Leigh suggests the brand’s Star Lit Diamond Powder in white silver or white gold are flattering across skin tones for a refined twinkle.

Graphic Glitter

For those who favour a classic cat’s eye, swapping black liner for glitter is an updated twist. “Glitter winged liner is modern and wearable – pick a focal point and commit,” says Leigh.

Use a liquid glitter formula for precision, tracing just above the lash line and finishing with a flick at the outer corner. It’s playful yet elevated, and perfect for the party season, especially in gold or champagne tones.

“I’m a more is more kind of girl, so you’ll never have to twist my arm about glitter”

MAC’s Ocea McKenzie.

Make Up For Ever Artist Color Crayon Multi-Use Stick in Starfire Gold, $57, at Sephora. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Ruby Shimmer, $59. Chanel Les 4 Ombres Boutons in Boutons Baroque, $144. Mecca Max Eye Max Shimmer Gel Eyeliner in Bronzite, $25.

Twinkle Tips

According to McKenzie, “Glitter on the skin feels more festive, but a glittery nail can look effortlessly cool and elevated.”

Whether it’s a sheer shimmer veil over neutral polish or dense sparkle delicately placed across every tip, there are a multitude of sophisticated ways to add dazzle to your digits. For a trend-led take, consider negative-space glitter tips or a glazed manicure layered with ultra-fine shimmer.

All-Over Glimmer

Glitter needen’t stop at the eyes. “Grab your favourite liquid or powder highlight and wash it over collarbones and shoulders,” Leigh suggests.

Mix pigment into body oil or moisturiser to transform any hydrator into a luminous veil, or tap the same shimmer onto cheeks to dial up the glow. For a more natural finish, choose balms, sticks or creams to create a dewy sheen rather than full sparkle. Make Up For Ever’s Color Crayons are a no-brainer if you’re after mess-free application for eyes and cheeks.

Soft Shimmer

Yes, minimalists can still play with glitter. “A fine glitter can catch the light in the most delicate, unexpected way,” says McKenzie.

Leigh is partial to Make Up For Ever’s Star Lit Diamond Powder dusted over a soft brown shadow – “a magical moment,” she says. Apply sparingly with finger or fluffy brush for an incandescent finish that feels polished and wearable for any occasion.

Morphe Python Code Eyeshadow Palette, $26, at Mecca. Half Magic Glitterpuck Multi-Use Pressed Fairy Dust in Dopamine Sparkle, $51, mecca.com. Dior Addict Lip Maximizer in Sunlit Amber, $65.

High-Key Sparkle

From smudgy metallic lids to full-impact reflective pigments, glitter is swinging back towards fearless expression.

“Personally, I’m a more is more kind of girl, so you’ll never have to twist my arm when it comes to glitter,” says McKenzie with a laugh.

Leigh notes the resounding impact of brat summer on party makeup.

“We’re seeing more ‘unpolished’ makeups in the spotlight – smudgy liner with washes of colour, including glitter, especially metallics.”

Whether it’s a single saturated shade or a complex, multidimensional finish, this look is unapologetically party-ready.

Ask Sally: Do I Really Need A Primer? https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/makeup/do-i-need-a-primer/ Wed, 17 Dec 2025 05:18:56 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500569 Our beauty director answers your burning beauty questions.

The post Ask Sally: Do I Really Need A Primer? appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Admittedly, I’ve always been a bit hit-and-miss with primer. Some days I reach for it like my life depends on it; others, I skip straight from skincare to a tint or foundation, putting primer in the too-hard basket.

Lately, though, with a crop of new hybrid formulas that blur the line between skincare and makeup, I’ve been wondering: could the primer replace a skincare step or two to help streamline my routine?

Primers Are Back In The Limelight

I only need to flick to my work inbox to know that primers are becoming a regular in beauty routines. And where these skin smoothers were once chock-full of silicons to add a filter-like finish, the new breed firmly adopts the “skincare first” approach. Take the two primers from local brand Go-To. Both the glow-making and mattifying options bridge the gap between skincare and makeup by adding helpful ingredients like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.

Primers are becoming a regular in beauty routines. But do we really need them?

Skin-Smoothing Primers

British brand Isamaya, meanwhile, uses clinical-grade ingredients in its featherweight Microbial primer, which helps support the skin barrier with hyaluronic acid, prebiotics and calming botanicals, while adding skin grip to help set your makeup for the day.

For those seeking to smooth the look of pores and fight blemishes, Glow Recipe’s Strawberry BHA Pore-Smooth Blur Drops ($55, at Mecca) helps even tone and mop up excess oil for a matte finish, while Tatcha’s famed Silk Canvas is a must-have of celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin, who says the added silk powders and extracts help create smoother, glowing looks that last. He regularly does Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s makeup, so he’s not wrong.

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Primer, 40ml, $76. Chanel La Base Matifiante Perfecting Moisturising Primer, $84. Tatcha The Silk Canvas, $93,

Skincare-Dosed Primers

If you drill down, you don’t have to wear a dedicated primer. But you do have to prep your skin before you add makeup, because a tint or foundation (even with added skincare ingredients) on unprepped skin is not going to give thosered- carpet results we see on our feeds. A sheet mask (if you have time), serum and a good moisturiser can prep skin well, no primer needed. Where primers come into their own is when you want a specific outcome: to mattify maybe, minimise the look of pores, or make your base last.

For staying power, L’Oréal Paris Prime Lab 24-hour Matte Setter controls shine without dulling glow. And Chanel’s popular La Base Matifiante mattifying primer uses hyaluronic acid and annatto seeds to help smooth the look of pores and add a satin finish.

For a runway-ready finish (luminous but not shiny), take a cue from makeup artist Filomena Natoli, who used Hourglass’s mineral-based primer (60ml, $129) to create the soft-focus skin seen on Christopher Esber’s S/S 2026 runway. Equally, formulations that feel more cream than primer, such as Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base (50ml, $105) and Glossier’s Priming Moisturizer ($48) help to prep drier skin types so that they feel radiant, hydrated and smooth.

Dior Forever Glow Veil Radiance Primer, $92. Go-To Very Mattifying Primer, $48. Prada Refine Blurring Extending Primer, $110.

Primers That Highlight And Glow

Then there are primers with highlight included. Take Dior’s Forever Glow Veil, which comes with luminous-boosting hibiscus extract to get skin looking so radiant I’m often tempted to skip foundation altogether.

You can also use primer as makeup. Top artist Rae Morris swears by what she calls “reverse highlighting”. Instead of applying primer before foundation, she adds a little afterwards to overly shiny areas. Prada Beauty’s Lynsey Alexander does something similar, patting in the brand’s excellent mattifying primer to add a blurred look to areas that need smoothing. It’s an effective trick that requires little product and helps matte everything down without losing your glow.

So, where do I stand? I’m primer agnostic. Most days, I’m happy to let my skincare do the work. But for a special event, or when I’ll be out from very early until very late, I’ll add in a primer to make my makeup sing.

Louis Vuitton creative director for makeup Pat McGrath talks about launching the makeup collection La Beauté, her dreams coming true, and working as an artist with global phenomenon Lisa, the Blackpink star and Louis Vuitton ambassador

Blackpink’s Lisa for Louis Vuitton La Beauté

When you heard you had been appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton, how did you feel?

That moment will remain one of the most profound and heartfelt emotions of my life. It wasn’t just a career milestone, it was the realisation of a long-held dream. Becoming the creative director for a house as deeply symbolic as Louis Vuitton is something I could never have imagined. From the very first conversation I had with Nicolas [Ghesquière, artistic director for women’s collections at Louis Vuitton] and the LVMH executives, everything felt so natural yet utterly magical. We shared the same creative language, rooted not in chasing trends but in craftsmanship, intention and creations born of the soul. Now, I’m surrounded by a passionate team who inspire me every day, and the fact that I’m trusted completely to create freely makes this journey truly extraordinary. It still feels miraculous.

Within the world of Louis Vuitton, what kind of beauty do you envision?

Louis Vuitton Beauty is not merely about decorating the surface, it’s an experience that evokes emotion and reveals authenticity. I define beauty as “the beauty of emotion”, “the beauty of craftsmanship”, and “the beauty of passion”. Every texture and every hue in our collection must embody innovation, excellence and artistry. To me, beauty is not a tool of perfection but a companion on your life’s journey – something that exists beside you, for you, and within you. True beauty should live not only in appearance but also in feeling and everyday life.

Please introduce the products in the first collection, titled La Beauté Louis Vuitton…

When preparing Louis Vuitton Beauty’s debut collection, I wanted to return to the very essence of beauty. So we focused on two main categories: lips and eyes. The results, LV Rouge, LV Balm and LV Ombre, are not just products but declarations. They embody the timeless elegance and natural, sincere beauty that Nicolas’ designs communicate, beauty that feels effortless yet deeply refined. We thought deeply about how to translate that philosophy into makeup. For us, makeup completes a look, yes, but more importantly it captures the total emotional expression of a face. A soft lip or a powerful gaze – each can tell its own story, or even exist in contrast to one another. The collection itself is a language of beauty that reflects the individuality and modern femininity of today.

What message did you want to convey through this first collection?

This collection is not simply the beginning of Louis Vuitton Beauty, it is about opening a new chapter in the maison’s story. I wanted there to be the same conversation as Louis Vuitton’s garments, bags and perfumes – to be a beauty that lives with that universe. Every texture and the play of light on the model’s skin had to be connected by intentionality and emotion. My hope is that these creations become an effortless part of daily life, natural yet timelessly special, a modern heirloom that endures.

You’ve had a long creative partnership with Nicolas Ghesquière – did that influence this launch as well?

Working with Nicolas always feels like being in the flow of destiny. Our two creative worlds collide and harmonise at once; it’s almost alchemical. Every season, he comes to me with mood boards, sketches and silhouettes, and from that moment the magic begins. I interpret with makeup that doesn’t exist yet, conducting moments that visualise stories until we imagine the ultimate look. What we create together goes far beyond the runway; La Beauté Louis Vuitton extends into a shared emotional experience that reaches far more people.

How did the house codes of Louis Vuitton translate into makeup?

Reflecting the maison’s codes doesn’t mean simply reproducing its symbols or monograms. I wanted to reinterpret Louis Vuitton’s spirit – travel, transformation, and the beauty of adventure – through colour, texture and light. Everything had to feel modern yet timeless, luxurious yet deeply personal. Movement, freedom, discovery – into the language of makeup. The lipstick, for instance, expresses that constant movement and transformation, the freedom to embody your own energy. To me, that’s the purest reflection of Louis Vuitton’s philosophy. We studied the archives, deeply analysed Nicolas’ runway universe, and built a bridge connecting tradition with the modern era. Every texture and colour was crafted with meticulous intention and obsessive precision.

“A single lipstick or eyeshadow isn’t just a product, it’s a chapter that blends into your story, creating an emotional connection that goes beyond visual change” – Pat McGrath

Louis Vuitton has always had a deep connection with beauty. How did that influence this collection?

Louis Vuitton has long understood that beauty is part of a woman’s journey. Back in the 1920s, the maison designed vanity cases – not just practical objects but symbols of elegance and independence. I wanted to carry that same spirit into the present day. So from the lipstick trunks to the eyeshadow palettes and cosmetic pouches, every element of this collection honours that legacy of beauty. It’s not about nostalgia, but reinterpretation, blending functionality with emotion and crafting something that satisfies both the heart and the hand.

In what moments do you think Louis Vuitton beauty products fit best?

I believe makeup is an expression of emotion. It’s not just a tool to complete a look, but a language of feeling. That’s why this collection was designed to resonate with the moods and desires that everyone experiences. With a bold lip colour and a smoky eye, you might feel ready for a dramatic evening, or with a soft tint and neutral tones you might find comfort at the end of a long day. Every product was crafted to glide seamlessly with the rhythm and emotion of its wearer, enhancing their natural authenticity. This, to me, is the true meaning of modern beauty.

“A single lipstick or eyeshadow isn’t just a product, it’s a chapter that blends into your story, creating an emotional connection that goes beyond visual change” – Pat McGrath

Pat McGrath Labs is know for its experimental and extraordinary textures. Can we expect the same from La Beaute Louis Vuitton?

Absolutely. Boldness, experimentation and inclusivity are, to me, the essence of beauty. This collection includes 14 nude lip shades and eight eyeshadow palettes, each designed around three easy-to-use core colours paired with a contrasting accent shade. From matte velvet finishes to golden glitters, there are six textures that can be freely layered and mixed. I was inspired by Louis Vuitton’s Roman numerals, incorporating the number “55” into the packaging, a nod to timelessness. Every element carries layers of meaning, completing a world of deep, sensory beauty.

Blackpink's Lisa for Louis Vuitton La Beauté
Blackpink’s Lisa for Louis Vuitton La Beauté

Many see you not just as a makeup artist but as an artist in the truest sense. How do you define what it means to be an artist today?

Today’s artist is someone who imagines without fear, who refuses to settle in the present and who constantly reinterprets the way we see the world. I’ve never viewed makeup as mere “decoration,” but as a medium – like painting or sculpture – that evokes emotion and transforms reality. True artistry begins with intention. Sometimes the subtlest gesture can be the most powerful, and at other times bold maximalism creates the most striking harmony. What matters most is that your art becomes a true expression of who you are.

What kind of emotion do you hope people feel when they experience La Beaute Louis Vuitton?

I hope people feel that through La Beauté Louis Vuitton they’re not just becoming more beautiful, they’re revealing themselves. It might feel like transformation or a quiet confidence. A single lipstick or eyeshadow isn’t just a product, it’s a page that blends into your own story. This is about creating emotional connection beyond visual change; a dialogue between self-expression, authenticity and timeless beauty. That, I believe, is the true power of beauty.

Ahead of Chanel’s Couture Métiers d’Art Show in New York, Angèle — Belgian singer-songwriter, House Ambassador, and the face of Chance Eau Splendide — settles in for a beauty transformation focused on bold opulence.

It begins with prep that focuses on hydration. A sweep of La Crème Main melts into her skin, leaving hands soft and poised for the night ahead. A swipe of Sublimage L’Extrait Huile Lèvres follows, cushioning her lips with a veil of hydration that will deepen every shade that comes after.

A radiant base anchors the look. Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation Hydration And Longwear blurs effortlessly across her complexion, while her cheekbones gain soft sculptural dimension using Joues Contraste Intense In Beige Éclatant, applied with the gentlest hand for just a touch of warmth.

It’s the eyes, however, that define the mood: bold, celestial, quietly dramatic. A palette of molten bronze, cosmic plum, and smoked black from Les 9 Ombres In 849 The Space Traveler transforms her lids into an orbit of shadow and shine. Layers of Le Volume De Chanel In 10 Noir finish and thicken the lashes, lifting and framing her gaze.

Her lips are finished in the satiny rose-pink precision of Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue In 174 Endless Pink, a shade that feels both timeless and modern, soft yet assured.

As a final gesture, Angèle reaches for a signature fragrance. A cloud of Chance Eau Splendide Eau De Parfum settles, leaving the skin bright with citrus and airy florals.

Complete, it’s a look that’s elegant, magnetic, unmistakably Chanel — exactly what the Métiers d’Art show calls for.

How To Add A Pop Of Colour To Your Holiday Makeup, According To Chanel https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/makeup/chanel-holiday-2025-collection/ Mon, 24 Nov 2025 03:01:15 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1498546 We enlist a top makeup artist to weigh in.

The post How To Add A Pop Of Colour To Your Holiday Makeup, According To Chanel appeared first on marie claire.

]]>

Even if you’re a taupes and browns girl throughout the year, the holiday season is the perfect moment to experiment with colour. We ask Victoria Baron, CHANEL Makeup Artist for her best makeup tips to blend the classics with a seasonal twist to help get us into the spirit these holidays.

How To Add Colour Into Your Makeup

Marie Claire: Colour feels right at this time of year. What are some shades you recommend?
Victoria Baron: “Colour is such a simple and easy way to express mood, personality and festivity. When experimenting with colour, I always recommend starting by slightly adjusting shades or shapes of your current makeup bag or routine.

“If you usually accentuate your eyes, trade your usual shades out for something a little different. Instead of a neutral palette, try a deep smoky grey-blue or shimmery purple. It gives definition and dimension but still feels wearable.”

MC: If we want to focus on lips?

VB: “If you love to keep your lips in focus, try a colour like the Chanel Rouge Allure Laque Liquid Lipstick in Nébuleuse, a pearly crimson purple matched with glowing skin and a coat of mascara for definition.”

“The holiday season has always been a time where makeup becomes less serious and every day and leans into a more celebratory and expressive place. It’s about having fun, feeling renewed, and welcoming change as the year comes to an end and a new one begins”

Victoria Baron, CHANEL Makeup Artist

MC: If we want baby steps, what can we do?

VB: “Even a small change, like exchanging a black (or brown) eyeliner for a coloured one, can completely transform the feeling of the makeup. I particularly love the bluish-grey CHANEL Noir Allure Mascara in ANTHRACITE. It still defines the lashes beautifully, but it feels softer and more subtle than a traditional black. A slight variation in tone of a mascara can really play with the tone of your eye colour and diffuse into or pick up unexpected tones in the eyeshadow.”

Chanel Holiday 2025 Collection

A Good Place To Start

MC: If we’re colour-shy, where on the face do you recommend we start: lips, eyes, or cheeks?
VB: “Experimenting with colour can feel daunting, especially if you’ve tried it before and it didn’t quite work out. But colour can suit everyone, it’s all about how you apply it. It’s easiest to start with the feature that you are the most comfortable with and go from there.”

Eyes: “For eyes, I like to keep the colour close to the lash line and resist the urge to go too big with the shape. A soft wash of coloured shadow or a touch of eyeliner as an accent, perhaps a flick on the outer corner or a hint of brightness along the lower lash line, can offer a fresh perspective without overwhelming it.”

LIPS: “For lips, if a bold bright lip is overwhelming, use a cotton tip to diffuse the edges, stain the lips with your finger or blot down the colour with a tissue. The beauty of a CHANEL Beauty collection is that everything is designed to work in harmony. If you’re drawn to a new eyeshadow palette, the coordinating lipsticks and nail colours have been created as part of that same story, so the guesswork is taken out of it.”

NAILS: “Leaning into colour doesn’t have to mean a total transformation. It can be as simple as an unexpected nail shade like metallic orange Le Vernis Alchimiste or a slightly unexpected tone on the lips like CHANEL Rouge Allure Laque Incandescent that creates a multi-coloured dimension to the lips. It’s about small, confident steps that don’t feel like a departure and still feel like you.”

“A pigmented bold lipstick will always feel modern and timeless, it never goes out of style. The modernity comes from how you wear it.”

Victoria Baron, CHANEL Makeup Artist

Take Inspiration From The Classics

MC: What in your mind is the most classic holiday makeup look, and how can we change it up and make it modern?
VB: “When I think of a classic holiday look, I instantly think of a red lip or a light reflecting gold eyeshadow. Those two elements have always seemed to define the season. There’s something about sparkle, warmth, and light that we are all drawn to at this time of year.”

“A pigmented bold lipstick will always feel modern and timeless, it never goes out of style. The modernity comes from how you wear it. Pairing it with luminous, natural skin or a softly diffused eye keeps it feeling fresh and effortless rather than overdone. It’s less about chasing trends and more about shifting the attitude, keeping it relaxed, confident and lived-in.”

MC: Can you talk us through Chanel’s Holiday 20925 Collection?
VB: “What I love about the CHANEL Holiday 2025 Collection is that it captures that festive spirit but does it in a more unexpected way. It’s not the predictable reds and golds. Instead, it’s inspired by the night sky, with blues, violets and subtle shimmer that feels romantic and reflective, combined with accents of metallic oranges and luminous hues. It still celebrates creativity and playfulness, but with a sense of quiet elegance.”

How To Get That Holiday Glow

MC: We all want flawless, glowing skin, but how do you achieve an editorial-worthy complexion?
VB: “Skin preparation has always been such an essential part of any makeup application for me. It sets the tone for the entire look and creates a moment to pause, connect, and do something for yourself. Makeup isn’t just visual, there’s intention behind it, and that begins with how you treat and prepare the skin.”

“When skin is well-prepared, your foundation can be minimal. It’s less about coverage and more about the natural health of the skin. Before any makeup, I start with a simple cleanse with CHANEL L’Eau Micellaire for a quick and easy refresh or a deeper cleanse with CHANEL L’Huile Cleansing Oil to remove any impurities.”

“I follow with a hydrating serum, eye cream, lip balm, and a moisturiser suited to the skin’s needs. Massage is one of the most transformative steps. It moves any stagnant fluid, brings vitality and glow to the skin, reduces puffiness, and helps the skin absorb product beautifully.”

MC: If we want to highlight but we’re worried about accentuating lines. How can we get around this?
VB: “Traditionally, highlighting means adding an iridescent, light-reflecting powder to the tops of the cheekbones, but that can sometimes draw attention to fine lines or texture. The key is all in the placement and the texture of the product. If you want that luminous finish without the shimmer sitting on the skin, I’d reach for CHANEL Baume Essentiel in Transparent. It gives a fresh, healthy glow without emphasizing lines because it melts with the skin rather than sitting on top of it.”

MC: Is placement important?
VB: “Highlight doesn’t always have to live on the cheekbones either. Think of it more as playing with light. You can bring radiance to the inner corners of the eyes, the bridge of the nose, or the top of the brow. And if you’d prefer to keep the focus away from fine lines, shift the attention elsewhere. A beautiful lip or illuminated eye can create that same sense of glow and vitality.
Essentially, highlight what you love most about your face, not what you’re trying to disguise. It’s about celebratory, clever placement and drawing attention to other areas and features.”

Chanel Holiday 2025 Collection

MC: This time of year brings joy. What makes you feel joyful and look your most radiant?
VB: “These days I’m much more considered about what I buy. I don’t like mindless purchasing. I’d rather invest in pieces that feel meaningful and intentional. That’s something I love about the CHANEL Holiday Collections. There’s always a story behind each creation; a sense of artistry and purpose that makes every product feel special.”

“I also find so much joy in lipstick. Because I spend my days perfecting makeup on others, there’s something very personal about my own small ritual. A lipstick in my bag, a colour I reach for when I need to lift my mood or signal the end of a long day. That small act of putting on a vibrant lip feels like a moment just for me.”

CHANEL Holiday 2025 Collection is available now.

It’s not every day you get to meet the Creative and Image Director for Christian Dior Makeup, so when I got the opportunity earlier this year to meet Peter Philips, the brains behind many cult-worthy Dior Beauty makeup launches, you better believe I took the opportunity to ask him a question or two.

The meeting took place in the Hotel Majestic, in Cannes in the South of France. It’s an iconic hotel which plays host to the Dior Beauty Suite each year during Cannes Film Festival.

We’re in the dreamy sitting room within the Beauty Suite to witness the release of Rouge Dior On Stage, an ultra-long-wearing lipstick which packs the same glossy punch as a liquid lipstick but (excitingly) with the manoeuvrability of a bullet applicator.

“It’s a small range of 20 shades,” says Peter Philips as we sit down. “It’s a new formula, with new packaging and we have taken the benefits of what you find in a liquid lipstick and put them into a stick lipstick.”

The idea is you get wildly good makeup results with application ease.

“With a liquid formulation you have many possibilities for making exciting makeup results,” says Philips. “Things like finishes: a matt finish or non-transfer finish or high shine. With a bullet lipstick, you’re a bit more limited [with makeup artistry] because you need to add waxes to make it into a solid formula.”

Rouge Dior On Stage lipstick

In The Formula

A bullet lipstick formulation though does pack plenty of lip-care. This new recruit from Rouge Dior has ticked the care box as well, thanks to the addition of peony extract and pomegranate flower extract, both of which help to soften and nourish lips.

“The pros of a lipstick formulation is you can include extremely caring ingredients,” explains Philips. “So we aimed to merge the best of both worlds into this Rouge Dior On Stage lipstick formula.”

The result is a buttery solid lipstick in a very chic slimline stick that makes precision application more achievable than a liquid lipstick’s wand can sometimes be.

A first peek at the On Stage lipstick launch.

Application Tips

Philips of course has plenty of pro application tips for this next gen formulation.

“The formula is a very soft texture, so when you apply it, don’t push it out too much,” he says. “We have also designed a beautiful upside-down raindrop or tear shape, which is useful for a controlled application, but the shape also works very well for a blur lip. It’s a very handy shape, which matches all lip shape, all the lip sizes.”

Aside from the texture and finish, Peter’s inspiration for the range was deeply flattering shades that make us feel confident without looking overly made-up.

“I want women to really discover the benefits of the formula and not be intimidated and say, “oh no, this is not for me”,” he says. “This range has nudes so you can play and discover the great finish, the comfort of the formulation and the caring [feel].”

The Rouge Dior Contour lip liners, which now come in a new palette of nude shades which pair up perfectly with the new On Stage collection, are a great adjunct to help plump up lips and adding symmetry to lip shape. They can also create the ombre effect that is so on-trend right now – a technique that Philips says is a must-try if you have not yet jumped onboard.

“Use a dark lip line with a lighter shade of lipstick for a contoured look,” he suggests. “I have been using lipliner for a very long time but this is a look that is really being embraced right now.”

Marie Claire Beauty Director Sally Hunwick and Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Christian Dior Makeup.

Play With Colour & Texture

Philips is one of the most well-known makeup artists on the planet so when we asked him some ways to play with colour, he wasn’t short on ideas. “Work with colour and texture,” he says, suggesting we start with matt “all over the lips with a blurry edge” then add just a bit of shine in the centre of the lips. “It gives a beautiful hint of moisture on your lips in a very blurred [relaxed and chic] way,” Philips explains.

Jenna Ortega is ambassador for On Stage. Inside the Dior Beauty Suite in Cannes, France.

Girl of the moment Jenna Ortega is the campaign’s face. She wears Redwood Star (shade 390) in the shine finish. It’s a deep burnished red which Philips says is both iconic and very flattering. “That shade is really beautiful,” he says. “Shade 390 is an iconic rose shade, and it has amazing shine. It’s going to be very popular.”

Rouge Dior On Stage Shine Finish lipsticks, $72 and Rouge Dior Contour lip liners, $51, are available at Dior.com

On a warm October evening, Sydney’s Curzon Hall glowed under chandeliers and candlelight as celebrities, makeup artists and beauty insiders alike gathered to celebrate the arrival of Clé de Peau Beauté. The global luxury skincare brand is finally available in Australia at David Jones stores.

Hosted by Erin Holland and guided by the theme “The Key to Radiance is You,” guests moved through a multi-sensory experience which was designed to showcase the brand’s signature fusion of science, craftsmanship and luxury.

Each room offered a deeper look into the brand’s groundbreaking concept of skin intelligence the belief that our skin can learn, adapt and thrive when given the right hard-working formulations.

“We believe the skin is very clever,” explains Kiyoshi Sato, the brand’s Chief Technology Officer, who presented at the event. “It can distinguish between good and bad stimuli to maintain its best condition. We combine luxury with disruptive science to help skin self-optimise.”

Erin Holland, Max May, Tara Whiteman and guests at the Australian launch of Clé de Peau Beauté.

What is Clé de Peau Beauté?

Owned by Japanese powerhouse Shiseido, the brand (its name translating to “the key to skin’s beauty”) the Clé de Peau Beauté skincare and makeup collection has launched exclusively at David Jones. The first counters to open are department store’s Chatswood Chase store in Sydney and Bourke Street store in Melbourne.

Skincare devotees who have had to fly to beauty mecca’s such as Tokyo, New York or Paris can now get their hands on the brand’s award-winning La Crème. The jewel of Clé de Peau Beauté”s crown, La Crème is the culmination of the brand’s extensive research.

Still not convinced? Formulated with over 60 ingredients, Sato describes La Crème as his career’s work, bottled.

Nicole Kidman is global ambassador for Clé de Peau Beauté.

Nicole Kidman As Ambassador

A fan of Le Creme is Nicole Kidman. Kidman has recently been announced as the global ambassador for the brand. A longtime user of the brand, she tells Marie Claire that her skin “completely changed” after using La Crème and The Foundation.

The A-lister’s partnership underscores Clé de Peau Beauté’s mission to empower women worldwide: a commitment reflected in the brand’s UNICEF partnership, which has supported the education of more than 12.4 million girls across 11 countries since 2019.

The Clé de Peau Beauté skincare range

Cult-Worthy Products

There is a lot in Clé de Peau Beauté’s range that is worthy of investment. But one that you should look into when you first head to counter is The Serum. Formulated with radiant lily and lemon myrtle extract, this ultra lightweight serum acts as the precursor to all other skincare in the range and works to support skin barrier recovery, smoothness and luminosity.

At the event, the products drawing attention were the La Creme, The Foundation and The Concealer, which makeup artist to the stars Max May told Marie Claire he couldn’t “wait to get his hands on”.

Luxury Treatments

Also at the David Jones counter are annexed luxury treatment rooms that offer facial treatments that not only feel like real luxury but also have the ability to let you walk out looking radiant and lifted.

It’s this duality that defines Clé de Peau Beauté: scientific innovation meets censorial indulgence.

“Think of it as your complexion’s personal trainer,” Nancy Thong, Regional Brand Director told Marie Claire before the event. “It awakens your skin and conditions it to its best performance so that it can protect itself and boost that defence mechanism.”

“It’s all about awakening what already exists in the skin,” explains Thong. “We’re not masking or repairing; we’re re-educating.”

Clé de Peau Beauté The Serum, Lotions and Protective Day Emulsion are all cult-followed products.

What Makes The Brand Unique?

At the heart of the brand is its dedication to exquisite craftsmanship. “Every detail of our products, from texture to packaging, reflects the highest standards of beauty and luxury,” says Mizuki Hashimoto, Chief Brand Officer.

With crystal-cut jars, refillable packaging and formulas that marry art and science, Clé de Peau Beauté is redefining radiance from the inside out.

As Nicolas Baudonnet, Chief Marketing and Business Officer, explains to Marie Claire, “We blend French elegance, the global language of luxury, with Japanese precision and attention to detail.”

Australian beauty lovers, your key to glowing, intelligent skin has arrived.

There will always be a place for a good foundation in our makeup bags, but as the skinimalism beauty movement takes over, many of us are looking to sheerer formulas.

Particularly with the Australian weather, having a skin tint or tinted moisturiser on hand that feels like nothing and gives off that ‘your skin but better’ effect is a great alternative to a heavier full-coverage formula.

So as we begin to feel the heat of spring and summer, why not swap out your regular coverage for something a little more lightweight?

With so many options on the market, you can bet that the best also boast a plethora of skin-loving benefits to work harder than your average face tint—all in beach bag-friendly packaging.

Ahead, we round up the best crop of skin tints and tinted moisturisers to shop in Australia.

With the appointment of Dame Pat McGrath DBE as Creative Director of Cosmetics at Louis Vuitton in March, the fashion house’s foray into beauty seemed like a likely next step.

As a result, La Beauté Louis Vuitton has been eagerly awaited by beauty buffs and Louis Vuitton devotees alike (and pretty much everyone in between). Surely, we would get makeup to-die-for with such an impressive makeup visionary as McGrath at the helm…

And makeup to cherish we did.

Dame Pat McGrath was appointed creative Director of Cosmetics at Louis Vuitton in March

The collection is not available to buy yet... But happily today, we are getting a sneak peek into La Beauté Louis Vuitton.

Spoiler alert, it’s amazing.

The official worldwide launch for the beauty collection of luxe lipsticks, lip balms and eyeshadow palettes is on 29th August, but the good news for those of us who can’t wait (ahem, the entire Marie Claire team) is that pre-orders open on the 25th August, where we can snap up our wishlist at louisvuitton.

Louis Vuitton LV Rouge satin and matte finish lipsticks are refillable.

The new collection, crafted “with the meticulousness of couture”, comes with some very exciting pieces.

The beating heart is LV Rouge – a heavenly lipstick collection that spans 55 shades that includes both matte and satin finishes. Each shade has been carefully crafted and selected by McGrath herself.

“Luxury in makeup is about performance, craftsmanship and sensorality,” says McGrath. “It’s about textures that feel exquisite, colours that captivate, and formulas that perform flawlessly.”

– Dame Pat McGrath DBE,

If you want to invest, a first buy might be the burnished red of Monogram Rouge, a satin shade that offers up a red that feels at once timelessly classic and impeccably modern.

Rose Odyssee, meanwhile is a matte textured lipstick in an earthy-toned rose. The flattering shade would work very well to take you from the office to dinner.

If you want something sheer and easy-breezy to wear on your lips, the ten shades of LV Baumes should be your next obsession. Deeply hydrating and comfortable, these elevated lip balms add a good dose of luxury to your every day.

Looking for a standout? It could be Tendre Bliss, which suits just about any lip by adding a luxury dusting of sparkle.

Also in this first launch from the house is LV Ombres. A collection of eight heavenly packaged eye palettes – each with four shades – McGrath offers us up almost limitless possibilities.

“The eye shadows really set the tone for La Beauté Louis Vuitton,” explains McGrath. “They are bold, intentional and built to be remembered.”

La Beauté Louis Vuitton LV Ombres in Nude Mirage and LV Rouge satin lipstick in Monogram Rouge

Each is built to be highly wearable, with a standout shade to be incorporated when you’re feeling daring. Case in point, Harmonie 150 Beige Momento, which is inspired by the patina of Louis Vuitton’s famed LLV leather, is a trio of highly golden bronze pared with a rich and daring ivory.

“True luxury is when every detail is considered,” says McGrath about the collection. “It’s the fusion of artistry and technology, of heritage and innovation.”

– Dame Pat McGrath DBE,.

McGrath’s inexhaustible creativity, boundary-pushing technique, and uncanny abilities with colour and texture truly comes into play with this new Louis Vuitton beauty collection giving us oh-so much to covet.

If your makeup kit needs a hit of luxury, this is your opportunity.

The Official worldwide launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton is 29th August at louisvuitton and in selected LV stores, including Sydney Maison, Louis Vuitton Bondi and Queen Street Brisbane.

La Beauté Louis Vuitton is available to view at Louis Vuitton now.

Hailey Bieber Joins The Billion Dollar Beauty Club https://www.marieclaire.com.au/news/celebrity/why-hailey-bieber-sold-rhode/ Thu, 29 May 2025 00:45:26 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1283135 From Rhode to riches

The post Hailey Bieber Joins The Billion Dollar Beauty Club appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Hailey Bieber has joined an exclusive (and elusive) enclave of entrepreneurs after Rhode was acquired by E.l.f Beauty for US$1 Billion. The sale, which was confirmed on the founder’s Instagram, also brought with it news of a new chapter for Hailey herself, as she announced she’d be stepping into the roles of Chief Creative Officer and Head of Innovation at Rhode, while acting as strategic adviser to e.l.f Beauty.

“When I launched @rhode in 2022, I always had big dreams for the company, and the most important thing to me is to keep bringing rhode to more spaces, places, and faces globally,” Bieber said of the partnership.

“I found a like-minded disruptor with a vision to be a different kind of company that believes in big ideas and innovation in the same way that I do and will help us continue to grow the brand.”

Since it was founded in 2022, Hailey Bieber’s Rhode has maintained a strong grip on the beauty market. With just 10 products in its current stable, it’s been able to generate US$212 million in net sales in its most recent financial year – a figure no doubt bolstered by best-in-class marketing and its celebrity figurehead.

The acquisition marks an important step-up for Bieber, whose digital-native mindset has catapulted the brand to social media supremacy, garnering a devoted flock of followers willing to buy into the aspirational lifestyle offered by Rhode.

It was the ability to place product at the centre of a growing lifestyle brand that first attracted E.l.f chairman and chief executive, Tarang Amin, to the idea of a partnership.

“What we saw in Rhode was another like-minded disruptor,” he told BOF in an exclusive interview. “I see Hailey as much more than a celebrity, she is one of the most thoughtful founders I’ve ever met. She has incredible instinct, a beautiful aesthetic that’s absolutely resonating with her community.”

Infrastructure is a necessary formula for scale, and with the E.l.f acquisition, Rhode is able to do just that: grow.

Why Did Hailey Bieber Sell Rhode?

hailey Bieber Rhode
Image: @haileybieber

The acquisition news comes amid impressive year-on-year revenue growth for the brand, and as with any business looking to scale, investment becomes a matter of ‘when’ not ‘if’.

Under the terms of the agreement, E.l.f Beauty has agreed to a purchase figure of $800 million, inclusive of $200 million in shares. The additional $200 million is a conditional number determined by Rhode’s growth over a three-year period. Which, if Bieber’s cultural cachet continues to soar in an upwards trajectory – an undeniable factor in the brand’s continued success – there’s no reason to doubt the final invoice coming Bieber’s way.

Aside from the obvious fiscal benefits of building a brand to a level worthy of investment from such beauty bohemouths as E.l.f, the sale, so soon into Rhode’s businesses tenure, has prompted questions around timing. Why now? Why not in five years? After all, Amin himself said “She could have easily gotten more money from private equity or something else, but she cares about building this brand for the long term.”

Naturally, conversation around her husband’s rumoured financial woes entered the chat. The rumours in question relate to a recent article published in The Hollywood Reporter, which outlined the well-documented financial consequences of Justin’s ‘Justice’ tour cancellation.

Justin Bieber Hailey Bieber

According to sources, not fulfilling his contractual obligation to the tour’s promoter, AEG, caused a ripple effect that led to the Baby singer owing what insider’s claim to be upwards of US$20 million.

As per THR, Scooter Braun, his then-manager, allegedly covered the cost in the form of a “highly favourable (to Bieber) rate.” A loan, which allegedly is still left owing.

In January 2023, Bieber sold his entire catalogue of music for a reported $200 million, which included his master recordings. At the time, industry insiders and commentators alike questioned the agreement, and the staggeringly low sum involved. The questionable decision was thrown into the pit of intrigue surrounding the debt rumours, making it impossible to ignore the elephant in the (recording) room.

Bieber’s reps have since denied the debt allegations, issuing a statement that called the article “clickbait stupidity based on unnamed – and clearly ill-informed – ‘sources’, disappointed that they no longer work with Justin.”

Regardless, the Rhode sale comes at a time when the singer, and his struggles with mental health, are rarely out of the headlines, so naturally public intrigue will err on the side of scandal over celebration – which shouldn’t detract from Hailey’s monumental achievement, whatever the reason behind it.

The red carpet isn’t the only place to spot a star at the Cannes Film Festival. Each year, Dior Beauty opens its Dior Suite on the 6th floor of Le Majestic Hotel, an iconic hotel set on the doorstep of the festival’s red carpet.

The hotel is a celebrity hot-spot. Overlooking the Mediterranean and (more importantly at this time of year) the star-studded Palais des Festivals’ red carpet, the hotel is a hive of activity during the film festival.

Security is tight getting into the Majestic because, well, you are very likely to run into a star like Natalie Portman walking through in the lobby. But once you do get inside the hotel and take the elevator to level six, the Dior Suite is a sanctuary.

For the entire festival, A-listers have been making a beeline to the suite for a moment of refined pampering before their call time. Guests this year have have included Natalie Portman, Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence.

The Dior Beauty Suite At Cannes

Boasting 350 square meters, the 6th floor space is transformed into a dedicated beauty hub for the cream of the film industry. Inside the discrete doors, celebrities can get facials (performed by UK-based celebrity facialist Hadda Akrim), Dior makeup looks created by the Dior Pro Makeup team, and red carpet-worthy hair by Dyson Beauty.

Dior Beauty ambassador Natalie Portman has been a longtime face of Miss Dior eau de parfum

The Dior Beauty Suite this year has seen some well-known faces coming through its doors. Dior ambassador and face of Miss Dior, Natalie Portman looked incredible on the red carpet in a glittering archival-inspired Dior gown, paired with timeless makeup by Dior Beauty.

Using Dior Beauty makeup collections, created by Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, Portman’s beautiful makeup showcased a statement lip, winged eyes, pristine skin and a healthy glow.

If you want to emulate Portman’s natural-looking glow, try the just-launched Dior Backstage pH-balancing Glow Stick blush sticks, created by Peter Philips, Dior Beauty Creative and Image Director. They blend in seamlessly and make your glow look all your own.

The A-listers Who Visited The Dior Beauty Suite This Year

Every year the space charms guests with a new theme. In 2025, the theme is based around Dioriviera. The walls have been encased in natural sisal and rattan and towering animal sculptures have been wrapped in woven fibre, which gives a magical and welcoming feel for guests.

And the guests have been impressive.

Fellow House ambassadors Charlize Theron, Anya Taylor-Joy and Johnny Depp also visited the suite this year, while Robert Pattinson caused more than a ripple amongst fans when he graced the red carpet with his co-star and friend of Dior, Jennifer Lawrence, for the premiere of their film Die, My Love.

Both Pattinson and Lawrence visited the Dior Suite to retouch and take a moment of quite high above the bustle of the red carpet.

Miss Dior EDP

Marie Claire has heard under very good authority that the House has also welcomed A-listers Camille Cottin, Raphaël Quenard, Mallory Wanecque, Juliette Armanet, Nicole Wallace, Carla Bruni and Lucien Laviscount through its doors.

Natalie Portman, Dior Beauty Ambassador visits the Dior Beauty Suite at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in 2025.

With the sun shining and the sea glistening and access to a few minutes at the Dior Beauty Suite, it’s no wonder the stars seem to have their glow on this year.

Inspired by the golden light of sunset, these makeup looks created by Chanel Makeup Artist Victoria Baron using the just-launched Chanel Golden Hour Summer 2025 Makeup Collection add a flattering hue to all skin tones.

ABOVE: Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette in Golden, $121; Rouge Coco Flash in Late Sun, $75.

Sunset and sunrise tones are some of makeup’s most flattering, and these golden hours of each day are the inspiration for the new Chanel Les Beiges collection by Valentina Li and the Chanel Makeup Creation Studio.

Capturing this gleaming light and its healthy glow, the collection is an uplifting edit of radiant shades. The two covetable highlighter palettes – one a satin-pink and rose-gold duo, the other a muted orange and coppery bronze – add instant glow. Also in the collection is the five-shade eyeshadow palette of matts and shimmers in rosewood brown, coppers and subtle coral.

Then there are the Rouge Coco Flash lip balms ranging from beige to pink, and the sheer colour sticks and nail polishes that add tantalising pops of colour.

To celebrate the collection’s release, Chanel makeup artist Victoria Baron has created eight looks at once youthful and optimistic, yet also wearable and sophisticated.

Copper Accents

ABOVE: Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette in Golden, $121; Rouge Coco Flash in Late Sun, $75.

Shades of copper add interest and warmth to skin in an instant.

“This look uses the copper in the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette,” says Baron, who enlisted a small angle brush and “tapped the shade tight against the lash line”. Baron finished the eyes by curling the lashes and applying mascara in black.

Translucent Skin

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash in Sun Bliss, $75; Noir Allure Mascara, $73.

“You don’t always have to wear a lot of makeup to get a beautiful look,” says Baron. For this look, Baron prepped the skin with Hydra Beauty Micro Sérum, then added Coco Flash lip balm in Sun Bliss and finished with Chanel Noir Allure mascara. “It’s so fresh and beautiful.”

“Sometimes, showcasing beautiful skin with just a hint of colour on the lips is enough”

– Chanel makeup artist Victoria Baron

In The Flush

Soft copper eyes and a warm flush give this look drama.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Golden Glow Powder in Soleil Couchant, $112; Les Beiges/Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette in Golden, $121; Rouge Coco Flash in Sunset, $75.

“I used the Golden Glow Powder compact in Soleil Couchant,” explains Baron, who combined the shades with a fluffy brush “then went back over the top with the orange and coppery shades on their own to boost the intensity”.

For the eyes, Baron used the matt shades of the eye palette in Golden and finished with Rouge Coco Flash lip balm in Sunset.

Crimson Cues

Chanel Beauty Le Vernis in Incandescente, $49; Rouge Coco Flash in Sunset, $75.

A stunning red nail can both change and complete a look. “We used Le Vernis in Incandescente, which is a beautiful orangey-red shade,” says Baron.

“I wanted the skin to look really iridescent, so we used the gold in the eye palette as a cheek highlight.” The lips pulled the look together with a swipe of Rouge Coco Flash in Sunset, which Baron describes as “a sienna-toned pink”.

Balancing Act

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick in Reset and Refresh, $78 each.

Using watermelon hues on both eyes and lips perfectly balances this look.

“I used the Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick in Refresh on the eyes, buffing in the colour with a big fluffy brush before blending out the edges with fingers,” explains Baron, who finished off with black mascara. “For the lips I dabbed on the Colour Stick in Reset, which is a lovely orange.”

Punchy Pinks

Chanel makeup looks by makeup artist Victoria Baron inspired by the sunset and sunrise.
Chanel Rouge Coco Flash in Sun Kiss, $75; Les Beiges Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette in Golden, $121.

Make a statement with lips swiped with translucent pinky-red. “This Rouge Coco Flash in Sun Kiss is such a beautiful colour,” says Baron, who added gold eyeshadow at both the inner and outer corners of the eyes to complete the look.

Chanel Le Vernis in Incandescente, $49; Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick in Reset, $78; Les Beiges Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette in Golden, $121; Rouge Coco Flash in Sun Kiss, $75; Les Beiges Healthy Golden Glow Powder in Soleil Couchant, $112.

Louis Vuitton & Pat McGrath To Officially Enter The World Of Beauty https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/makeup/pat-mcgrath-louis-vuitton-beauty/ Wed, 05 Mar 2025 22:17:49 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1275575 La Beauté Louis Vuitton will launch sooner than expected

The Autumn/Winter 2025 Fashion Month shows have traversed the streets of London, New York and Milan, to Paris, where the heritage houses are readying to present their latest collections. Behind the scenes, there are few figures whose fashion-adjacent work has played such a significant role in bringing these looks to life, than Dame Pat McGrath.

It’s only fitting then, that when Louis Vuitton was seeking a creative director to lead its much anticipated foray into cosmetics “the most influential makeup artist in the world” would be the one to oversee it.

“Working backstage for over 20 years at Louis Vuitton fashion shows, I am thrilled to now play such a key role in the launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton, which is the result of extraordinary craftmanship, creativity and innovation,” says Pat McGrath, Creative Director, Cosmetics at Louis Vuitton.

“The beauty universe is about so much more than just product, and what we are creating here will unlock a new level in luxury beauty.”

“La Beauté Louis Vuitton is a natural business evolution, driven by our meticulous attention to quality, formula and innovation. Through this new universe, we have the opportunity to further accompany clients in their everyday lives with purpose and pleasure, while continuing to celebrate our creativity and heritage.”, adds Pietro Beccari, Chairman and CEO, Louis Vuitton.

The newly-created role is the culmination of years of behind-the-scenes product development between Dame Pat McGrath and Louis Vuitton – all while continuing to oversee her eponymous label, Pat McGrath Labs.

So what exactly can we expect from the new collection? The debut launch will include 10 lip balms, 55 lipsticks and eight eye palettes, tapping the Louis Vuitton archives for inspiration.

And thankfully, with La Beauté Louis Vuitton set to launch later this year, we won’t have to wait much longer for our first look.

When it comes to the Academy Awards, it’s hard to keep your eyes off the fashion. However, if we drag our attention away, we’ll come to see some of the most memorable and glamorous Oscars beauty looks to ever grace a red carpet.

From Audrey Hepburn’s micro fringe at the 1954 Oscars, to Zoë Kravitz’s rendition of it in 2022, we see the styles that just keep coming back throughout the years.

As far as award ceremonies go, the Oscars is as much of a big deal as they get. Thus, we see many celebrities playing up the glamour, with chic, but not necessarily daring looks. It’s not about being the most ostentatious, it’s about exuding that Old Hollywood glamour and reminding loyal watchers of the gravitas of the movie star.

While the makeup is quite simple and glamourous, the hair is more playful. From Nicole Kidman’s 2004 updo that channelled a kind of curly mohawk (made oh-so-chic) to Halle Berry’s impressive afro at the 2017 awards, there have been so many hair looks that we can’t help but celebrate.

The makeup and hair trends may come and go over the eras, but these looks will forever have a place in our hearts.

Emma Stone, 2024

Emma Stone took home her second acting Oscar in 2024. While we adored her seafoam green Louis Vuitton gown, we also loved her rosy pink, pared back makeup.

The look was created by Emma’s make-up artist, Rachel Goodwin, with 100% Charlotte Tilbury products.

While Emma’s flawless complexion was achieved with a combination of creams, serums, mists, two shades of foundation and concealer, the highlight for us were her slightly rouged and highlighted cheeks, which were completed with the Beauty Light Wand in ‘Spotlight’ and the Matte Beauty Blush Wand in the shade ‘Pillow Talk Pink Pop’, both by Charlotte Tilbury.

Meanwhile, the lips used a combo of Lip Cheat lip liner in ’90s Pink’, Charlotte’s Hollywood Beauty Icon Lipstick K.I.S.S.I.N.G, also in ’90s Pink’, and finished with Pillow Talk Plumpgasm — which is yet to be released to the public.

You can read all the details of Emma’s make-up look, here.

These Lip Stains Will Give You The Perfect Just-Bitten Flush https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/best-lip-stains/ Fri, 31 Jan 2025 03:17:00 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/best-lip-and-cheek-stains One of the oldest, and best beauty products in our makeup bags.

The post These Lip Stains Will Give You The Perfect Just-Bitten Flush appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
In a world of viral celebrity beauty brands, we’re always looking for tried-and-true beauty products that are actually worth our money and time. And the lip stain might just be the most tried-and-true beauty product in the world.

The lip stain’s hashtag has racked up a cool 269 million views on TikTok, but those searching for a glorious just-bitten flush have been reaching for lip stains for centuries.

In Ancient Greece, “lipstick” was actually “lip stain,” a pigment derived from crushed berries. Given that makeup was frowned upon, women favoured these early lip stains for their longevity (no telltale smudging) and “natural” appearance. You can consider the lip stain the first no-makeup-makeup product.

Today, beauty lovers reach for lip stains for the same reason. They’re killer for achieving the trending “blurred lip” TikTok trend that emulates a soft, diffused appearance. Because they don’t sit “on top” of the lip, instead soak in, they don’t smudge, transfer, or bleed, making them perfect for long lunches and days at the office. And they cocktail perfectly with your favourite lip glosses if you want to create a colour that wears well throughout the day but still wants some shine. Even better? Most lip stains can be used on the cheeks in a pinch, making them a double-duty beauty.

If you haven’t picked up, we’re team lip stain here at marie claire and have spent a fair whack of time testing and trialling the best on the market. So, if you want to dabble, we’ve rounded up the best lip stains on the market.

2025’s Top Lip Stains

 1. Milk Makeup, Cooling Water Jelly Tint, $44.00, Sephora (here’s why)
 2. Benefit Benetint Cheek & Lip Tint, $55.00, Sephora (here’s why)
 3. Wonderskin, Wonder Blading Peel & Reveal Lip Stain, 39.85 at Amazon (here’s why)

The Best Lip Stains Of 2025

Milk Makeup Cooling Cooling Water Jelly Tint
(Credit: Sephora )

01

Milk Makeup, Cooling Water Jelly Tint

from $44.00 at Sephora

It doesn’t get much more viral than this Jelly Tint from Milk Makeup, but we can confirm this product has earned its 32.7 million views on TikTok. Dab any one of the four ultra-flattering shades on for a refreshing burst of colour that lasts all day (you can use it on your cheeks, too!)

Benefit Benetint Lip & Cheek Colour

02

Benefit Benetint Cheek & Lip Tint

from $55.00 at Sephora

It’s a classic that’s been popping up in the handbags of cool girls everywhere in 2024. While it doesn’t quite date back to Ancient Greece, Benetint is one of the oldest commercially available lip tints on the market. The product was originally developed for exotic dancers who wanted a multipurpose lip stain (that could be used for lips, cheeks and nips) in 1976. Viola, Benetint. While the formula is now available in multiple gorgeous shades, we love the buildable raspberry original and can attest to its “lasts all day” properties.

03

Wonderskin, Wonder Blading Peel & Reveal Lip Stain

from $39.85 at Amazon

If you have TikTok and you like makeup, chances are you’ve seen Wonderskin all over your FYP. The long-wearing stain goes on a little like blue rubber (check out a tutorial) only to be “peeled” off to reveal a punchy hit of colour. Available in multiple shades, Wonder Blading Peel & Reveal is a viral product that lives up to its name.

Victoria Beckham, Bitten Lip Tint
(Credit: Victoria Beckham )

04

Victoria Beckham, Bitten Lip Tint

from $66.00 at Victoria Beckham

It’s a splurge, but Posh Spice knows a thing or two about creating luxury, high-performing beauty products. Her lip stains are no different. If you’ve previously found lip stains a little drying, this is the product for you. Packed with hyaluronic acid, this luxe lip stain has an immediate plumping and hydrating effect to complement the gorgeous flush of colour it leaves on the lips. We particularly love the doe-foot applicator for precise application.

Stila, Calligraphy Lip Stain

05

Stila, Calligraphy Lip Stain

from $42.00 at Mecca

If one of your pain points with lip stains has been a lack of precision, the Stila Calligraphy Lip Stain is the perfect product for you. The clever “blade” tip allows for precise lip lining and an even wash of colour. We’re particularly enamoured with the shade range. The ultraviolet “Susan” is a must-have, but there are 16 options to choose from.

Dior Addict Lip Tint

06

Dior, Lip Addict Lip Tint

from $64.00 at Myer

Another luxe buy, the Dior Lip Addict Lip Tint, is famous for its longevity. While it applies like a gloss, it soaks in, leaving a transfer-free colour on the lips and making you feel like you’re wearing nothing (perfect for date night).

Huda Beauty Lip Blush Creamy Lip and Cheek Stain

07

Huda Beauty Creamy Lip And Cheek Stain

from $43.00 at Sephora

This lip stain has a creamy texture and gives a long-wearing, transfer-proof hit of colour. The unique, precision doe-foot applicator hugs the curves of your lips for extra definition. Available in five shades.

Available at:

Clarins Water Lip Stain Gloss

08

Clarins Water Lip Stain

from $45.00 at Myer

The Clarins lip tint has an ultra-light texture but leaves a long-lasting colour on the lips. Despite the name, it leaves a matte finish (consider it Benetint in a convenient tube). With organic aloe vera and raspberry water, the formula leaves lips nourished and soft.

Available at:

Ere Perez Beetroot Cheek & Lip Tint

09

Ere Perez Beetroot Cheek &. Lip Tint

from $44.00 at The Iconic

This water-based antioxidant-packed serum leaves a vibrant flush on lips and cheeks. We adore “Fun” a bright fuchsia pink shade for summer.

How To Apply A Lip Stain

Like any lip product, lip stains are best applied on well-exfoliated lips. The night before you use your lip stain, consider giving your lips a gentle exfoliation with a sugar scrub (you can make this at home with olive oil and sugar). This will ensure your lips are fresh and ready to soak up your stain; just wipe off any excess moisture that might stop the stain from absorbing (you can always apply a gloss or balm afterwards).

How Long Does A Lip Stain Last?

How long a lip stain lasts depends on what you’re up to. If you’re attending a five-course brunch or enjoying a passionate makeout session, you might find your lip stain lasts a little less long than usual. However, lip stains will last the longest of all lip products because they don’t sit on top of the lip; they soak in. In our experience, you can expect anything between 5-7 hours of wear.

Chanel gets us thinking outside the box with its latest Spring Summer 2025 makeup collection. Created by Comètes Collective member Ammy Drammeh, this new range focuses on playful colour and beautiful skin finishes for near endless makeup possibilities.

Makeup is such a great way to play with colour, after all, every look is both changeable and fleeting. Nothing is permanent with makeup – and that impermanence gives us a certain kind of freedom to just go with a whim.

Image: CHANEL

This week, Chanel has launched its Spring-Summer 2025 Makeup Collection and it encourages us to bounce between two camps: tone-on-tone makeup and playful audacious colour. Let me explain.

Titled “ColourMatch” this collection from Ammy Drammeh, one third of Chanel Beauty’s Comètes Collective, and the Chanel Makeup Creation Studio, asks us to try one of two things: monochrome (where only one shade is used all over the face), or bold colour combinations.

Image: CHANEL

This playful range is one of my favourite collections to come from the Comètes Collective since the group of expert makeup artists formed in 2023. The reason is simple: it ticks so many boxes.

Inspired by some of Mademoiselle Chanel’s signature colour schemes – namely colour blocking and twin sets – this is a makeup collection that lends itself to so many of the looks we want to try this summer.

Tonal looks

Monochrome, the technique which focuses on a singular shade, is not just smart, it’s very, very pretty.

We all know that drilling down to one shade, whether it’s in fashion or sticking to the one shade on eyes, lips, cheeks and nails, not only looks incredibly chic, it can also save precious minutes in prep work. In this collection there are juicy pinks and peach that will do monochrome well without feeling daunting for those trying the method for the first time.

chanel mono shadow

There is the new Rouge Coco Baume in Tender Peach, which has more shine and hydration that previously, will be a shade you reach for time and time again, while the matte beige eyeshadow and eye pencil both win for everyday wear.

Colour combinations to try

There are also moments in this collection to play with hue. Going on the concept of twin sets, where each of the Ombre Essentielle eyeshadow monos partner up with a corresponding eye pencil, there is plenty to love.

chanel eyeliner

Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Longwear Eyeliner And Kohl Pen in Mauve Intense, $52 at CHANEL

A shimmering mint green eyeshadow and nail polish (definitely give this pretty green a try on your toenails at the very least) feel fresh and fun for right now. While the jewel-like purple, from the lilac-toned eyeshadow, to the punchy deep purple kohl eyeliner feel set to become favourites this season. Incidentally, both team beautifully with the sheer lip balm which tinges lips rather than overpowers them.

Chanel Ombre Essentielle Eyeshadow In Menthe À L’eau, $58 at CHANEL

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Artiste, $49 at CHANEL

Focus on skin

What I adore about this collection though is that it’s all tied together with skin – your best skin too. If you look at nothing else from the range, consider investing in the (satisfyingly) oversize multi-use eyeshadow and highlight palette. With shades of pink coral, rosy gold, a pinky shimmer and a copper-flecked gold, the tone-on-tone nature of this palette makes it incredibly flattering for us all.

Chanel Jeux De Lumières Multi-use Eyeshadow and Highlighter Palette, $148 at CHANEL

Promising to be a workhorse in your kit, the palette adds instant warmth to skin, cheeks and eyes, while the shimmering nature of the four shades adds gleam to skin (add it to your decolletage and shoulders too) in the very best way. Another bonus? It can be applied sheer like a second skin or layered up for a bold radiance.

What’s exciting about this collection is how it effortlessly weaves in and out of playful pops of hue and beautiful tonal neutrals for looks that are not only flattering for everyday wear but also, when you want it, just a bit thrilling too.

Glow and Tell: The Expert Brow Tips That Changed My Life https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/anastasia-beverly-hills-brow-tips/ Wed, 11 Dec 2024 07:12:09 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1269102 Brow queen, Anastasia Sloane, schooled me on arch perfection

I am all about being kind to ourselves, but like most of us, there are parts of myself that I can put under the microscope and worry about. Do they look ok? How can I make mine look like hers? Do mine even look normal?

For me, it’s my brows. I lament that they’re not thick enough in this era of full arches. Mine also don’t give natural fluffiness to match up with the current thick and bushy ideals.

Some of this is possibly my own doing. Having lived through the thin brow era of Kate Moss back in the 90s, teeny brows were hot and tweezing to distraction was as normal a beauty habit as applying mascara. We plucked.

Thankfully, early in my career, one kind brow professional told me that brows should look like sisters not twins, and I will never get complete symmetry. It was the advice I needed to step away from the mirror and put down the tweezers for good. There is little more satisfying than tweezing out brow hairs, but in my case, I honestly just can’t be trusted. Once I start, it’s hard to stop myself so I handed over the keys to my brows to the professionals. It’s easily been over 10 years since I last tweezed my own brows. I’ve also used many brow serums to try and get them back to their former fullness.

Sally Hunwick

That said, I don’t always get to the professionals in a timely manner – so I have had to learn how to literally put my best brows forward with clever brow trickery. When it comes to brow products, I am all in. Whether it’s brow pomades, brow gels, brow laminators, brow thickeners, brow pencils, powders or mascaras, hand them over, I’ll give them a go..

So when I was told that Anastasia Soare, founder of Anastasia Beverly Hills, and queen of brows for countless A-listers (Oprah, Kris Jenner, Cindy Crawford and Kim Kardashian are all personal friends of Soare) I am keen to meet and, yes, glean her for any brow intel I haven’t picked up as a beauty journalist over the years.

We meet at the Park Hyatt in Sydney and Soare – who is equal parts fabulous, fun and beauty boss – answered all my burning brow questions. In short: Yes “thick and fluffy brows that look natural” are what we’re all still after. The thick solid brows of five years ago are dead. We should leave our brow maintenance to the professionals. And many of us are guilty of over-tweezing. “Majority of women over-tweeze their eyebrows,” says Soare. “Many are guilty of that.” Not just me then.

Anastasia also did my brows in a way that no one has ever done them before.

Anastasia Soare and Sally Hunwick

Proving her brow chops, after my session with Soare using her cult-status Anastasia Beverly Hills brow products, my brows were noticeably thick, fluffy and even. They literally changed the shape of my face and I looked younger instantly.

“What I like about your eyebrows is that you still have a beautiful arch,” Soare tells me as she worked away at building fullness. It’s a comment that made me look at my brows with new appreciation – perhaps they’re not that bad after all. It also dawned on me that the way we perceive ourselves can be quite different to how others do. Clearly, many lessons learnt. (And for any gaps, there is always a few well-placed flicks of a brow pencil to even things up.)

How To Shape Your Brows, According To Anastasia Beverly Soare

If you have thin brows. “You definitely need some Brow Wiz, which is a brow pencil to create hair-like strokes. BrowFreeze Gel or our Brow Wax are also great for defining and thickening brows.”

When you don’t have time. “If you are the type of person that doesn’t have much time in the morning, I suggest the Brow Definer. It’s a three in one and it’s very easy to use to get full brows fast.”

01

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer

If you have thick brows: “If you have fuller eyebrows, you need a highlighter and a clear brow gel just to hold them and keep them together.”

Enlist a brush (and know how to use it): “Brow brushes are so important, that’s why whenever I bring out a product, I design a brush to go with it. For the Dip Brow pomade, use the spatula end of the brow brush and take very little bit into the lid, then don’t put it directly onto your brows, instead brush it into your brows using the brush. You want to create little hairs to fill the brow and create the arch.”

02

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade

from $35 at Adore Beauty

Find out what works for you: “Less is better and it’s all about placement. You want it to look natural so don’t try it for the first time right before you go out. Practice first.”

Trim but only when required: “I trim but only one [hair], not the rest.”

Highlighter is your best brow friend: “You don’t need to worry if you haven’t created a straight line [of baby hairs using your pencil], because then we go with the highlighter and clean it all up.”

The new Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Studio is located at David Jones, 310 Bourke St, Melbourne, VIC.

The 3 Beauty Products I Still Wear On Sweaty Summer Days https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/summer-beauty-routine/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 01:57:23 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1265437 These three products help cure my summertime sadness

The post The 3 Beauty Products I Still Wear On Sweaty Summer Days appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
I am not a summer person. It’s taken me years to finally admit that to myself, but it’s true. I’m a winter girlie. An autumn girlie. A chilly spring day girlie. But a summer girlie, I am not. In Australia, that’s basically considered treason, since so much of our nation’s identity is wrapped up in sun-drenched imagery and warm days spent on the beach.

But one of the big reasons I don’t like summer (besides the sticky, sweaty feeling that’s unavoidable on the morning commute), is because of the effect it has on my beauty routine. I’m not too proud to admit that, even as a beauty editor, I struggle to adapt my beauty routine — and, in particular, my makeup routine — to the humid days that plague Sydney for five months of the year.

It’s for this reason that I’ve formulated a beauty routine that involves minimal products and doesn’t feel too heavy on my face when the sweating starts. This is a particularly handy three-product no-makeup routine for beach days and sweaty days when I don’t have to front up to the office. My goals are simple: glowing, fresh, respectable. Essentially, I want to look like a glowing Hailey Bieber who just naturally wakes up looking luminous and makeup-free. Ahead, I share the three products that help me achieve a similar look without slathering on makeup.

Ultra Violette Queen Screen

01

Ultra Violette Queen Screen

$52 at Sephora

Best for: sun protection

The Ultra Violette Queen Screen is a cult sunscreen that’s widely loved for its luminous finish on the skin. It’s a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50+ UVA and UVB protection, and has the texture of a lightweight serum.

It’s glowy without being sparkly and is pumped with skin-loving ingredients like vitamins B5, C, E and F to hydrate and protect the skin. On days when I feel like I need a little bit of coverage, I’ll dab some concealer under my eyes, but you can also wear it on its own and bask in the glow.

Natio Mascara
Natio Mascara

02

Natio Miracle Lash Twist Brush Mascara

$19.95 at Natio

Best for: volume and definition

A slick of mascara can go a long way to making you look more awake, which is why I never skip it, even on sweaty days. I prefer to focus my mascara application at the root of my lashes, rather than applying for length, and this new volumising mascara from Natio is a great pick for this purpose.

The spiral brush allows you to build volume easily, and though you can run it through your lashes for next-level lengthening, I love wiggling the wand at the root of my lashes to add definition close to the lash line.

If you’re particularly sensitive to smudging mascara, we suggest also checking out Natio’s tubing mascara, the Precision Tubing Mascara, which is available in black and brown.

Lanolips balm

03

Lanolips Tinted Balm SPF 30

$14.95 at Sephora

Best for: a touch of colour

In the summer months, I’ll add SPF into my routine wherever I can get it. Applying a big glug of sunscreen after my skincare is a no-brainer, but tossing an SPF lip balm into your handbag is also a good idea, so you’re never caught without.

This one from Lanolips has a sheer red tint, so it adds a touch of colour to the lip. I love also dabbing a little bit onto my cheeks when I feel like my complexion needs a slight blush, and even over my eyelids for a wet look. As it’s a balm, it will also add a glowy sheen to any skin it touches, which is perfect for summer.

How Embracing Minimal Makeup Helped Pamela Anderson Reclaim Her Sense Of Self https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/pamela-anderson-makeup-free/ Thu, 24 Oct 2024 05:15:03 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1264582 "I wanted to remember who I was"

The post How Embracing Minimal Makeup Helped Pamela Anderson Reclaim Her Sense Of Self appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
When the world first witnessed actress Pamela Anderson makeup-free at Paris Fashion Week in 2023, the star was genuinely shocked at the amount of press coverage it garnered.

In an interview with Vogue, Anderson’s explained that her reason for going makeup-free was a simple one – she wanted her outfit speak for itself, and avoid the time suck of a full makeup look – which is incredibly relatable. Since then, however, Anderson’s initial thoughts seem to have developed a deeper sense of realisation.

Appearing on the Drew Barrymore Show, Anderson admitted that the decision wasn’t as easy as it first appeared. “I’ve had my little, you know, journey with it, but we all are our own worst critics,” she shared, before explaining how it eventually allowed her to “feel free.”

Speaking about the unexpected response she’s received since, she said: “When people started coming up to me and talking about it, I through, ‘well, this is a great message’, you know? To really peel it back and find out who I was again. I wanted to remember who I was.”

After all, seeing Pamela Anderson makeup-free felt like a stark departure from the iconic beauty looks we’d come to associate with the actress over the years. And as it turns out, this was the exact reason for Anderson’s change of heart.

“I found I played characters my whole life. I was painfully shy as a kid, even doing Playboy, for instance, was a huge leap of faith for me,” she shared with Barrymore.

“This is what my fantasy of what a model is, or a playmate is, or a rock star’s wife is, or what anything is. I’m going to do it the best, and I’ve been playing these characters along the way.”

The realisation led to a period of reflection for the actress, who, in a quest to rediscover her sense of self, retreated to her grandmother’s home where she spent time “getting into nature and going back to the trees that knew me since birth.”

It was during this time that Anderson realised how empowered she had started to feel. “I started realising, ‘Oh, I feel great as me, I don’t want people to think of me as all those cartoon characters I created for protection,'” before continuing, “This is the best time in my life. I feel so… excited about life again.”

A modern day beauty icon, Madelyn Cline is beloved for her bronzed, glow-getting complexion (she swears by serum-based formulas), sultry eye looks (that truly mesmerise) and perfectly quaffed bombshell blowouts. Whilst it may be her striking looks that pull focus on the red carpet, she reveals she likes to keep things a little more low-key at home. Between filming her mega-hit Netflix series Outer Banks, the Revlon ambassador speaks with marie claire Australia to talk makeup must-haves, a skincare-first approach to beauty and filming season four of Outer Banks.

My beauty ethos… is good skincare equals good makeup. My skincare regimen is all about simplicity. Alongside my beloved moisturiser and sunscreen, I integrate a HigherDOSE Red Light Face Mask.

My favourite red-carpet look… is a smoky cat eye. My makeup artist Jen [Tioseco] and I always prioritise eyes and build everything else around that. At the recent Vanity Fair Oscars Party we dialled up the eye drama using the Revlon ColorStay Day To Night Eyeshadow Quad in Addictive and defined my eyes with the ColorStay Multiplayer Liquid-Glide Eye Pencil in Checkmate for the signature liner. The final touch was a few coats of mascara to make the eyes pop.

Day-to-day… I’ll always fall back on dewy, bronzed skin and a natural lip. I love the clean makeup trend.

To add colour… I love the Revlon Illuminance Gel Serum Blush, which gives that sun-kissed glow, and the Super Lustrous Lipstick in Daylight Delight. It’s hydrating and gives that perfect natural look I’m all about.

My beauty cupboard… would probably send anyone else into a coma because it’s so disorganised. But it is a controlled chaos; I know where everything is.

I find inspiration… everywhere: social media, classic beauty icons, my mom (she’s the queen of self-care) and experimenting on my own. I see makeup as a tool for self-expression; it’s truly about how I feel on the day.

While filming… I often have to tweak my routine. It’s crucial to keep my skin hydrated and protected. I rely heavily on … [sunscreen], since we’re always in the sun. Deep conditioning hair treatments have also become my best friend [on set].

Shooting the fourth season of Outer Bankswas the longest it has ever taken to film a season on the show. It has been so much fun to spend an extended period of time with the cast and crew. They really are family and I’m so grateful to share this experience with them. I hold this show very near and dear to my heart.

My Self-care looks like… “everything showers”, couch “rotting”, bingeing [reality TV series] Below Deck, spending time with my family, face masks, cooking, movies, candles, wine and naps. I’m very low-key and value the times I can unplug.

I feel most beautiful when… I check in with myself. Some days it looks like just [doing] skincare; other days it looks like high glam. It’s really just about doing what you can to feel your best self. Every day is different.

5 TikTok Approved Beauty Hacks To Save You Time In The Morning https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/makeup/time-saving-beauty-hacks-tiktok/ Tue, 10 Sep 2024 13:46:52 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1205669 The ultimate pre-work beauty routine.

The post 5 TikTok Approved Beauty Hacks To Save You Time In The Morning appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Anyone who knows me, knows I’m not a morning person. Like at all. In fact, I’m the opposite: a serial alarm-snoozer. My usual being a 5x alarm snooze, but on a Monday morning (my least favourite time of the week) I’ll push it to 8 snoozes. The cost of my precious extra Zs? I’ve shaved a cool 20-minutes from prep time. Eek!

So, out of necessity, I’ve had to turn to my Tik Tok FYP for beauty hacks that w to cheat my way into looking fresher than I feel. These beauty trends are so simple and effective, they’ve become a mainstay in my regular morning regime too.

5 Time-Saving Beauty Hacks

1. Skin Flooding

True to sound, this trend is all about boosting hydration and quenching skin’s thirst. The twist? Between each layer of product, you’ll be applying a light splash of water or gentle mist. While skin is still damp, follow closely with humectant-rich serums and creams (think ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, peptides and ceramides). Damp skin allows ingredients to penetrate deeper in the epidermis layer of skin, and maximises their efficacy. Finish with a liberal slathering of barrier repair cream to seal in all your hard moisture-work.

Why I love it: Every makeup artist I’ve ever spoken to has said the same thing, ‘the key to a flawless finish lies in a good base’. And skin flooding ensures a pretty good one! My typically dry skin laps up all the moisture and I’m left looking dewy and firm for hours. On makeup-free days, I like to re-spritz in the afternoon to keep things looking fresh.

The Best Products For Skin Flooding

Avène Thermal Spring Water 300ml, $28.99 at Adore Beauty

Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist, $40 at Jurlique

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum, $28 at The Ordinary

2. Underpainting

There’s nothing more daunting than the prospects of putting on a full face at 7am. I like to cheat a full face using celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips‘ famed ‘underpainting’ technique. The base-makeup strategy centres around applying contour, highlighter, blush and concealer before your foundation to give you a lit-from-within finish. The TikTok version? Instead of finishing with foundation, buff product into the skin and leave as is. The results are very comparable to a full face with enhanced breathability and dewiness.

Why I love it: I don’t love wearing foundation everyday, but the allure of sculpted cheekbones and bright under eyes is constant. I find this replicates a full face on me really well. I love how it evens complexion and adds a sun-kissed glow to the skin. I tend to gravitate towards cream products (they blend so seamlessly) and like to enlist a purse-friendly face palette for on-the-go touch ups.

The Best Products For Underpainting

Make Up For Ever HD Skin All-in-one Palette, $145 at Adore Beauty

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit, $76 at Anastasia Beverly Hills

3. Blush Draping

Unlike traditional blush placement (centred on the apples of the cheek), blush draping emphasises the cheekbone and temple. With similar placement to highlighter, start at the outer half of your cheek and drag pigment upwards and along the temple. This will give the illusion of a lifted cheekbone. Finish by blending above the brow or into the eye socket for high impact.

Why I love it: This will take you from drab to fab in a matter of seconds. I love the lifting effect (it’s second to none) and the flush of colour is key to a youthful, glowy look. It’s a great way to instantly elevate any makeup look.

4. Soap Brows

A universally flattering brow. Mimicking the effect of a brow lamination, soap brows are defined by brow’s brushed up, fluffy appearance. Aptly named, the technique involves brushing a soap-dosed spoolie through your brows, laying the hairs up and outwards. It works surprisingly well and has longer term hold then traditional brow products. Thanks to its viral take-off (and longstanding relevancy), cult-favourite beauty brands Benefit and Ardell have jumped on the bandwagon offering a gel or wax formula to recreate the look. One swipe and go!

Why I love it: Any product that can be applied while on my commute AND lasts all day, is a winner! I’ve found Benefit Cosmetics’ new Precisely, My Brow Wax ticks all the boxes in terms of staying-power and hold, while also given a natural, non-sticky finish.

The Best Soap Brows Products

Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Wax, $48 at Sephora

Ardell Brow Glue, $16.99 at Adore Beauty

5. Undone Waves

Not your typical messy ‘do, dirty undone waves is a hybrid between the modern wet-look trend and 70s-esque bohemian tresses. Effortless, undone and chic. Gossip Girl‘s Serena Van Der Woodsen is a great reference point for the style. To achieve the low-maintenance look, enlist a curling tong or waver to shape front framing pieces and work a dry shampoo, texture spray or mousse into the roots for boosted volume (the more volume the better!). Finish with a dry-hairspray for a soft-matte finish, steer clear of any glossy oils.

Why I love it: For obvious reasons…this one has made its way into my regular rotation. It’s a lazy girl’s saviour for third-day hair and feels much more elevated than a typical dishevelled ponytail and less-maintenance than the ever-trendy high-gloss slicked back bun.

Celine Beauté launched last year, marking the fashion brand’s first foray into beauty. Created by Celine’s Artistic Director Heidi Slimane, the timeless accessories have been designed to house our beauty products in the chicest of ways, for years to come.

From today, Australians can add a Celine lipstick to the want list. Effortlessly sophisticated, the Le Rouge collection of 15 satin-finish shades offers up a hydrating, long-wear formulation that’s been created with 89% natural ingredients.

The finish? Lips get an enviable colour payoff with a beautiful satin finish.

A perfect shade of red lipstick is a mainstay in any Parisian girl’s makeup kit, and Rouge Triomphe – a bold and fiery red which Celine launched as a singular shade back in March – answers the brief.

For daily wear, we recommend the neutral shade in the range. Called Le Peau Nue, this classic shade is highlighted in the brand’s Triomphe film.

Keen to French-ify your makeup kit? Celine’s new Le Rouge lipstick collection is available at celine.com from today.

5 Gold Medal-Worthy Beauty Moments From The Olympic Games https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/best-olympic-beauty-moments/ Mon, 29 Jul 2024 05:26:05 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1256842 From anime eyes to razor sharp acrylics these Olympians are shaking things up at the games with OTT beauty looks.

There have been plenty of breathtaking wins at the Paris Olympics so far, with the Matilda’s clawing their way back to victory against Zambia, Jess Fox’s gold medal in the K1 slalom final, and the Australian women’s freestyle relay team setting a new Olympic record for the sport. But there’s another competition bubbling away in our brains that we’re keeping our eye on. Some of the biggest stars of the Paris Olympic Games are card-carrying beauty lovers who’ve become known for their statement looks.

Given female athletes already face plenty of gendered discrimination in the world of sport, it’s unsurprising they’ve traditionally eschewed visible makeup unless their area of competition calls for it. After all, we live in a world where male commentators are still comfortable making cosmetics-related gendered gags during women’s competitions.

But Olympians like Chase Jackson, Sha’Carri Richardson and Ilona Mayer are daring the men to comment. Whether it’s Chace Jackson indulging in bold, playful looks, Sha’Carrii Richardson using hair and nails to tell highly personal stories or the US Women’s Rugby team angling for Fenty-freebies on TikTok (relatable!), there’s plenty of beauty goodness to see and look forward to at the Paris Olympics so far.

So, here are our favourite athletes who prove there’s room for glamour amongst the grit.

The 2024 Paris Olympics Breakout Beauty Stars

Chase Jackson

Chase Jackson is a track and field star and is competing in the Paris Olympics for shotput. She’s making a statement on the track with her eye makeup, showing that softness (and even silliness) can work in harmony with strength. Jackson has multiple anime-inspired tattoos, and her beauty looks feature Sailor Moon elements with delicate butterfly wings. Jackson paints with hand flowers and sweeps of hot pink. She’ll be taking the field on the 8th of August for the women’s shot put competition, and we can’t wait to see the beauty look she lands.

Sha’Carri Richardson

American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has become famous for her uber-long nail extensions on the track. But for the for the sprinter, beauty is more than just a bit of fun.

In 2023, Richardson used a viral wig toss to announce her return to the sport after being excluded from the Tokyo Olympic Games after testing positive for THC. The sprinter then told Vogue about using beauty to connect with her family; sharing with the publication she got into nails because of her grandmother. She has also spoken extensively about her close relationship with her hairstylist Key Rentz, an Orlando-based braider. “Key gives me an energy that, even while she’s doing my hair, I can feel her genuineness going into my scalp.”

If her patriotic nails at the Opening Ceremony were anything to go by, Richardson’s acrylics will be firmly in place when she competes in the Women’s 100m sprint on Friday, 2nd of August and Saturday, 3rd of August.

Synchronised “Artistic” Swimmers

Artistic swimming, commonly known as synchronized swimming, combines elements of ballet, swimming, acrobatics and presentation and it’s the last part that requires a whole lot of waterproof hair and makeup products. Wonder how all that red lipstick, black liner and sleek hair look to stay in place? Olympian Anita Alvarez recently told Vogue that metric tonnes of Knox Gelatin are required to give the lacquered, helmet-like hold to swimmer’s hair, along with plenty of bobby pins. She added that they favour waterproof Makeup Forever products to get the team from the water to the podium without a lash out of place.

The artistic swimming competition starts on the 6th of August and runs through to the 8th.

Shirine Boukli

French Shirene Boukli won a bronze medal in Judo last week, accepting her medal with a sparkling spile.

The US Women’s Rugby Team And Fenty

We all love a #gifted beauty product, and the US women’s Rugby team are no different. Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty is an official partner of the Paris Olympics, but they’re gifting beauty starter kits to volunteers, not Olympians. Ilona Maher posted the team touching up their faces, tagging Fenty Beauty with the question, “Can we have a fun gift bag?” proving “nobody is immune from beauty fomo.

An Expert’s Tips For A Bridal Beauty Look That Lasts All Day https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/wedding-makeup-advice/ Tue, 23 Jul 2024 07:34:57 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1256300 Say "I do" to these tips.

The post An Expert’s Tips For A Bridal Beauty Look That Lasts All Day appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
When you think of your wedding day, chances are you imagine yourself looking and feeling your best, and looking and feeling like you. After all, it’s nice to meet your partner at the end of the aisle looking like the (best version) of yourself.

Years ago, doing your bridal makeup was considered a bold move. However, millennials and Gen Z are increasingly ditching many conventional wedding traditions. Call it a zeitgeist shift, or call it canny cost-cutting but weddings don’t look like they used to.

Connected to this has been a preference for more natural-looking bridal beauty, which has left many wondering if they need the services of a professional makeup artist to achieve a look they’ll be happy with.

The preference is reflected in the prevalence of the “doing my makeup for my wedding” tag, which has appeared in 63.7 million posts on TikTok as chronically online brides embrace the “get ready with me” culture. But that doesn’t mean there’s no place for wedding makeup advice from experts as the big day approaches (if anything, there’s more).

@francescahung I had the best morning singing and hanging out with my beautiful friends whilst doing my makeup for my wedding. 🤍💒 This is exactly what I had envisioned and I’m so so happy I trusted my gut and did it myself! Felt like we were back in highschool gettjng ready to go out together 😂 #grwm #weddingmakeup #doingmyownweddingmakeup #doingmyownbridalmakeup ♬ original sound – Francesca Hung

No matter how natural your beauty look on your wedding day is, there are tweaks you can make to ensure it lasts longer and looks as radiant in real life as it does on camera.

So, we tapped one of Sydney’s top bridal makeup artist for some wedding day makeup tips, read on and you’ll be well prepared to tackle one of beauty’s biggest DIY projects on your big day.

Your Must-Have Wedding Makeup Advice

Katie Moore is a bridal makeup artist who specialises in wedding makeup looks that straddle the line between natural and glam. Essentially? She’s a master of “you but better beauty.”

Moore, who did her makeup for her wedding, says that far from being an added stressor, taking time on the big day can provide a moment of reprieve. “Find a nice quiet space with natural light that’s free of distractions and interruption, pop some nice music on, and take it slow,” she advises. ” It can be such a beautiful sacred moment to have some time to yourself.”

Moore also advises sticking to what you know you feel good in. “You’re not recreating the wheel with your wedding makeup look. Stick to something that makes you feel like you.”

Here are her tips and top products.

Bridal Skin Prep:

Moore, working on a smooth canvas during the lead-up to your wedding will save you time. “Skin prep is key; in the lead-up to the wedding, I really focused on my decolletage and neck – I also had a fairy dust facial at Bellaméres. If there’s one time to splurge on a facial, it’s a few weeks out from your wedding!”

For at-home care, Moore loves Dr Dennis Gross Peel Pads, ($28-249.00) which promote skin cell turnover, keep pores clear, and refine skin texture without causing irritation. She also called on the expertise of Amy Jean, an Eastern Suburbs Brow Expert, for a “brow colour match.” While we often think of brow technicians as masters of plucking and tweezing, a good brow studio should be able to tone your brows to your hair, a small detail that will pick up in photos.

While skin prep for the day will change depending on your skin type, ensure whatever moisturiser you use provides plenty of hydration. Moore loves the Charlotte Tilbury, Water Cream ($149.00) or the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré ($47.00)for dryer skin types.

Bridal Foundation

When it comes to foundation, resist the temptation to apply one product all over the phase. “Customising coverage means applying foundation where it’s needed most, classically the T-Zone where we experience redness and see texture while using less product on the outer parameters of the face for a “real skin” finish. Using two shades of concealer, one for your under eyes and one for any blemishes, will create a more seamless and natural finish and leave you feeling more like you’re most glowing.

Moore used Charlotte Tilbury, Beautiful Skin Foundation ($70.00), a balmy medium-coverage foundation layered over Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer ($96.00), a product she rates for its waterproofing properties.

Bridal Blush and Bronzer:

When it comes to blush and bronzer, ” Blend, blend, and blend again! Focus on having no hard edges.” Moore says that after applying your blush and bronzer, you can give it a final blend with the brush you used for foundation or concealer.

Moore opted for a liquid blush, specifically Nars, Afterglow Liquid Blush in “Dolce Vita” ($53.00). This product is a matte liquid blush with a thin consistency that gives colour without adding layers of emollience that can compromise the longevity of your base. For bronzer, she reached for Chanel, Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream-Gel Bronzer ($91.00), a sheer bronzer that can be used to sculpt and give the skin a tawny sunkissed look.

With cameras flashing, it can be tempting to reach for the contour stick, but Moore says if you’re a novice, it’s best not to make your wedding day your trial run.

Wedding Day Eye Makeup:

Eyes are where you can have fun and experiment on your wedding day – just ensure you do so in the lead-up and not on the day. A few guiding principles? A top bridal makeup tip? Tightlining. The technique creates a denser lashing and adds definition without creating a smokey eye. Work an eyeliner pencil between the lashes all the way along for Bambi-esque eyes without a whole lot of product.

Then, using a soft pencil at the lashline and smudging it out will also “anchor” a look, whether you choose to follow with a soft wash of colour or opt for something more glam.

Lashes:

Moore’s biggest “don’t”? Waterproof mascara. “Lots of people think waterproof mascara should be the go-to for wedding days, but mascaras aren’t waterproof; they’re water “resistant”.” This means if you do find yourself tearing up small amounts of waterproof mascara, it will transfer, stain your under eyes, and make a mess of your existing lashes. Moore instead suggests using a tubing mascara, like the Kevyn Aucoin, The Volume Mascara ($53.00) falls away in clean segments, meaning the flakes can be dusted off and the mascara can be easily reapplied once you’ve wrapped your happy cry.

Lips:

Ensure your lips are well-prepped by applying a balm before you start your makeup. Then, work it off with a Q-tip. This will gently get rid of any dead skin, leaving you with a soft, supple pout. Dab with a tissue and apply your liner of choice all over the lips before following with lipstick. Moore opted for Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in “Pillow Talk” ($38.00) and Mecca Max Pout Pop Sheer Lipstick in “Top Down” ($23.00), a perfect nude combo.

Locking It In:

One artist’s tip to ensure your makeup lasts? Give your complexion a spritz of setting spray before you apply powder. This “dries off” your complexion products, cementing your base and requiring less powder. Then, apply powder minimally to the central areas of your face.

I’m A Beauty Writer And These Are The Makeup Must-haves I’m Buying From Amazon Prime Day https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/amazon-prime-day-makeup-sale/ Thu, 18 Jul 2024 11:20:01 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1255535 I've edited down my cart to the 8 makeup products everybody needs in their cupboard.

Confession time: I’m a bit of a makeup hoarder. I’ve always loved makeup (I was a teen during Beauty Bloggers heyday) and still find immense joy in discovering a new glitzy eye shimmer or hardworking primer. The perfect pillowy-soft liquid lip? I’ll take one in every colour! A brow gel that delivers lamination-level hold? Three please! You get the picture..

But after spending a decade road-testing, collecting and curating my dream collection, my cupboard is full. Think less Sofia Coppola messy-chic and more back-cupboard-of-Sephora scary. So I’ve spent the better part of the last 4 months Marie Kondo-ing my space. I’ve culled my 100+ lipstick collection to a not-so-humble-but-still-an-improvement 40 and tossed out all foundations over 3 years old (please don’t tell my derm I was still using them). There’s a whole lot more room in my cupboard, but I’ve challenged myself to only bring home the products that give me joy and that I genuinely need. Instead of trialling a whole lipliner range, one shade will do and my mascaras rotate on a need-only basis.

Which brings me to now, It’s Amazon Prime Day (running till Sunday) and there are LOTS of very tempting beauty bargains. You can save hundreds on Dyson’s illustrious hair tool range and haute fragrances feel more accessible than ever. But it’s the makeup category that feels particularly dangerous to me. The site is brimming with juicy 50% off deals and ridiculously discounted luxe-goods. But true to my new mantra, I’m only restocking the products I desperately need and/or bring me joy (I still need to have some excitement okay). I’ve edited down my cart to just 8 makeup products. Scroll on below to find out why they’ve made the list.

Best Makeup Deals On Amazon Prime Day

01

Honest Beauty Tinted Lip Balm

from $ 20.75 (on sale $15.73) at Amazon

I truly believe this quiet-achieving tinted balm ran so Tarte’s mega viral Maracuja Juicy Lip could walk. They both boast a covetable wet-shine finish while feeling super comfortable (and non-sticky) on the lips. Honest Beauty’s balm is my ideal ratio of vibrant colour pay off and delicate sheerness giving really effortless results. It’s been a staple in my handbag for years, so I’m justifying a re-buy.

Key features:

 • Available in 6 shades
 • Softening ingredients like Acai Extract and Avocado Oil
 • Buildable colour
 • Vegan + Cruelty free

02

Estee Lauder SPF 10 Double Wear Stay Foundation

from $74 (on sale $52.56) at Amazon

This is everything I look for in a foundation: it’s blurring, breathable, buildable and has serious staying power (rain, hail or sweat – it doesn’t budge). Big tick! It smooths over mild pigmentation and texture with ease and gives the skin a glowy (not too dewy), soft-focused finish. I’d liken it to an Insta filter, your skin but better!

Key features:

 • Contains SPF 10
 • Longwearing
 • Medium to Full coverage
 • Oil and fragrance free
 • Diverse shade range

03

Maybelline New York Sky High Mascara

from $25.99 (on sale $11) at Amazon

There’s a reason demand for this mascara is so sky-high (sorry, couldn’t help myself). It’s the best drugstore mascara I’ve used and seriously rivals it’s luxe counterparts (think: Dior’s iconic Overcurl, and Too Faced’s Better Than Sex) The bristle applicator makes for close-to-lashline lift (and separates lashes nicely), while the formula itself contains volumizing fibres for doll-like length and fullness without clumping. This is one worth stockpiling!

Key features:

 • Waterproof formula
 • Dosed with nourishing bamboo extract
 • Ophthalmologist tested and suitable for sensitive eyes

04

Max Factor Miracle Pure Infused Cream Blush

from $28.95 (on sale $17.36) at Amazon

Adds instant warmth and radiance! I love the texture of this formula, it’s like a silky serum but gloopier, and find it applies best with finger tips (aka commute-friendly). It’s dosed with skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid and squalene, which gives the skin a luminous and healthy sheen. It’s fairly sheer but can be built up for a more intense flush of colour. I like to follow a blush-draping placement with tapping the product from my high cheekbones into the lower temple area.

Key features:

 • Available In 4 luminous shades
 • Contains Hyaluronic Acid and Squalene.
 • lightweight, sheer glow.

05

L’Oreal Paris Cosmetics True Match Lumi Bronze It Bronzer

from $24.9 (on sale $17.17) at Amazon

Nothing says ‘vacation’ or ‘I wish I was on vacation’ like a shimmering bronzer. This buttery soft powder formula reads a little more like a bronzer/highlighter hybrid then a traditional contour shade (so be careful with placement) and gives the complexion glowing dimension and warmth. I apply sweepingly on the outer edges of the face and trace across my décolletage and shoulders for a JLo-esque bronzed finish.

Key features:

 • Formulated in three shades
 • Great for face and body
 • Delivers a serious lit-from-within glow

06

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner

from $34 (on sale $21.08) at Amazon

An oldie but a goodie. This liner glides across the eyelid with ease (no pulling or snaggled bumps), leaving behind a deeply dark, laquered wing. It’s easy to use and once dried, will not budge. It’s seen me through fabulously long nights on the dance-floor and equally fabulous Taylor Swift-induced cries, and has not smudged or faltered. Seriously impressive.

Key features:

 • Waterproof formula
 • Easy to use
 • Longlasting
 • Dark depth of colour

07

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick

from $11.33 (on sale $6.52) at Amazon

This is one of my all-time favourite lip formulas. The colour payoff is pigmented, true to tone and tends to last for hours. I consistently reach for the shade Rum Raison, it’s the perfect brick-toned 90’s nude and is universally flattering (a marie claire office favourite!).

Key features:

 • LiquiSilk formula seals in color and softness
 • Available in four finishes: crème, matte, pearl, and sheer
 • Formulated for superior comfort

08

NYX Professional Plump Right Back Setting Spray

from $18.99 (on sale $9.47) at Amazon

I’m relatively easy-going when it comes to setting spray – if it works, it works! I gravitate towards a glowy complexion, so I appreciate that this formula is brimming with electrolytes (hello hydration) and have found it works well in extending my makeup just that little bit longer. Bonus points for an evenly dispersed application spout and weightless mist texture.

Key features:

 • Suitable for all skin types
 • Helps makeup stay put for up to 24 hours
 • Enriched with 5 electrolytes plus vitamins to hydrate skin

In case you missed it (and you definitely didn’t), Glossier has officially launched at Mecca.

To celebrate, we sat down with the visionary founder Emily Weiss while she was in Sydney to quiz her on the Glossier products she actually uses.

Naming Balm Dotcom in the scent ‘Birthday’ as one of her favourites (same), Weiss went on to share the story behind the iconic lip balm.

Why Glossier’s Balm Dotcom Is A Cult Favourite

“‘Birthday’ wasn’t actually the first extension,” she told us. “Like it wasn’t the first scented version we made — coconut was. I remember, I was sitting at my desk, in our first office, and my assistant at the time… she was like, ‘We can make a birthday version of Balm Dotcom to send to customers on their birthday.’ That was the original idea.”

“So we partnered with Momofuku Milk Bar, which is a [bakery] in New York. We worked with the chef there, Christina Tosi, to develop the flavour for birthday cake. And yeah, it’s still one of my favourite flavours

Given Birthday Balm Dotcomb smells so much like a freshly baked birthday cake, it may not be surprising that an actual pastry chef worked on the iconic formula alongside Weiss. After all, the founder herself admitted that she is constantly catching her two-year-old daughter, Clara, trying to eat her Birthday Balm. “I have to scrape it off my two-year-old’s tongue! She just eats it.”

The Story Behind Glossier’s Scent Glossier You

Weiss’s second favourite Glossier product is Glossier You, the brand’s only fragrance, which is designed to smell like the wearer (hence the name). “I think it’s interesting because [my two favourite products] are our least expensive product and our most expensive product. Those are actually the two best selling products of our brand too.”

Glossier You Eau de Parfum, $129, from Mecca, uses pink pepper on the top, with heart notes of ambrette seeds and deeper shades of musky ambrox. It’s those two molecules—ambrette and ambrox—that get to work to create a blank canvas, by reacting differently to the pH level of each person’s skin. That’s what makes the fragrance smell differently on everyone—soft, warm, familiar, like you—and why one of the perfumes is sold every 20 seconds around the world.

As for the one product that Weiss would avoid? “I would never say never. I mean, when we launched, I don’t think we dreamed of one day making deodorant. But then we said, ‘Why hasn’t someone nailed, like, the best natural deodorant?’ So we worked on it for years. Our deodorant is amazing, it’s so good.”

Celebrating 10 Years Of Glossier

Glossier launches into Australia as the brand prepares to celebrate its 10th birthday — it was founded in 2014, off the back of Weiss’s incredibly popular beauty blog-turned-website, Into The Gloss. In that time, Weiss has seen plenty of beauty brands come and go, especially ones that have tried to imitate what Glossier does so well. But when it comes to dupes, Weiss sees it as the ultimate compliment.

“When I was younger, I was much more angry. We were like, ‘How could you?!’ And I think, as we’ve grown up, it’s become like that phrase, ‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.’ It tells us we’re doing something really right, that is really resonating with people. We keep focused and continue to make sure we deliver on what we promise. One of the beautiful things about being able to work on the same product for 10 years is that we can constantly improve things. If our customers say, ‘Hey, we actually prefer this type of applicator, or this product, instead of this one,’ we can be like: ‘You’re right, good idea. Let’s improve it.’”

“I think beauty should be entirely in the hands of the customer.”

If you thought Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter era would be low-key and stripped back, you’d be sorely mistaken. Beyoncé has been in full glam during this album launch, and we would not have it any other way.

Bey has been serving us look after look, rocking a flawless complexion, cappuccino smokey eye and signature nude lip. It appears that this will be the iconic makeup that defines this new country era in her career.

Beyoncé’s worked with makeup artist Rokael Lizama for years, with Lizama helping to develop each new look for ‘Cowboy Carter’ and craft it to perfection.

The good news is that Lizama is no gatekeeper, taking to his Instagram to share the iconic makeup combos that Bey has been rocking.

So, how do you achieve her signature, pouty, juicy nude lip, we hear you ask?

Well, it’s actually the work of her makeup artist’s own eponymous brand, Rokael Beauty, that graces this music queen’s complexion.

In her recent i-Heart Radio appearance, Lizama shared that the lip combo involved a liner, lippy and lip oil.

“I had to use my new Lip Collection for this special moment “Alignment” Lip Shader and “Lucero” Lip Oil with “Refined” Velvet Creme Lipstick underneath,” he shared online.

It appears that Rokael has used an array of colours to contour the lip and bring it all together. A lighter cool pink highlights the centre of the lip, making it appear poutier. Meanwhile, a deeper warm nude brown lines and contours the lips. It appears as though he blends this into the pink, softening its brightness and making it slightly more nude.

Then he goes over with a nude-orange hued lip oil, which is sheer enough on colour but still adds a little warmth and sheen for that juicy look.

While Rokael Beauty does ship to Australia, if you’re looking for some similar shades that you can pick up more locally, we’ve got you covered below.
