There’s a quiet revolution happening in luxury fragrance. Gone are the days of bright, intimidating counters and rushed decisions. Today, discovering a perfume is about slowing down, taking a moment, and letting your senses do the talking. It’s less shopping, more experience and, surprisingly, it can feel a lot like walking into someone’s home.

In the heart of Paris, this philosophy comes to life. Solférino Paris has opened its first flagship boutique at 310 Rue Saint-Honoré, inviting visitors into a world where perfume discovery feels less like shopping and more like stepping into a private Parisian apartment. The Maison’s debut collection of ten eaux de parfum and two candles is designed to be explored at leisure, capturing he city’s energy and its quieter, intimate corners alike — from bustling boulevards to hidden gardens.

Feels Like Home – Parisian Style

Step inside and the boutique immediately feels approachable yet luxurious. Designed by architects Bismut & Bismut, it takes inspiration from the historic mansion at 10 Rue de Solférino, the Maison’s creative home. Parisian cut stone, decorative mouldings, and a chequerboard floor give the space architectural elegance, while warm lighting and plush textures make it feel like a lived-in apartment rather than a store.

At the centre, an elongated fragrance testing counter displays the debut collection like little works of art on a coffee table. Ceramic diffusers and testing strips encourage you to play, explore and find what feels right for you, unhurried. Every detail, from golden lacquer niches to the four-metre mirror creating the illusion of bottles suspended in light, feels considered, comfortable and quietly elegant.

An Invitation To Stay A While

Solférino’s boutique reflects a bigger shift in luxury fragrance, where experience is as important as scent. Perfume is personal, tied to memory, mood, and identity, and today’s fragrance spaces are designed to let that connection happen naturally.

One of the boutique’s most charming features is the Table de Paris, a sculptural map of the city where miniature Parisian landmarks sit among the Maison’s scents. It’s a playful, almost whimsical way to explore Paris through fragrance, and it’s easy to imagine spending longer than intended just wandering through the space, like you would an apartment, taking it all in.

Solferino fragrances displayed on map of paris city in store
Image: The Table de Paris—a sculptural relief map of the capital where miniature Parisian monuments rise among the bottles (Supplied) .

Beyond the main space, a softly lit, deep green velvet lounge area offers a private setting for personalised guidance from Solférino’s fragrance consultants. It’s here that the boutique’s “home” feeling comes into its own: a calm, considered space that encourages you to take your time, linger longer and connect with each fragrance at a personal pace. Turning a quick visit into a slow, sensory experience.

In a city synonymous with perfumery, Solférino Paris’ Rue Saint-Honoré flagship feels both timely and timeless. By blurring the line between home and boutique, it embodies a new vision of haute parfumerie — one where luxury fragrance is discovered slowly, intentionally, and with a sense of personal indulgence.

If a favourite perfume has ever left you wishing for greater longevity, it may be time to consider the quiet overachiever of the fragrance world: the extrait.

Often regarded as the most luxurious form, an extrait contains a significantly higher concentration of perfume oils than a standard eau de parfum, resulting in a scent that is richer, more enduring and noticeably more nuanced on the skin.

Although many fragrances are chosen for their olfactory profile, whether warm, fresh, floral or gourmand, concentration is an equally important factor. Perfume houses classify formulations by the percentage of oil within the blend.

A higher concentration directly enhances intensity, projection and wear time, which is why an extrait is the most compelling option for those who prefer a fragrance that lingers long after they have left the room.

How Do Extraits Differ From Other Perfumes?

The distinction lies in strength. Eau de toilettes are the lightest, often containing around 10 percent perfume oil, occasionally less.

Eau de parfums offer greater impact, typically reaching concentrations of up to 20 percent. An extrait stands apart from both, delivering the most potent and long-lasting interpretation of a scent.

Once you understand what an extrait can do, it becomes difficult to settle for anything less.

Take Note Of Atmah Caron Perfume https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/body/atmah-caron-perfume/ Wed, 10 Dec 2025 05:32:08 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1500174 A fresh take on vanilla

The post Take Note Of Atmah Caron Perfume appeared first on marie claire.

Take Note is your guide to the latest fragrance launches. We unpack the scent, who it’s made for and why it’s worth adding to the collection already on your beauty shelf.

If you think you know vanilla, Caron’s new fragrance Atmah is here to gently (and chicly) prove you wrong. Forget cupcakes and cozy candles; this is vanilla that has gone off-grid.

Artistic Director Olivia de Rothschild looked to the sweeping steppes of Kyrgyzstan for inspiration, imagining a scent that feels like clean air and open horizons. Atmah is vanilla, yes, but lighter, freer, and surprisingly modern. Think silk scarf in the wind rather than sugar in your latte.

The Scent

Atmah’s magic comes from its reimagining of vanilla as something crystalline rather than creamy. Perfumer Louise Turner built the fragrance around a mineral, airy vanilla, supported by Ambrofix for warm radiance and grounded with salty vetiver and woody akigalawood. Pink pepper brightens everything, ambrette adds a soft hum of musk, and touches of tuberose and jasmine give a hint of texture without turning the scent floral. The result is a vanilla that breathes: clean, luminous, and quietly expansive.

The Mood

If you prefer clear skies to crowded rooms, or at least like to smell as if you do, Atmah is your match. It is serene without being shy, perfect for people who move with grounded elegance. Think early-morning walks, soft tailoring, unbothered energy. It works in every season, airy enough for summer and warm enough for winter.

The Shelf

In a curated fragrance wardrobe, Atmah fills the elevated everyday slot. It is the scent you reach for when you want something polished but not performative. It layers beautifully with woods and musks, and even with light florals if you want a bit more softness.

But honestly, it does not need help. It is worth buying because it is the rare vanilla that feels truly new: refined, modern, and quietly unforgettable. Consider it the scent equivalent of finding inner peace, but make it chic.

Whether it’s our flat white of a morning or that glass of red we reach for at the end of a long day, little habits can leave teeth looking dull and stained, even with a dedicated brushing routine. Thankfully, at-home teeth whitening kits have come a long way and are more advanced than ever.

They combine professional-grade formulas with LED light technology to deliver results that rival the dentist’s chair, without the eye-watering price tag.

The Best Teeth Whitening Kits, According To marie claire:

Take Note Of Ferragamo’s Fiamma: The Fragrance Version Of A Slow Burn https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/body/ferragamo-fiamma-perfume/ Fri, 31 Oct 2025 05:29:51 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1496080 Confidence, bottled

The post Take Note Of Ferragamo’s Fiamma: The Fragrance Version Of A Slow Burn appeared first on marie claire.

]]>

Ferragamo’s new fragrance, Fiamma, isn’t here to shout. It’s the kind of scent that smoulders quietly and lingers long after you’ve left the room. Dreamed up under the creative direction of Maximilian Davis, it captures everything the new Ferragamo era stands for: modern, minimal and undeniably confident.

“Fiamma” translates to flame in Italian, and that’s exactly what this perfume feels like — a slow, steady warmth rather than a flash in the pan. The bottle itself is pure Italian glamour, all sculptural gold curves and a touch of the brand’s signature red. It’s the kind of piece that demands to be displayed, not tucked away.

The Notes

Perfumer Clément Gavarry has built something clever here. The scent opens with crisp white pear and a flicker of spice before melting into creamy gardenia. The base is a blend of amber and soft woods, adding depth without heaviness. It’s polished but not precious — like silk trousers and a good blow-dry in scent form.

The Mood

This is a fragrance for the woman who doesn’t need to announce herself. It suits the cooler months when you want warmth close to the skin, but it’s versatile enough to wear year-round. Think gallery openings, late dinners, or anywhere you want to feel quietly composed.

The Shelf

Fiamma is one of those scents that slots seamlessly into a curated collection. It layers beautifully with anything creamy or musky and feels timeless without tipping into tradition. Plus, the formula is over 80% biodegradable and the 100ml bottle refillable, so it’s as considered as it is chic.

Available at David Jones and Myer from $107.

Take Note is your guide to the latest fragrance launches. We unpack the scent, who it’s made for and why it’s worth adding to the collection already on your beauty shelf.

For its 10th birthday, Atelier Des Ors is giving vanilla a refresh. Created by perfumer Marie Salamagne, it’s the kind of fragrance that feels like it was made for someone who likes their scent soft but never boring.

The Scent

The star here is vanilla, but not just any vanilla. Nōvae Vanilla blends three rare types; NaturePrint Blue, Bourbon, and Madagascar with mimosa, amber woods, and a touch of musk mixed in. The result? Vanilla that’s luminous, textured, and wearable all day, without ever feeling heavy or sugary.

The Mood

This isn’t your cosy, cupcake vanilla. Nōvae Vanilla feels confident, subtle, and quietly expensive — the kind of scent that pairs with tailoring and minimal makeup. It’s versatile enough for work or after-dark wear, suiting anyone who likes their fragrance soft but self-assured. Think: skin scent with presence.

The Shelf

For the beauty connoisseur, Nōvae Vanilla is that elevated “neutral” fragrance, the one that grounds your collection. It layers beautifully with smoky ouds, leathery ambers, or bright white florals if you want more lift. But honestly, it’s strong enough to stand alone.

Its balance of warm vanilla and mineral freshness makes it a year-round staple: comforting in winter, clean and radiant in summer. And at a time when so many vanilla scents lean gourmand, this one’s worth the space — refined, wearable, and just unexpected enough to feel special.

Australian cricket captain and and Gillette Ambassador, Pat Cummins, sits down with marie claire to talk about his heartwarming love story with his wife Rebecca Cummins, his new outlook on simplifying life, and close shaves.

On Children And Childhood

Marie Claire: What is the soundtrack to your life right now?

Pat Cummins: “A mix of Nursery Rhymes and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! (Our 3 year old son is obsessed).

MC: Phrase you over use the most?

PC: “Yeah, for sure, 100%”

MC: Who was your childhood hero?

PC:I would say my older brothers, I used to copy them all the time.

Australian Cricketer and Gillette Ambassador, Pat Cummins and his wife Rebecca Cummins have been together since they were teenagers

On Simple Pleasures

PC: “On holidays, sitting by a pool reading a book with a beer in hand.

MC: What simple pleasure brings you the most happiness?

PC: A swim in the ocean followed by a coffee in peace.

MC: Quality you value most in people?

PC: Positivity.

MC: Most spontaneous decision?

PC:Invested in a brewery.

We have to learn that it’s okay to have space and downtime.

On Wellness

MC: Where and when are you most happy?

PC:Surrounded by friends and family in the country side.”

MC: What has been the most challenging thing to unlearn in life?

PC:Busyness doesn’t always equal productivity. I think we are all wired (or maybe just me!) to think we should be busy for busyness sake – I think we have to learn that it’s okay to have space and downtime.

MC: What’s a topic you wish people would talk more about?

PC: “Generally having a long-term view of anything. Whether in business or personal goals – too often we focus on short term wins rather than making decisions that will have a positive impact on the future.

MC: What’s a topic you wish people would talk less about?

MC: What podcast are you current listening to?

PC:Acquired by Ben Gilbert and David Rosenthal. I’m loving any Founder focused podcasts at the moment.

On Love

MC: Who is the woman in your life that has shaped you the most?

PC: My wife Becky, we have been together since I as 19 and we’ve grown and changed together so much over that time.

MC: Best thing someone you love has ever done for you?

PC: “Definitely my Mum and Dad who have given up so much of their lives to give me such a great childhood and huge opportunities. And of course, my wife Becky who is a constant in my life, looking after our two kids and continuously supporting me so I can travel the world playing Cricket.

MC: Best thing you’ve ever done for someone you love?

PC: Allowed my now wife to get a Dog and let it sleep in our bed (though I do now love him…).”

“Becky and I have been together since I was 19 and we’ve grown and changed together so much over that time

Pat Cummins is Australian Cricketer and Gilette Ambassador.

MC: What’s your ideal day?

PC: It always starts with a morning shave with my Gillette Labs – Gillette has been part of my daily routine since my Dad taught me to shave when I was a teen. When someone asks a beauty writer about their favourite bathroom essentials, it’s unlikely they’re expecting ‘electric shaver‘ to be the answer. And yet, here we are, making a case for electric shavers.

Of course, body hair is an extremely personal thing, and each person chooses to grow, shave or wax their hair in slightly different ways.

It’s rechargeable, portable and designed with women in mind, so it’s the kind of bathroom essential you’ll keep reaching for.

Are Electric Shavers Better For Women Than Razors?

Electric shavers are designed to be more gentle on the skin, especially for sensitive areas like the bikini line. Unlike traditional blades, they glide over the skin to reduce the risk of nicks and cuts.

Can I Use An Electric Razor On Wet And Dry Skin?

Yes, most modern electric shavers are built for both wet and dry use. You can shave in the shower with your favourite body wash or shaving foam, or on dry skin for a touch up if you prefer.

Do Electric Shavers Give As Close A Shave As A Razor?

Unfortunately not — but both have their pros and cons. A razor does win points for delivering a closer result, while electric shavers are praised for convenience and comfort.

Elie Saab’s Le Parfum Absolu Pays Homage To A Timeless Classic https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/body/elie-saab-le-parfum-absolu/ Mon, 15 Sep 2025 00:03:26 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1290947 Striking a delicate balance between sophistication and modernity

The post Elie Saab’s Le Parfum Absolu Pays Homage To A Timeless Classic appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
There is something truly special about a beautiful fragrance; especially one that has the ability to captivate, transport, and evoke.

Fragrance is a powerful trigger of memory, linking sentimental moments with key scents. Perhaps, sweet cherry reminds you of that favourite lip gloss you owned when you were a child, or maybe the subtle smell of roses evokes fond memories of that first bunch of flowers you received from someone special?

This olfactory link is a part of who we are, so naturally, the fragrances you choose to wear every day become synonymous with your personality and style. Elie Saab understands this intimate connection, and with the new release, Le Parfum Absolu, the brand has captured the essence of femininity and paired it with an elevated intensity. This potent pairing empowers those who wear it with confidence, setting the tone for the day (or night) ahead.

A Legacy In Motion

Widely known for refined craftsmanship and an enduring vision of femininity, Elie Saab reflects a timeless sense of style in all of his creations, and Le Parfum Absolu is no different.

Image: Supplied

Building upon the foundations of 2011’s iconic Le Parfum, this new interpretation was formulated for the sophisticated, cosmopolitan, modern, and creative woman.

The duo of perfumers who brought Saab’s vision to life, Aurélien Guichard and Leonardo Lucheze, were deeply inspired by the original fragrance. They have ensured this latest creation is one that delicately strikes a balance between modernity and sophistication.

The layered floral, amber, and woody notes is an ode to the warmth of amber light, which is further reflected through the emblematic bottle, featuring faceted lines that play with light and make the fragrance shimmer.

An Elevated Scent Profile

Described as ‘the first rays of sunlight’, Le Parfum Absolu was formulated with top notes of mandarin, orange blossom, and Madagascan ylang-ylang, radiating a vibrant freshness.

At the heart of this fragrance is an array of white blooms such as jasmine sambac, tuberose, and gardenia, enriched with the earthy notes of olive flower. This collection of ingredients work together to bring a subtle sweetness to the fragrance, one that gently lingers on the skin all day long.

Image: Supplied

The intensity of the base notes features ingredients such as benzoin, amber, and vanilla, to cut through the florals, giving the fragrance an added layer of depth. This is deepened further through the inclusion of olive wood and musk.

Experience It For Yourself

Whether you are purchasing Elie Saab as a gift, or indulging in it yourself as a moment of self-love, Le Parfum Absolu is so much more than just a scent; it is a refined expression of style, confidence, and individuality.

The carefully balanced layers make it a versatile choice for both day and night, adapting effortlessly to any moment.

From the very first spritz to the final lingering notes, this elegantly composed formulation will become your new favourite signature scent.

Welcome Le Parfum Absolu into your fragrance collection now, available in two sizes, 50ml ($192) and 90ml ($271), at selected Myer stores and Myer online.

Whether you earned them through pregnancy or had a growth spurt in your teens, stretch marks are a normal part of life and completely normal.

While some women may have chosen to embrace theirs, others would prefer to reduce their appearance: there’s nothing wrong with either choice.

For those looking to prevent marks from forming during pregnancy or minimising the ones you already have, it’s important to note that whether you will develop (or why you have) stretch marks largely comes down to your genetics, and you can’t really “get rid” of them completely.

“There is no one way to permanently and completely get rid of stretch marks, but we have a variety of different treatments that may make them look better,” Dr. Morgan Rabach, MD, board-certified dermatologist told Cosmopolitan.

And while stretch mark creams are arguably the cheapest treatment you can buy, there is also minimal evidence to support the efficacy of a lot of stretch mark creams. However, there are some that might assist if fading or preventing the onset of marks is the goal.

The Humble Bar Soap Is Having Its Moment https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/bar-soap-trend/ Fri, 05 Sep 2025 07:14:06 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1292481 It's a classic for good reason.

The post The Humble Bar Soap Is Having Its Moment appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
It’s the old Hollywood starlet of the beauty sphere, yet for decades the humble bar soap has been pushed aside. At the back of the shelf, denied for the likes of foaming face washes, creamy cleansers and ultra-decadent shower gels.

But in 2025, much like the minimal bag trends of present, beauty is stripping back.

Quiet luxury has hit our bathrooms, and the once-forgotten bar soap is having its moment. Minimal, effective and planet-friendly, they are suddenly the most covetable accessory in your bathroom cabinet.

Why Is Bar Soap Making A Comeback?

With a renewed emphasis on sustainability and ritual, beauty lovers are rethinking their daily wash ritual. For one thing, bar soaps cut down on plastic waste, they often last longer than their liquid counterparts, and come in elevated sensorial formulas that rival any high-end cleanser.

From artisanal brands to heritage houses, the latest soaps aren’t the flaky, skin-stripping blocks you may remember from your coastal grandmother’s bathroom, they’re creamy, hydrating and aesthetically pleasing for the eye.

Future Market Insights projects that, “the global bar soap market is projected to reach USD 54.08 billion by 2035. Driving this resurgence is a growing demand for eco-friendly, affordable, and skin-friendly formulations“. A trend that seems to be slowing down and prompting beauty consumers to purchase more thoughtfully.

The trend dovetails perfectly with the “clean girl” aesthetic dominating social feeds: pared back, natural and luxe in its restraint.

Picture a marble soap dish, a perfectly sculptural square bar of Byredo or Chanel, suddenly, your skins scape looks editorial. And with formulas enriched with shea butters, oils and botanicals, bar soaps are just as skin-loving as your fanciest body wash.

Why Did People Stop Using Bar Soap?

Like with all things, the humble simplicity of beauty has been out of of vogue for some time. The promise of maximalism has been a focal point for many beauty aficionado’s since the rise of TikTok and influencer beauty affiliated content.

People largely stopped using bar soap in favour of more “luxurious” alternatives, and then of course, there was the hygiene marketing pile on of yore. A myth that big name drugstore companies perpetuated to push the use of more luxurious and sophisticated liquid alternative.

What Is The Best Bar Soap?

With maximalist beauty now taking a backseat, the minimal beauty brands have treated us with a slew of wonderful options of late. From the most indulgent to the lusciously fragrant. These are a few that feel like a welcome addition to your vanity.

Why Astrum Nova Might Be Your Next Signature Scent https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/body/electimuss-astrum-nova/ Wed, 27 Aug 2025 00:50:53 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1291090 A constellation of citrus, musk and luminous woods

The post Why Astrum Nova Might Be Your Next Signature Scent appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Electimuss, the British fragrance house known for bold, indulgent compositions, unveils Astrum Nova, a luminous new chapter in its Lustrous Collection. True to its name, which translates to “new star,” the scent is an exploration of light, nature and the quiet harmony between earth and sky.

Crafted by perfumer David Chieze, Astrum Nova takes its shape around ambertonic, a luminous and powerful molecule. The opening is vibrant, a constellation of citrus where bergamot, lemon and mandarin collide with the lush sweetness of mango and dark berries.

Osmanthus weaves between them, bringing its dual personality, both fruity and faintly animalic, a tether between brightness and depth. The floral powder of orris lends refinement, smoothing transitions as the scent journeys toward its heart. Then comes oud, not in its familiar heavy guise, but in a softer expression, reframed through its hidden fruit-like quality. This oud is polished rather than overpowering, subtle enough to let the surrounding notes shine, yet present enough to ground the composition.

As the perfume deepens, oakmoss, musk, tonka and vanilla join together, wrapping the skin in warmth and lingering elegance. Chieze describes it as “a different facet of oud,” a reimagining that reveals richness without heaviness, indulgence without excess. The effect is radiant and contemporary, a fragrance that glows rather than smoulders.

Electimuss co-founder Luke Granger positions the scent within the ancient practice of astro-gardening, a tradition in which crops were planted in alignment with the stars. In Astrum Nova, this history is distilled into something modern and wearable: a perfume that bridges the heavens and the soil, a reminder of nature’s eternal dialogue with the cosmos.

The result is a fragrance that tells a story of light. It is joyful, elegant and quietly mysterious, a companion for those who seek intensity touched with grace. Like the stars themselves, Astrum Nova shines not only in brilliance but also in permanence.

Amouage Closes Its Odyssey Collection With Two Bold New Scents https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/body/amouage-odyssey-collection/ Mon, 04 Aug 2025 06:39:38 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1288672 The latest chapter of the House of Amouage’s
fragrance journey was forged far up a
mountainside – high perfumery at its finest.

The post Amouage Closes Its Odyssey Collection With Two Bold New Scents appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Starting out as a gift from the Sultanate of Oman to show what the country can offer, Amouage has a distinctly royal heritage. Sourced from the country’s rich resources – think rose from the region’s mountains and frankincense from the country’s UNESCO protected plantations, coupled with ancient fragrance-making origins – Amouage was devised in 1983 as a luxurious yet discrete showcase of Oman for its distinguished guests.

Amouage
Image: Supplied

But the secret got out. “In 1985, The New York Times wrote about the Amouage fragrance, and the title of the article was ‘The most expensive perfume in the world that you cannot buy’,” Renaud Salmon, Amouage’s chief creative officer, says on a recent visit to Australia. Demand skyrocketed and the House of Amouage was born.

Since then, Amouage has been through a transformation. It’s now available in more than 80 countries and boasts 12 boutiques.

Fusing tradition and its royal roots with the best of ingredients and creativity, Amouage’s secret to wooing new devotees to its fold, says Salmon, is its modernity and ability to whisper decadence rather than scream it.

“Amouage fragrances are refined, nuanced and tasteful,” he says. “They are not overwhelming or in your face.” It’s a sentiment that reflects the nation, explains Salmon. “Oman values what they call ‘open privacy’,” he says. “It’s an awareness of how lucky they are [while still being] quite private. People in Oman love this notion that if you want to be happy, you need to live a quiet life.”

Image: Supplied
Image: Supplied

Doing things with patience and consideration is at the heart of Amouage, from sourcing the precious and sustainable ingredients to finessing of the finished fragrance – which Amouage is in no hurry to release from its Muscat-based headquarters. “After we compound each concentrate, we age it,” explains Salmon. Spray an Amouage fragrance and you will instinctively understand.

Each feels balanced and smooth – the result, Salmon says, of giving the ingredients time to come together. “Maturation is responsible for the harmony of fragrances,” says Salmon. Likewise, ageing the ethanol for six months in wooden barrels helps create the distinctive depth of an Amouage fragrance.

“It gives this subtle woodiness,” says Salmon. The latest fragrances to launch from the house represent a closure of Amouage’s stunning 12-strong, four-chapter Odyssey Collection.

Image: Supplied

The final Chapter IV, the Eternity Collection, sees the release of two new fragrances, Decision and Existence. “I wanted to talk about the end of life in a very positive way,” explains Salmon. Inspired by an intrepid hike Salmon took on Jabel Shams, the highest mountain in Oman, the fragrances came to him as he neared the desolate peak with a mix of emotions that ranged from disorientation to serenity.

“At the beginning, you’re surrounded by nature and then it progressively disappears,” says Salmon of that day in the mountains. “One of the last manifestations of life on those mountains are the juniper trees.”

Decision, a woody and spiced scent created by renowned perfumer Quentin Bisch, takes those juniper berry notes and blends them with bergamot, frankincense, myrrh, Atlas cedarwood and vanilla for a scent that feels as decisive as its name.

Existence, meanwhile, feels more ethereal. Inspired by the clouds above those soaring mountains, Bisch has created a clean and bright blend of lily of the valley with frankincense, a powdery aldehyde, rose and benzoin.

Image: Supplied

Quietly luxurious, modern and considered, the new fragrances feel incredibly wearable. “People deserve to live every single day with an exceptional fragrance,” says Salmon. “Life is short; we shouldn’t limit ourselves to nights at the opera.”

Amouage Decision and Existence EDP, 100ml, $599 each; at libertineparfumerie.com.au.

Fragrance has always held a mysterious power – that silent yet unforgettable signature that lingers long after you’ve left a room. As Elizabeth Taylor famously said, “The beauty of fragrance is that it speaks to your heart… and hopefully someone else’s.” A scent can instantly transport you, evoking memories, emotions, and moments otherwise lost to time. For those who appreciate perfume as a delicate art form, crafted with precision and passion, discovering truly niche, rare fragrances is akin to finding hidden treasure.

Australia’s newest gateway to this world of sensory luxury is Niche International Group, a specialist distributor dedicated to delivering the most exquisite and culturally rich niche fragrances and beauty brands to the Australian market. Electimuss London Caspian Cherry Parfum
Image: Supplied

One of the crown jewels in Electimuss’s Explorer Collection is Caspian Cherry Parfum Extrait 100ml, a masterpiece conceived by master perfumer Kevin Mathys. Priced at AUD $398, Caspian Cherry is an indulgent gourmand fantasy, a decadent cherry confection that evokes the opulence of Bacchanalian festivities – lavish Roman parties where cherries, wine, and sensual pleasures flowed freely.

The scent opens on a luscious blend of velvety amaretto liqueur and juicy black cherries, immediately drawing you into its sumptuous world. This playful sweetness is tempered by bittersweet dark chocolate, lending depth and intrigue. As the fragrance evolves, it reveals a heart woven with delicately spiced honey, plush coconut, and a shot of rich coffee – an intoxicating, multisensory dance of gourmand and spice. Vetiver’s gentle warmth grounds the perfume, while powdery tonka bean extends the cherry’s luscious impression throughout. The drydown is a satin-smooth embrace of creamy sandalwood and silky white chocolate, creating a lingering aura of indulgent luxury.

This complex layering makes Caspian Cherry more than just a scent – it’s an experience. It celebrates both history and hedonism, taking the wearer on a journey to a place where decadence meets artistry. Each spray promises not just fragrance but a memory in the making.

Niche International Group’s collaboration with Electimuss London reflects their commitment to brands that push the boundaries of creativity and quality. Beyond Electimuss, their portfolio offers discovery sets, luxury boxes designed to hold multiple 100ml fragrances, travel atomizers for on-the-go elegance, and hair mists in best-selling scents, enhancing the sensory experience across multiple touchpoints.

Inspired by the opulent optimism of the 1970s and ’80s and driven by creative freedom, French fragrance house Ex Nihlio is now available on our shores. And we’re excited. Why? Because the perfume brand is a favourite of Hailey Bieber.

The A-lister says that not one but two of Ex Nihlio’s fragrances are on high rotation in her scent wardrobe.

We unpack why Ex Nihlio perfume (which means “from nothing”) is hitting all the right notes and whether the French brand lives up to the hype.

What Perfume Does Hailey Bieber Wear?

Hailey Bieber

When it comes to beauty, there’s very few people who command the internet’s attention quite like Hailey Bieber. Now, thanks to a recently resurfaced interview, we know exactly what Bieber looks for in her favourite fragrance.

“There’s a few scents that I like to play around with, but the one that I’m always going back to is the Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique, that’s the scent that I’ve actually been wearing for a few years,” she revealed.

By collaborating with some of the world’s best perfumers and blending both luxurious natural ingredients with next-generation biotech synthetics, Ex Nihilo perfume has rocketed to cult status with fragrances such as its white floral Fleur Narcotique.

Created by English perfumer Louise Turner, the addictive peony, orange blossom, jasmine and lychee-noted fragrance is a favourite of A-lister Hailey Bieber.

“Hailey is a client of ours,” says Verdier. “We don’t pay her, she just loves our brand.”

The endorsement has helped make Fleur Narcotique a wild success for the brand. Inspired by Paris and its contrasts, Bieber’s self-confessed signature fragrance is a sophisticated and unique scent that could well become the one you (and your partner, because all Ex Nihilo fragrances are unisex) reach for time and again. We’re betting Bieber’s husband, Justin, takes a spritz every now and then too.

“We create gender-fluid scents,” says Verdier. “We also create fragrances without a character in mind. Fleur Narcotique is still one of our favourites of all time.”

Also on high rotation for Bieber is Lust in Paradise. It’s another creation by Turner.

“Louise is English but she has lived in Paris for 25 years, so she is really French,” notes Verdier. In turn, Turner’s floral, woody, musk-noted fragrance is inspired by the serenity of the French Riviera. “This is one of my favourites,” says Verdier of the scent, launched in 2019. “It’s perfect for summer. It’s beachy with sparkling notes. It’s floral and fresh and musky.”

What Is Ex Nihlio?

The fragrance house was founded in 2013 by three friends Sylvie Loday, Olivier Royère and Benoît Verdier with serious know-how in perfume creation.

With a Parisian store on the city’s luxurious Rue Saint-Honoré and no expense spared on ingredients Ex Nihlio quickly cemented itself as a coveted luxury label.

marie claire Australia spoke to co-founder Verdier when he visited Australia for the launch and he pointed out that what makes Ex Nihlio’s fragrances special is that they are also given the luxury of time.

New addition, Spiky Muse, has notes of rose, pistachio and strawberry, while white floral Ex Nihlio Fleur Narcotique is one of Hailey Bieber’s signature scents.

“It’s about pushing boundaries while staying true to our vision of radical luxury”

– Ex Nihilo co-founder Benoît Verdier

Each scent goes through a meticulous process of creation. Carefully orchestrated, founders Loday, Royère and Verdier select perfumers who will best bring a particular project to life.

And it’s this philosophy, which is based on creative collaborations with master perfumers and deeply luxurious ingredients, that helps make each fragrance not only unique but also distinctly modern.

“We give the brief and then the perfumers are given what we call in French carte blanche,” says Verdier. “The perfumers are motivated in terms of the innovative materials.”

With stores across the globe, including in London, Spain, Germany, USA, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, Ex Nihilo has amassed a loyal following. And it’s about to win more hearts here, too, as it opens exclusively in David Jones’ Sydney stores at Bondi Junction and Elizabeth Street.

“Ex Nihilo has always been about pushing boundaries while staying true to our vision of radical luxury,” says Verdier. “Bringing our fragrances to Australia is a milestone that reflects our passion for innovation and the art of personal expression.”

The Ex Nihlio Perfumes You Need To Know

Ex Nihlio Blue Talisman was launched to celebrate the brand’s tenth anniversary.

Ex Nihilo now has 40 fragrances and seven collections in its stable, from the haute Initiale line, which houses Fleur Narcotique, to Babylone, a collection of moreish amber fragrances. There is also Visionnaire, which houses Blue Talisman, a fresh fragrance of pear and musk by perfumer Jordi Fernandez and which launched to celebrate a 10-year anniversary for the brand.

“Blue Talisman is our celebration fragrance,” says Verdier. “We decided to create a blue bottle because the house is blue, and really it’s very simple, but also very complex, fresh and skin-like.”

New to the brand is Spiky Muse. Part of the Interdite collection and another hit by Louise Turner, Spiky Muse is both feminine and powerful. With notes of rose, pistachio and strawberry extracted through a clever upcycling process, it’s gourmet but not as you know it.

“Our discussion with Louise was about what we could bring to this fragrance without making it too sticky, or overlapping sugary,” says Verdier. “It’s still a good, warm and yellow strawberry, but the strawberry on top is bit exotic, a bit green. So it’s quite complex.”

Our Verdict

Simple but complex, forward-looking yet with a respect for the past. Modern and nostalgic. Ex Nihlio makes scents that elevate the everyday and we can definitely see the brand making its way into our daily dress code.

Ex Nihlio is available now at David Jones.

For more than 260 years, the name Creed has been synonymous with luxury, heritage, and artistry. Founded in 1760 and steeped in history from the era of King George III, this iconic Anglo-French fragrance house continues to enchant perfume lovers worldwide. Known for crafting exquisite scents almost entirely by hand in the French town of Fontainebleau, Creed seamlessly blends tradition with modernity – elevating everyday moments into olfactory experiences that feel both timeless and contemporary.

Now, Creed introduces Eladaria, a captivating new floral fragrance that joins two beloved collection favourites, Carmina and Queen of Silk, further enriching their exquisite portfolio of luxurious perfumes.

A Legacy Of Scented Royalty

Creed’s story is as rich as its fragrances. Since its inception, the house has been a purveyor of choice scents for monarchs, aristocrats, and discerning clients who appreciate the delicate balance of craftsmanship and innovation. Every bottle that emerges from Creed’s ateliers carries the weight of centuries-old expertise, yet is designed to feel utterly modern and wearable in today’s fast-paced world.

What sets Creed apart is its dedication to handcrafting fragrances using only the finest ingredients sourced globally. From rare florals to precious resins and musks, each composition reflects a masterful attention to detail – a tradition that continues to this day, ensuring every spritz is a luxurious ritual.

The Sensuous Florals – Carmina and Queen of Silk

Before Eladaria’s debut, two standout florals have defined Creed’s elegant approach to scent.

Carmina, described as a decadent floral amber, boasts a luscious bouquet that melds black cherry, rose de Mai, and peony with grounding notes of frankincense, myrrh, and musk. It’s a scent that exudes both modernity and mystery, perfect for evening occasions yet sophisticated enough to wear daily for those who prefer an alluring, distinctive signature.

In contrast, Queen of Silk embodies opulence through its rich blend of magnolia, tuberose, musk, agarwood, and Madagascan vanilla. This fragrance is a celebration of femininity that commands attention without overwhelming, marrying creamy floral softness with an undercurrent of warm sensuality.

Enter Eladaria – A Floral Symphony for the Modern Era

Joining this elegant lineage is Eladaria, a fresh yet timeless addition that embodies the perfect balance between heritage and innovation. At its heart lie three distinct roses, each bringing a different dimension — from fresh and green to deep and velvety — enhanced by delicate lily of the valley that adds a crisp, dewy brightness.

Eladaria opens with vibrant top notes of mandarin and pink peppercorn, introducing a sparkling zest and gentle warmth. These effervescent touches are softened by chic, powdery mid-notes that lend an air of understated glamour. The base grounds the scent with sensual vanilla, musk, and ambroxide, delivering a creamy, long-lasting finish that wraps the wearer in subtle sophistication.

This layering of notes means Eladaria is versatile enough for everyday elegance but refined enough for special moments – a fragrance that transitions effortlessly from morning meetings to evening soirees.

Craftsmanship Meets Contemporary Style

What makes Eladaria truly remarkable is Creed’s ability to blend the old with the new. The fragrance embodies centuries of perfumery tradition but is crafted for today’s woman, who values both heritage and innovation. As Creed’s experts say, it “balances the past and present with ease,” making Eladaria not just a scent, but a statement of timeless femininity.

Each 75ml bottle, priced at $489, is a testament to Creed’s commitment to quality and artistry – a luxury investment in personal style that transcends fleeting trends.

The Creed Experience

Whether choosing the rich complexity of Carmina, the sumptuous allure of Queen of Silk, or the fresh yet layered elegance of Eladaria, one thing is clear: Creed continues to be a beacon of refinement in the world of luxury fragrance. Their scents don’t just perfume the skin; they tell a story – of heritage, craftsmanship, and the art of modern beauty.

With Eladaria, Creed invites us to rediscover floral elegance through a contemporary lens, promising a new kind of scented luxury that honours the past while confidently stepping into the future.

]]>
A fragrance brand with Australian natives and botanicals at its heart has created a new scent inspired by the country’s East Coast. Australia’s vast array of flora was, until nine years ago, largely untapped when it came to luxury items. And despite the fact that we are considered a nation of botanical “megadiversity”, we certainly didn’t have a fragrance brand that utilised the incredible numbers of natives in this country. So when Goldfield & Banks entered the market, it changed how we view our own backyard.

A luxury brand that celebrates the beauty and diversity of the Australian landscape was the central idea for Dimitri Weber, an Australian-based French-born fragrance expert, when he launched Goldfield & Banks in 2016. “I thought, ‘Let me continue [English botanist] Sir Joseph Banks’ legacy and share the beauty of this country,’” explains Weber, who relocated to Australia about a decade ago to be with his partner. “We have such extraordinary beauty in Australia and incredible botanicals. I love working with perfumers who work with all the prestigious brands and bringing them oils and essences from Australia that they have never heard of.”

Singlehandedly, Weber has created a fragrance label that encourages fresh thinking. By collecting ingredients harvested by passionate growers from across the country, he has become something of a pioneer of new scents. It all started with Pacific Rock Moss. The aromatic and aquatic fragrance, with distinctive marine notes, smells exactly like walking along an Australian beach during summer, thanks to the addition of new scent ingredient: Australian Coastal Moss. “I launched the Pacific Rock Moss fragrance nearly nine years ago,” explains Weber, who worked on the project with perfumers Francois Merle-Baudoin and Carine Certain Boin. “It was the first aquatic perfume in the niche category, which, back then, was all about amber oriental perfumes that were very dark and woody. I thought, ‘If I launch an Australian perfume, I want to come up with a fragrance that has no pesticides and is very creamy.’ That’s what you expect from Australian ingredients and produce.”

Goldfield & Banks' Dimitri Weber

A classic case of fresh eyes and a desire for something unique, Weber has been focused on pushing past old boundaries. Australian agarwood, or oud, is one ingredient that he is particularly passionate about. “I flew back to a Paris trade show with some agarwood from Cairns,” he recalls. “People were saying ‘What’s this new thing – this new scent?’ The scent of Australian agarwood was completely new.”

During the wet season, marie claire visited a top-secret plantation of agarwood, which currently supplies almost all of its agarwood to Goldfield & Banks. Oud is able to fetch up to $10,000 a kilogram (hence the secrecy), and this property’s highly prized essence forms the basis of the cult-followed Botanical Series, a line that showcases international ingredients lovingly grown in our pure climate and rich, fertile soils. At the heart of the series is much-loved Silky Woods, a delicate yet warm and sensual fragrance of saffron, incense, ylang ylang and the prized Tropical Queensland-grown agarwood.

Meanwhile, Goldfield & Banks’ Native Collection has now grown to more than 10 fragrances. Each use native essences that send you on olfactory journeys to just about every landscape Australia has to offer: from the desert to lush rainforests and fresh coastlines. “It’s called the Native Collection because we highlight ingredients that are native to this country,” explains Weber. “Most of them have never been used in modern perfumery before.” Pacific Rock Flower is the latest addition to this native-focused collection. Reminiscent of the original cult-favourite Pacific Rock Moss, this new 20 per cent concentrated fragrance, created by both Weber (as artistic director) and renowned Grasse-based perfumer Emilie Bouge, was designed with women in mind. “I’ve always had this frustration of women buying Pacific Rock Moss and then saying, ‘Oh my husband ended up stealing it,’” explains Weber. “The idea of creating something for women came from there.”

Goldfield & Banks Pacific Rock Moss Perfume

Pacific Rock Moss’ soothing aquatic salty notes remain, but there’s something distinctly new at play. That something is Australian Coastal Tea Tree, a white flower that grows native along the headlands and dunes of Australia’s expansive east coast. “Floral fragrances are very French and I’m not comfortable with [a lot of traditional] floral notes,” says Weber. “So we use a lot of herbs and aromatic plants [in Goldfield & Banks fragrances]. We don’t have a lot of garden-style flowers that smell pretty.” Bouge came up with new accords to give the fragrance its creamy aquatic nature. “She created this whole accord with coral flowers by adding creamy notes, and then mimosas and things that were more tropical,” says Weber. An ode to the coastal beauty for which Australia is renowned, Weber and Bouge celebrate the shoreline with notes of citrus, creamy cocowax and Australian sandalwood, for a scent that is sparkling and effervescent while also boasting long-lasting depth. “We were in Paris and Emilie printed out the formula, which perfumers do not normally do,” recalls Weber. ‘There’s more than 100 ingredients in that perfume,’ which is so many. We went through all these ingredients and you think, ‘Oh my gosh, there are so many naturals in it,’ and you can smell them.”

It’s the olfactory equivalent of an Australian beach in a bottle.

Elie Saab’s latest scent, Elixir Love, isn’t just a perfume – it’s a science-backed mood booster. Blending traditional perfumery with neuroscience, this fragrance is designed to spark pleasure and emotion with every spritz.

As Baz Luhrmann once said, “All you need is love.” And in his wild, romantic worlds, love is always the driving force. It’s messy, powerful, and unforgettable – just like the feeling this fragrance sets out to capture. Whether you’re falling in, falling out, or just dreaming of it, Elixir Love isn’t just a scent – it’s a state of mind.

Elie Saab Love Elixir EDP, 100ml, $262
Elie Saab Love Elixir EDP, 100ml, $262

The Formula

Created by perfume duo Aurélien Guichard and Leonardo Lucheze, this is a hypnotic blend that pushes the boundaries and makes a statement. A new iteration of the original Elixir EDP from Elie Saab, Elixir Love features newly added notes of red rose and rose essence, while white neroli, blended with woody notes, jasmine and ambroxan take it into daringly irresistible territory.

“We pushed the gourmand-ambery facets, and daredan overdose of praline,” explains Guichard. “We decreased the orris facet and added an addictive red rose, rounded with a cherry accord.” Elixir Love is pitched at a free-spirited woman who is not afraid to turn heads. It’s also the type of scent you reach for when you want to head out and really feel alive. “Elixir Love is a concentrate of sensuality and femininity,” says Lucheze. “It’s a femme fatale who does not go unnoticed.”

The Inspiration

On the drawing board, the two creatives were inspired by Eastern and Western couture. “Fluid, light fabrics that are nonetheless remarkably powerful,” says Guichard. “I wanted us to re-create this breathtaking effect … while working with ingredients of Eastern origin in a universal way for this new, even more bewitching love potion.” The colour red also guided their work. “[The bottle is] captivating, blazing, carnal: a red rose with metallic facets, like a dress encrusted with embroidery and shiny precious stones,” explains Lucheze. Just like that feeling of real love after many so-so encounters, this new iteration is much more: more intoxicating, more enticing, more exhilarating. “For this intense version of Elixir Elie Saab we imagined an even richer, thicker note, an extraordinary opulence,” explains Guichard.

The Addition Of Neuroscience

But perhaps what makes this fragrance so special is its inclusion of neuroscience. Within its formula there is a secret accord that works to trigger pleasure. Called the “love accord”, this piece of science trickery is not just marketing. The result of research and development conducted by fragrance innovators Takasago, in Japan, this exclusive accord for the house of Elie Saab is designed to blur the senses and inspire feelings of pleasure by stimulating the blood flow in the brain – much like that rush of falling in love.

Love may be blind, but now – at least – it has a scent.

If you don’t know Angèle right now, you will soon. Putting out anthems that speak to her mind, Belgian singer-songwriter Angèle is something of a phenomenon.

Appointed Beauty and Fashion Ambassador of the House in 2020, Angèle has been the face of many of Chanel campaigns. She also wore fashion from the Chanel archives for her “Twenty Five” world tour in 2022 and 2023, where the pop star was able to literally raid Chanel’s archives. And now she’s partnering with the House for its biggest fragrance launch of 2025.

This month Angèle is partnering with Chanel Beauty for the launch of Chanel CHANCE Eau Splendide, the latest iteration of the brand’s much-loved Chance fragrance collection, first created by House perfumer Olivier Polge in 2003.

Beauty and Fashion Ambassador for CHANEL, Angèle is the new ambassador for Chanel Chance Eau Splendide, created by perfumer Olivier Polge.

Rising to fame after she self-released her first album Brol in 2018, the 29-year-old star is now a household name in Europe and a major player on the French music scene.

Having collaborated with both Dua Lipa and rapper Damso, as well as performed alongside Phoenix in a standout performance for closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, this new venture with Chanel has seen the creative not just front the campaign but also write a single. A Little More is now the soundtrack to the campaign film, directed by Amelie director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It depicts Angèle wandering into a fairground hall of mirrors which beckons her to take her chance.

A fresh and lively fragrance, Chance Eau Splendide is a fruity floral blend of raspberry accord, violet and a floral heart of rose geranium (partly grown in the Chanel fields in Grasse). The dry-down gives sumptuous musk, woody notes and powdery iris notes which last a long time and feels new for the Chance collection, which includes the original floral, Chance Eau De Parfum, and its newer recruits, Chance Eau Tendre and fresh green noted scent Chance Eau Fraiche. Each has its own colour, so it was important for Polge to find a new identity for Eau Splendide.

“It was important that Chance Eau Splendide also had its own territory,” says Polge. “After completing the formula, we smelt the fragrance. Purple came to mind naturally, almost instinctively. It conveys the fresh and fruity impression of the raspberry Accord, and also expresses the more mysterious and complex floral aspect of the fragrance.”

Dynamic, free-spirited and energetic, Angèle mirrors the sentiment of the fragrance perfectly. Daring you to be bold and take a chance, his is a scent that almost guarantees you’ll feel more positive once you’ve spritzed it on.

Why Creed’s New Eladaria Fragrance Is Worth The Investment https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/creed-eladaria-luxury-rose-fragrance-autumn-2025/ Fri, 11 Apr 2025 10:23:08 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1278022 There's a new scent in the house

The post Why Creed’s New Eladaria Fragrance Is Worth The Investment appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
There’s fragrance, and then there’s the House of Creed. The luxury French fragrance house is dedicated to the creation of artisan fragrances for both men and women. For Autumn 2025, they’ve dreamt up Eladaria, a modern rose fragrance that captures nature awakening at first light. For many (especially if you’re in the 5am Club), it’s the most promising moment of the day, when anything feels possible.

“We don’t need people who make 20 perfumes in a year,” Erwin Creed, the seventh-generation heir of the Creed family, has said of the house’s niche approach to fragrance. Since 1760, when Creed began as tailors for the English Court before expanding into haute parfumerie, the house has prioritised quality over quantity. Eladaria is no different.

Eladaria embodies this philosophy as a true “Millésime” perfume – a term borrowed from French winemaking denoting exceptional quality. Each bottle represents artisanal craftsmanship using premium ingredients that capture a moment in time.

Creed’s New Eladaria Fragrance, 30ml, $299. Image: Courtesy of Creed

Garden in a bottle

Eladaria opens with bright mandarin and bergamot splashed with pink pepper – like first sunlight cutting through morning mist. The effect is immediately refreshing and attention-grabbing.

At its heart lies Creed’s signature innovation: a trilogy of roses (Centifolia, Damascena, and a soft rose accord) that bloom alongside peony and lily of the valley. Together they create a plush, petal-soft effect that feels both classic and unexpected.

Yet, what really sets Eladaria apart is its sophisticated base. Cashmere wood, vanilla, ambroxan, and musk provide a warm foundation that transforms the typically cool character of rose, giving it a subtle metallic edge that feels distinctly modern.

Versatile luxury

Eladaria bridges worlds effortlessly. Its citrus brightness makes it appropriate for daytime wear, while the warm wood and musk base creates enough depth for evening occasions.

Eladaria stands out by neither overwhelming nor underwhelming – it makes its presence known with quiet confidence rather than shouting for attention. The fragrance evolves on skin throughout the day, revealing different facets as the day unfolds.

Ultimately, Eladaria succeeds where many modern fragrances fail: it’s sophisticated without stuffiness, feminine without frilliness, and luxurious without ostentation.

The best kept secret of the perfume world

The House of Creed has long been described as a “best-kept secret of the perfume world”, which feels ironic given it’s hardly a secret. From monarchs to Hollywood icons, Creed’s scents have been spritzed by some of the world’s most famous people.

Take ‘Spring Flower’, the floral scent specifically crafted for Audrey Hepburn. Its appeal is enduring – Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow are now known to wear the scent. And when Grace Kelly prepared to become Princess of Monaco, she received the delicate ‘Fleurissimo’ as her wedding fragrance.

Men have been charmed too. While once the fragrances were worn by Winston Churchill and Frank Sinatra, they’re now said to be loved by celebrities such as David Beckham and Hugh Grant.

With Eladaria, the House of Creed has once again shown us why it remains the benchmark for luxury perfumery after more than 250 years.

Solid perfumes have become somewhat of the new-fashioned in the fragrance world. They’re cropping up everywhere and with good reason – they boast serious staying power. Like day-to-night-on-a-humid-day staying power. A solution to the fragrance industry woes.

The impressive formula compositions melt into the skin for longer lasting, potency without being overly harsh or stripping. They’re ideal for sensitive skin types. sustainable, easy to portable and carry-on friendly and sustainable.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise Dior Beauty are at the forefront with their elevated solid perfume offerings. The revered fashion house, have expanded their cult Miss Dior range with a trio of highly concentrated solid perfumes. Aptly named Miss Dior Mini Miss the collection reinvents three of their iconic fragrances: Miss Dior Parfum, Miss Dior Eau De Perfume and Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet. They’re sold as solid-refills.

The solid refills are encased in a couture woven case (that’s jaw-droppingly chic). The Limited-Edition Mini Miss Runway case serves a hint of logomania while capturing the elegant and joyful spirit of Miss Dior. Inspired by Dior couture and adorned with the graphic logo of the “Miss Dior” ready-to-wear line launched in 1967. The limited edition design is available in three colourways: pink, blue and beige. It’s shape mimics that of a lipstick; it’s compact, portable and eye-catching. The ultimate on-the-go accessory.

What Are Solid Perfumes Made Of?

Solid perfumes are a blend of a fragrance or essential oil stabilised with a solid wax base. Typical wax bases are comprised of beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil or jojoba oil. These particular formulas from Dior are composed of 81 per cdent natural-origin ingredients and enriched with rose wax as the base.

Benefits of Dior’s Mini Miss Solid Perfume

 • Alcohol-free and composed of 81 per cent natural-origin ingredients
 • Enriched with skin-loving ingredients like rose wax to moisturise
 • Melt-to-touch formula glides onto the skin effortlessly without any sticky residue
 • Long-lasting scent payoff
 • The same core Miss Dior scents (Miss Dior Parfum, Miss Dior Eau De Perfume and Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet) that you know and love

Where should you apply solid perfume?

For a powerful scent that lingers and lasts, Dior recommends applying the waxy balm directly on pulse points; the neck, décolleté and wrists. Try layering the solid perfume formula with a spritz of the corresponding liquid scent for boosted potency.

Don’t: Rub your wrists together after applying the perfume. This is a common misconception, it can often break down the fragrance and cause it to fade faster. Lightly tapping the Dior Mini Miss solid perfume into the skin will increase staying power.

Set in the Gold Coast hinterland, Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat almost throbs with sub-tropical vegetation, holding a special sort of magic. As marie claire drives through the retreat’s gates to shoot the incredible Robyn Lawley, the face of beauty brand INIKA Organic, a sense of deep and restorative calm washes over us.

The setting is entirely appropriate. Gwinganna, a sanctuary known for welcoming urbanities ready for a respite, is a place of change. A destination where people can ditch bad habits, learn healthier ways of living and give themselves a place to hit the reset button. It’s fitting, then, that we’re here. Because a while ago Lawley, too, hit reset on her life. It’s also what drove her to form a partnership with INIKA Organic, a certified vegan and organic makeup and skincare brand.

“I went vegan over six years ago for health reasons,” she tells marie claire while at the retreat. “I was shocked when I found out pretty much every makeup and facial product has animal [related ingredients] in them.” INIKA, which drills down on ingredients to get rid of formulation fillers and chemicals without losing out on performance, was a natural fit.
“I wanted to follow the philosophy of veganism and INIKA’s products are vegan and cruelty-free and they’re also halal. It’s the standard that I believe in, so I wanted to be the brand ambassador.”

Lawley uses both the skincare and mineral-based makeup in the range, and counts the Phytofuse Renew Night Cream and Adaptogenic Cleansing Oil as regulars in her daily routine. “I’ve been in this industry a long time; I’ve tried every product you can imagine,” she says.
“I wouldn’t use a product if it didn’t work.” The brand has just released a new serum foundation that Lawley has quickly taken to. “It’s groundbreaking – there’s nothing like it,” she says. “It’s organic and you literally use a few drops and your face is fully covered.” Lawley’s move to veganism was brought on by a severe case of lupus, leading to a stroke that could have ended her life.

“Veganism saved my life. It put my very aggressive lupus into remission.”

The episode forced the statuesque beauty to look closely at how she fuels her body. What she found out would drastically change how she lived. “My whole being has changed,” she says.

“Veganism saved my life. It put my very aggressive lupus into remission.” Lupus, an autoimmune disease that can affect joints, skin, blood and organs such as kidneys, heart and lungs, was debilitating, says Lawley. “I had years of injections and treatments from doctors, but it was just a bandaid. It’s not the cure. Then a doctor named Dr Brooke Goldner contacted me, saying she could help cure my lupus.”

Sceptical at first, Lawley eventually went on the program, which involved a “huge” amount of green cruciferous vegetables and omega-3s, such as flax and chia seeds, to help stop the inflammation. “Your body can’t produce omega-3 naturally. The only way to get omega-3 is to eat it,” says Lawley, who consumes it in daily smoothies to keep her lupus at bay. Her other saviour is staying active. “I love exercise,” says the model, who demonstrated her impressive flexibility and strength on set with backbends and yoga poses. “

Yoga is everything to me. It’s so amazing because it’s so buildable. I can do it anywhere; I don’t need a gym, I don’t need trainers. I can literally do it right here. And I can get better; there’s so much growth.” Being fit and flexible is obviously also an advantage for her line of work. “If you want the ability to use your body, you have to stretch.”

For the past five years, Australian-born Lawley has lived in upstate New York with her partner and their nine-year-old daughter, Ripley. She says being surrounded by forest soothes her – “I’m a bit of a tree person” – and she wouldn’t consider a move back to the city. “We did LA for a bit and then back to New York. My daughter has had such a beautiful upbringing because she’s spent it in nature.” That is perhaps why Lawley has loved the setting at Gwinganna so much.

The shoot for marie claire meanders through the tree-dense compound, which, despite the rain, has a nurturing and genuine sense of healing in its energy. It’s Lawley’s first time at the retreat and she plans to return. “The view is so beautiful and I love just walking around with all the trees,” she says. “My room is incredible and I love the steam room in the spa; I kept going back in there because it was just amazing.”

With decades of modelling under her belt, Lawley is the consummate professional. Has she changed over the years? “I feel very confident in my size now,” says the 188cm-tall (6ft 2in) beauty. “Now, more than I did when I was in my twenties. I feel more defined by what my body can do.”

Age has changed her too. “You get to your mid-30s and you’re like, I just don’t really care about so much about what people in the fashion world think,” says Lawley. “It can eat you alive.” Instead, the model and mother is branching out and focusing on other things. “I’m trying to have a more relaxed philosophy,” she adds. “I want to help the environment and I want to help the animals more. Those are my goals now.”

We’re offering TWO lucky winners the chance to indulge in a 7-night Ultimate Wellness Retreat at Gwinganna and receive $1,000 worth of exquisite INIKA Organic products. Enter the competition here.

FixBiome Founder Jasmine Chilcott On Starting A Beauty Brand https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/body/fixbiome-founder-jasmine-chilcott/ Fri, 03 Jan 2025 05:44:10 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1271587 "We’re learning the gut’s connections to mental health, skin and major diseases"

The post FixBiome Founder Jasmine Chilcott On Starting A Beauty Brand appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Solution-based supplement brand FixBIOME prides itself on having an education-first platform and a natural approach to gut health. It’s a vision the brand‘s founder, Jasmine Chilcott, has carried with her since its inception and a major reason behind its success.

We sat down with Jasmin to chat about the brand from humble beginnings to unexpected learning curves.

The Inspiration

“FixBIOME came from my personal struggle with gut health, which impacted everything from my skin and hair to energy and mood. Despite having access to expert advice (my family’s background is in medicine) I faced many misdiagnoses and tried lots of treatments that simply didn’t work. I set out to learn why and [then see] how I could use what I had learnt to create something different. I was essentially just trying to solve my own problem,” Jasmine tells us.

Core Values

“Our community remains at the heart of our brand and is why we do what we do. FixBIOME started as an education platform, hoping to empower individuals with top research and raise awareness of gut health. We developed the FixBIOME system with doctors, naturopaths and formulation experts based on new research on natural ingredients for gut health. We strive to make a difference.”

Target Market

“Our customer is twofold. The complete FixBIOME gut health course is designed for people with existing gut issues. That might look like bloating, irregular bowel movements, food intolerances, skin issues, weight issues or low energy and mood. The Gut Fix [capsules], which form part of the system, can be used alone by anyone looking to enhance overall gut health. Gut Fix supports daily digestive function and provides the intestinal cells and lining with what it needs to turn over, which happens every few days.”

fixbiome

Tailored Approach

“Standard tablet manufacturing practices are set up for absorption into the blood. But with the gut, we want the supplement to stay in there and stand up against things like stomach acid. So we designed our supplements specifically for this.”

Learning Curves

“At one point early on, an entire product run had half the capsules burst. This was due to active ingredients that were too strong and dissolved the capsules. Learning to manage a supply chain with so many ingredients and strict requirements on the type of quality we expect has also been challenging.”

Pinch-Me Moment

“Our system has sold out five times since its launch, and we are the only product in the market with ingredients endorsed by The Gut Foundation*, Australia’s leading authority on gut health.”

New Findings

“One perk I’ve enjoyed is being at the forefront of research. We’re learning the gut’s connections to mental health, skin and major diseases, and it only continues to grow stronger. Early research revealed the gut could be playing a role in the development of endometriosis. This is something we’ve also observed with our own customers, who are experiencing period-related concerns and gut issues. I hope to explore this relationship further.”

It’s Time To Ban The Tan. Why Sun Tanning Is Off Our It-List https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/sun-tanning-myths/ Fri, 20 Dec 2024 00:32:50 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1236165 In: Staying in the shade. Out: Baking in the sun.

The post It’s Time To Ban The Tan. Why Sun Tanning Is Off Our It-List appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
In Australia, sporting a sun tan could be considered a beauty ‘ideal’. Culturally, our nation’s identity is inextricable from our beachy behaviours and, at some point, this leaked into our beauty standards.

While an obsession with a sun tan could be critiqued on multiple fronts, today we’re talking about a pretty important one: safety.

Given our nation’s alarming rates of skin cancer, it’s beyond imagining why anyone would consider lounging in the sun as a good idea.

Recent research conducted by Cancer Council and the Australian Government found Australians continue to operate under a number of major misconceptions around sun tanning and its perceived aesthetic appeal. For instance, it found 1 in 3 young Australians (aged 18-30) think sun tanning is fine for people of their age, and that most 18-30 year-olds ‘desire a suntan’.

Here, we took some of the opinions you might have heard from your friends, and did a little correcting of our own…

Image: Getty

Your Natural Skin Tone Is Your Healthiest Skin Tone

Contrary to popular belief, a suntan is not a sign of good health. In fact, it’s an indication of sun damage.

UV damage is the single biggest factor in determining the appearance and health of your skin.

Australia has the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. Sun protection, including wearing SPF50+, a broad-brimmed hat, sunglasses, protective clothing and staying in the shade, should be applied especially when the UV index is 3 or above — which, in Australia, is most of the year.

Embrace Your Natural Skin Tone

Even if you find yourself thinking you need a tan (you don’t), perhaps it’s not your natural skin tone that’s the problem. Instead, it could be time to review your colour palette. TikTok is obsessed with ‘colour analysis’ and the act of choosing your wardrobe around the colours which look best with your natural features and skin tone.

Experts in the field of colour analysis will encourage you to pick clothes that embrace your natural features and skin tone — not alter your appearance to fit your clothes.

Having A Sun Tan Is Not More Desirable

If you find yourself getting sucked into the belief that a sun tan equals beauty, it could be time to do a good purge of your social media feeds and diversify who you follow. There are plenty of body positive, sun safe influencers to add to your feed.

Avoid falling into the traps of cultural myths around beauty standards and instead embrace (and care for!) your natural features and skin tone.

As we know: suntanned skin is sun damaged skin. UV radiation accelerates the ageing process and also puts us at risk of cancer. You can feel confident and healthy in the skin you’re in, without a suntan. So, before you head out into the sun in the name of beauty, remind yourself of the risks of sun tanning and maybe find some shade instead.

Brought to you by Cancer Council and Australian Government.

Jimmy Choo’s New Scent Is Intoxicatingly Good https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/jimmy-choo-i-want-choo-fragrance/ Thu, 05 Dec 2024 04:45:30 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1268996 It's the perfect adjunct to a night out

The post Jimmy Choo’s New Scent Is Intoxicatingly Good appeared first on marie claire.

“With no man in sight, I decided to rescue my ankles from a life of boredom by purchasing too many pairs of Jimmy Choo shoes.”

Carrie Bradshaw

In Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw, was so in love with her Choos that her many pairs were almost like guest stars in the 94 episodes of the hit HBO show.

Oh, how we loved watching Carrie wearing pair after glorious pair of heels as she walked up and down her famed Manhattan brownstone steps and into the intoxicating streets of New York City.

Who could forget when Carrie lost a prized Jimmy Choo slingback in her dash to the last Staten Island ferry back to Manhattan? Her “I lost my Choo!” lament is now viral on TikTok.

But our obsession doesn’t end with the small screen (or the large screen for that matter – a Jimmy Choo store was featured in The Valet with Samara Weaving in 2022). Since the shoe brand’s launch in 1996, Jimmy Choo has been a red-carpet staple – and has had more than a few star moments.

There were Cate Blanchett’s custom-made shoes that were handdyed purple moments before her 1999 red-carpet appearance for her first Best Actress Oscar nomination. Fast-forward to 2017, and a 21-yearold Kendall Jenner famously teamed her Jimmy Choos with socks at the Cannes Film Festival. And there have been many a standout gala moment where Catherine, Princess of Wales has worn the famed footwear (often with a coordinating clutch) in notable cities, including at her son Prince Louis’ christening at Kensington Palace and at the BAFTAs.

The city setting is very much part of the brand’s DNA. In fact, Jimmy Choo is so synonymous with cities, it’s no surprise its latest iteration of the fragrance I Want Choo is also inspired by a city – this time, the historied streets of London after dark.

Confident in its femininity, this seductive scent, created by master perfumer duo Marie Salamagne and Amandine Clerc-Marie, packs plenty of statement – while also feeling as stylish as the women who wear the shoes. The third iteration of this perfume, I Want Choo Le Parfum’s formulation also reflects the many facets of a thriving city where anything can happen – and simultaneously conjures up an empowered stomping of the pavement after dark.

Notes of pear, golden gardenia and blackberry pop and fizz at the top of this fragrance, feeding the anticipation and excitement of a night ahead. While the scent’s creamy heart of jasmine, patchouli and ambrette evoke that uplifting feeling of being with those you love. The base meanwhile, which gives off notes of moss, amber, sandalwood and praline, smells like the heady end to an evening to remember.

Jimmy Choo I Want Choo Le Parfum EDP, 100ml, $241 at Jimmy Choo

“It’s as mysterious and unique as the golden gardenia and the jasmine flower,” says Salamagne. “It offers the woman who wears it a sensual and enigmatic signature.” “Housed in a gold, sculptural glass bottle with a hammered ring around its neck, the fragrance is certainly an ode to the empowered sense of glamour the brand is known for. “It’s a fragrance as glamorous as it is irresistible,” says Clerc-Marie. “This new scent is a radiant, intoxicating fragrance. It’s a fragrant gesture to shine, a burst of sensuality in the night.”

As alluring and addictive as the world’s best cities, this is the scent you will reach for before you step out – in Jimmy Choo shoes, of course – and take on whatever the city has to offer.

The post Discover The Captivating Scent That’s Stealing The Spotlight In Luxury Perfume appeared first on marie claire.

Looking to switch up your signature scent? Meet Marie no. 27 by The Modern Siren—a fragrance that’s less about following trends and more about celebrating the wild, natural beauty of Tasmania.

If you’ve ever dreamt of being transported to an untouched landscape with every spritz, this perfume is about to become your new obsession.

The Fragrance That Keeps You Guessing

Marie no. 27 starts strong with a hit of fresh bergamot and green leaves, giving you that just-after-the-rain feeling, where everything smells clean and lush. But don’t be fooled by its light opening—this scent quickly evolves into something much deeper.

Imagine a burst of wild roses, Boronia and violet, blending with a hint of honey for warmth. It’s a bit like wandering through a blooming garden, but with a twist of mystery that keeps you guessing.

Marie no. 27 by The Modern Siren is crafted in Tasmania with locally sourced botanicals.

The real magic, though, lies in the dry down. As the floral notes soften, you’ll notice a spicy, woody finish that’s downright addictive. Tasmanian Pepperberry (yes, it’s a thing) adds a subtle kick, while vanilla, Tonka bean, and golden amber wrap it all up in a cosy, sensual warmth. It’s like nature and luxury teamed up to create something completely unexpected.

Small-Batch Scents

What really sets The Modern Siren apart is the story behind the scent. It’s not just another pretty bottle on the shelf. Each fragrance is crafted in small batches using locally-sourced Tasmanian botanicals, which means you’re getting something truly special and sustainable.

For those of us who love a bit of eco-conscious luxury, this perfume ticks all the boxes. And let’s be real—it feels good to support a brand that’s as focused on sustainability as it is on creating beautiful things.

Marie no. 27 Starts with floral notes, deepens to woody and ends with a sweet, spicy finish.

But back to Marie no. 27—it’s not for everyone, and that’s exactly the point. It’s for the woman who wants something more than just a pleasant scent. If you’re someone who likes your perfume to tell a story, to evolve throughout the day and surprise you with its layers, this one’s got your name written all over it.

There’s something undeniably cool about wearing a fragrance that feels personal, like it was made just for you.

Marie no. 27 is not for everyone, and that’s exactly the point.

Ready to shake up your scent-drobe?

Chanel has announced Margot Robbie will be the new face of their iconic Chanel N°5 fragrance. The Barbie star has been an ambassador for the French maison for years, and has previously fronted campaigns for the Chanel Gabrielle perfume.

“I think Chanel N°5 is one of the most iconic fragrances in the world. It’s incredible to be a part of it. There’s such an impressive lineage of women who’ve been associated with the fragrance over the years. I am very honoured to be joining that long list of incredible talents,” Robbie said of her appointment.

Margot is not the first Australian actress to be the face of Chanel N°5, with Nicole Kidman famously appearing in the campaign directed by Baz Luhrmann. Other actresses to front the iconic perfume include Marion Cotillard and Catherine Deneuve.

Upon announcing Robbie as the face of Chanel N°5, the luxury house celebrated her role as an actress and a producer, “finding and championing female stories”.

“An Academy Award nominated actress and a visionary producer, Margot Robbie is a woman who has decided to create the conditions for her own accomplishments, always with the desire to tell stories carried by strong female figures in mind,” the statement said. “Her career as an actress and producer is impressive, her aura is irresistible, her charisma, both powerful and serene, resonates in every way with the unique character of the iconic N°5.”

Margot’s Chanel N°5 campaign will be released in October.

These 7 Solar Perfumes Are Sunshine In A Bottle https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/solar-perfumes-australia/ Tue, 10 Sep 2024 02:46:45 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1259328 This fragrance trend is perfect for golden hour

The post These 7 Solar Perfumes Are Sunshine In A Bottle appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
In Little Women, Louisa May Alcott observes, “Some people seem to get all the sunshine, and some all the shadow.” Fragrance lovers are choosing sunshine with a zest for solar perfume.

Solar perfume isn’t an official fragrance category, but it’s a term that’s been cropping up on TikTok thanks to a swathe of sunny new launches. Given there’s rarely anything truly new in beauty (or under the sun), so solar fragrances are developing a bit of a buzz.

Like gourmand perfumes, solar fragrances feature sweet, warm notes. While we love a traditional tasty gourmand when we’re curling up in winter, solar fragrances are a perfect variation on the theme come summer.

TikTok fragrance expert @nearlynoseblind describes the solar fragrance as a “sheer, sunny, warm floral” with the presence of a coconut note mingled with citrus notes like bergamot and mandarin; and white florals like jasmine, ylang-ylang and frangipani. Many of them will “warm up”, starting with a burst of floral citrus before drying down into earthy woods and vanilla notes.

In addition to being warm and sweet, the solar fragrance has a certain radiant luxury. It’s a silky sunniness goes beyond the sparkling citruses and florals we usually associate with summer. We can imagine guests of the White Lotus Hotel doused in these opulent blends while toting cocktails and Bottega Veneta bags.

Ultimately, a solar fragrance should radiate warmth, unfurling on the skin like a flower opening to the sun. And, with the weather heating up, it’s the perfect time to slip on a summer dress, throw on some heels and spritz on some sunshine.

We’ve rounded up our favourite sunny scents for spring and summer.

2024’s top solar perfumes

 1. DedCool Aura Fragrance, $149.00, Mecca (here’s why)
 2. Vilhelm Parfumerie, Sparkling Jo, $452.00 Mecca (here’s why)
 3. 27 87 Hamaca Eau de Parfum, $297.00, Amazon (here’s why)

As heady as a summer sunset.

from $297.00 at Amazon

This intriguing fragrance will make you feel like you’re eating a sweet treat on the beach. Top notes of seawater and coconut are underscored by vanilla and tonka bean. Deliciously sweet, the inclusion of sandalwood stops it from being too saccharine. A must for gourmand lovers.

Tom Ford Soleil Blanc

04

Tom Ford, Soleil Blanc

from $295-$570.00 at Myer

Tom Ford’s sensual Soleil Blanc has been compared to sex on the beach wearing sunscreen (as you should). The perfume’s creamy coconut and tonka bean notes mingle with spicy cardamon, pink pepper, and ylang-ylang, giving it its distinctive solar richness. Best worn with a silky camisole top and a mojito in hand.

Jo Malone London, Sunlit Cherimoya Cologne

05

Jo Malone London, Sunlit Cherimoya Cologne

from $180.00 at David Jones

Cherimoya is a unique fruit that conceals creamy white flesh beneath a bitter green rind; it is the keynote in this cologne, which perfectly balances bright-zestiness with the silky base notes we expect in a solar fragrance. It’s accompanied by juicy pear, spicey copaiba resin, and sweet tonka that will give you beachside vibes even if you’re on your morning commute.

Vyrao Sun Rae

06

Vyrao Sun Rae Eau de Parfum

from $ 199-$283.00 at Mecca

One of the freshest solar fragrances you’ll find, this very special perfume from Vyrao blends refreshing and earthy blends both turmeric leaf and turmeric root with lemon, bergamot and black pepper layered over amber and musk. There’s a brisk, uplifting grassiness to the scent – wearing it feels like soaking up the sunshine while picnicking.

Memo Tamarindo

07

Memo Tamarindo Eau De Parfum

from $460.00 at Myer

In Tamarindo, the lush sweetness of pineapple and peach sparkles with bergamot over a sweet, creamy base of jasmine, vanilla, patchouli and benzoin. It’s a soft, succulent scent with just enough juice.

What Is A Solar Perfume?

A solar perfume is a fragrance that captures the warmth and brightness of sunshine. Look for a blend of sweet and warm notes you’d find in a gourmand, with citruses, white florals, and coconut notes (typically, you’ll see a fruit note, followed by a white floral, then vanilla or caramel notes and a woody dry down). But solar fragrances are ultimately more of a feeling than a specific smell. They should radiate warmth and the feeling of a sultry, sun-drenched day.

How To Apply Perfume

Everyone has their own technique, but there are some common tips. To apply fragrance effectively, focus on your pulse points—like the wrists, neck, behind the ears, and inner elbows—where the warmth of your skin helps to diffuse the scent throughout the day. After applying, avoid rubbing the fragrance in, as this can break down the scent molecules and reduce its longevity.

To enhance the staying power of your perfume, start by moisturising your skin with a matching or unscented lotion. Hydrated skin holds fragrance better. You can also lightly mist your hair for a subtle scent trail.

Applying a particularly potent scent and feeling gun-shy? Spritz it before you, then step into it. It will settle in your hair and on your clothes. The result will be more subtle.

Uncover The Origins Behind Elie Saab’s Cult-Followed Le Parfum Fragrance https://www.marieclaire.com.au/beauty/elie-saab-le-parfum/ Fri, 06 Sep 2024 07:34:35 +0000 https://www.marieclaire.com.au/?p=1259718 The floral scent is described as the modern interpretation of voluptuousness

The post Uncover The Origins Behind Elie Saab’s Cult-Followed Le Parfum Fragrance appeared first on marie claire.

]]>
Created by master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian in 2011, Elie Saab’s Le Parfum has since gained a cult following and become an industry icon.

Fragrance and luxury expert, Nathalie Helloin Kamel, CEO of the fragrance division at Give Back Beauty, spoke to marie claire recently about Le Parfum and what this iconic scent represents to the house’s creative visionary, Elie Saab.

Tell us about the inspiration behind Le Parfum?

The inspiration came from Elie Saab himself. It pays tribute to one of his childhood memories: the scent of his garden in his hometown of Beirut, the Mediterranean city kissed by warmth and light, and animated by a sparkling nature full of scents. Orange blossom and jasmine represent the fabulous flowers, and the cedar from Lebanon represents the rigorous wood. The honey rose bridges these two worlds. As Saab says, “My childhood home was surrounded by orange blossom and when the wind blew it carried with it the essence of its notes.”

elie-saab-le-parfum

Elie Saab Le Parfum EDP, $262 at Myer

How were these memories reinterpreted by master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian?

He was guided by the notion of luminosity – the whiteness of the sun at its zenith. [The fragrance is] a modern interpretation of voluptuousness.

What does this scent evoke?

An “ode to light”, Le Parfum celebrates a bright, confident and radiant femininity. Entering the Elie Saab universe, [the wearer] will confidently walk, leaving an unforgettable trail of her presence. The fragrance is a symbol of her powerful radiance and elegance.

How has light, an element which is inherently visual, been interpreted into a fragrance?

Kurkdjian focused on solar flowers that could evoke either light or warmth and create a fragrance that diffuses and leaves a long trail. He explored the radiant orange blossom notes with a white Mediterranean flower bouquet and combined them with the addictive honey rose that evokes this ode to light. Patchouli and a woody accord bring strength to this fragrance, like a ray of sunlight crossing the sky.

Talk us through the bottle design. The perfume bottle was inspired by a beautiful crystal vide poche [key tray] that Saab had on his desk. Every evening around 5pm, the sun’s rays would pierce the object and be reflected throughout the room. It was this light that the bottle designer, Sylvie de France, transcribed in the creation of the bottle.

What does your role at Give Back Beauty entail?

It is an organisation that aims to put the universe of a creator into a perfume bottle: to hear, understand and translate the memories, values or philosophy of our creators in a fragrance. We are like a conductor: we start with the vision, then lead the team from the perfumer to the bottle designer to create, produce and deliver a fragrance that represents the DNA of the maison. Creating timeless fragrances is our ambition.

Tell us your best fragrance application tip?

Before I leave home, I generously spray my perfume all over my clothes and hair. And I always have a Le Parfum bottle in my bag, so I can reapply during the day or before a meeting.

Your advice on how we can find our perfect scent?

Just smell it and feel it!
