Was it ever real?

Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson didn’t just spark dating rumours during their recent press tour for The Naked Gun, they leaned into their seemingly blossoming love story, hard.

From Pamela putting lip balm on a puckering Liam during Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live to gushing over one another in interviews, the couple instantly won over fans.

But alas, new reports suggest it was all for show.

Sources with “direct knowledge” revealed to TMZ that Liam and Pamela’s love affair was a PR stunt “cooked up” by their respective teams.

They went on to allege that the non-couple didn’t see one another between filming being wrapped and the start of the press tour.

Somehow, we’re the ones who have ended up with broken hearts in all this, and it likely won’t be the last time.

Celebs Faking It For The Press Tour

There’s no denying we’re suckers for a co-stars turned lovers arc – something PR teams are clearly aware of.

Pamela and Liam aren’t the first co-stars committed to their chemistry and fed the narrative in order to help promote their film. Who could forget the undeniable connection between Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney while filming Anyone But You?

Their press tour faux-mance was so convincing, romance rumours still plague the actors almost two years on.

Then, of course, there was the impact it had on Powell’s relationship with Gigi Paris – ended mid press tour thanks to the overwhelming online speculation.

More recently, Zoë Kravitz and Austin Butler also sparked rumours thanks to their off-screen chemistry during their Caught Stealing press tour. Did it make us want to see the film exponentially more? Of course it did.

And therein lies the problem. Like a sweet-talking, walking red flag of a man, we know he’s full of shit and yet we fall for it every time. Sigh.
