Throw out your razor and cancel your next laser appointment. Kim Kardashian has officially declared that the bush is back.
Overnight, the Skim’s founder dropped a series of thong-style merkins. All of which have since sold out.
The drop follows a string of provocative product launches from Skims, including the nipple bra, piercing bra and sculpt face wrap.
The faux bush collection was then promoted via a retro game-show parody campaign that asks: “Does the carpet match the drapes?” Well, with 12 variations across a range of skin tones, hair colours and hair textures, the choice is yours. But it will set you back $70 a pair.
What Is A Merkin?
Dating back to the 15th century, merkins are essentially pubic wigs that were first used by sex workers and women who had shaved their pubic hair for hygiene or medical reasons.

Over time, they evolved into theatrical and cinematic props used for modesty during nude scenes. While traditionally, they were made from human hair, modern merkins are mostly synthetic.
When Did the Bush Go Out of Fashion?
The bush fell out of style in the late 1980s and early 1990s, as shifting beauty ideals began to equate hairlessness with desirability, youth and hygiene. The rise of Brazilian waxing marked a turning point, quickly spreading through fashion magazines, porn culture and television. By the 2000s, pop icons like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears embodied the era’s glossy, hyper-groomed aesthetic, while Sex and the City shamed the full bush. Smooth skin became synonymous with being “put together,” and the natural look was relegated to relic status — a reminder of the freer, fuzzier 1970s.
Is The Bush Back In Fashion
Less than a year ago, Maison Margiela turned heads at their spring/summer 2024 couture show. by sending models down the runway wearing faux pubic hair beneath sheer, Victorian-inspired gowns. Björk later wore one of the looks—merkin included—on the cover of Vogue Scandinavia.
Now, Skim’s is marketing the bush to the masses. But will it catch on? Well, as summer rolls around in the southern hemisphere, Aussies could be the first to find out. Bring on bikini season.
