If sailing still conjures images of crisp polos and languid afternoons on the Riviera, Tommy Hilfiger is here to turn up the speed – literally. For August 2025, the American brand launches the Tommy X U.S. SailGP Team capsule, a high-octane blend of prep and performance inspired by one of the fastest, most competitive water sports on the planet.
Part of a multi-year partnership naming Tommy Hilfiger the Official Lifestyle Apparel Partner of the U.S. SailGP Team, the collection channels the adrenaline of hydrofoiling F50 catamarans – capable of hitting 100 km/h – into pieces designed to look as sharp on deck as they do on city streets. “SailGP is high-stakes and high-speed,” says Tommy Hilfiger. “It’s inspiring a new generation, and we’re proud to work with Mike Buckley and the U.S. SailGP Team as they lead this charge.”
For Buckley, the team’s CEO and co-owner, the match was obvious: “Tommy is legendary and has a sixth sense for partnering with sports on the rise. He immediately saw the potential of SailGP as more than just a sport, but as a cultural movement.”

From Deck To Downtown
The capsule leans heavily into Tommy Hilfiger’s nautical heritage – the brand’s flag logo is, after all, inspired by maritime signal flags – but with a performance twist. Hero pieces include a colour-blocked sailing jacket in a three-layer, water-resistant fabric; a piqué performance polo with sweat-wicking and UV protection; and a ripstop windbreaker lined in breathable mesh. For off-duty moments, heavyweight hoodies, graphic tees and a cosy colour-blocked sweater keep the race-ready aesthetic firmly in the lifestyle lane.
In true Tommy fashion, the palette sticks to the signature red, white and blue, giving the collection an unmistakable identity whether worn in Saint-Tropez, Sydney or on a blustery Tuesday in Soho.

A Legacy At Sea
This isn’t Tommy Hilfiger’s first lap around the regatta. Sailing has been in the brand’s bloodstream since 1985, when the open water inspired its now-iconic logo. In the early ’90s, the label launched its first Sailing Gear line, went on to sponsor solo sailor Brad Van Liew in a round-the-world race, and notched back-to-back wins at the Volvo Extreme 40 Grand Prix in 2005 and 2006.
The SailGP partnership extends that legacy into the sport’s modern era — one that’s faster, younger, and far more global. Across the 2025 Rolex SailGP Championship season, the U.S. team will compete in identical boats against 11 other nations in iconic locations including New York and Saint-Tropez, all while wearing Tommy Hilfiger gear.
Where To Find It
The Tommy X U.S. SailGP Team capsule is available now on tommy.com, in Tommy Hilfiger stores worldwide, and through select wholesale partners. Expect the pieces to appeal to more than just sailing enthusiasts – with their mix of technical credibility and street-ready style, they’re built for anyone who likes their prep served with a side of performance.
Or, as Hilfiger himself might put it, for anyone ready to take the classic American look… and let it fly.
